APOCALYPSE MEME The end of the world is here. Are you ready or are you going to kick the bucket? Maybe you've been prepared for the apocalypse for ages or you're blissfully unaware. You can play it straight or for comedy (think Shaun of the Dead), but please be aware that there's likely to be triggering content within so consider content warnings!

TIMELINE 1. BEGINNING Things have only just begun. Can you get ahead of the problem or are things just going to go to shit? 2. MIDDLE Things HAVE gone to shit. You're right in the middle of things and there's no end in sight. You have to do your best just to get to tomorrow. 3. END Things are finally winding down (or amping up getting ready to wind down). You're in preparations for the final battle, you're killing off the last few zombies, you're living your life. 4. REBUILD/DESPAIR Things are OVER. Either you won or you lost, time to rebuild or go down in your bunker and cry. Hold onto your asses, folks. SCENARIOS 1. MONSTERS/KAIJU Think Godzilla or Pacific Rim. There are monsters, huge ones, and you gotta go through some shit to keep them from killing everything and busting up that last Dunkin Donuts you go to every Thursday with the cute girl working the counter. This is an outrage!! 2. ZOMBIES You know the drill. Whether fast or slow, virus or reanimated, airborne or fluid-borne, biting or eating: your favorite thing, zombies. Remember to aim for the head. 3. ALIENS Visitors from space! ... Except they're killing all of you! Does anyone you know have a cold? Send them to the front lines. 4. WAR Everything's gone to hell. It's going to become a nuclear winter out there if someone doesn't stop the tide of this war. History won't be written by the victors because there won't BE any. 5. "UTOPIA" Everyone is happy, right? Things are so much better now that we don't have any emotions, right? When we started culling populations to keep enough supplies for everyone, right? 6. ROBOTS YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELVES. YIKES. Skynet is a thing, everything is terrible, you're gonna get owned by a Reaper, whatever. Take 'em out, cowboy. 7. DISEASE You're not turning into rabid monsters, but people are dying off at alarming rates. What's causing it? Is there a cure? Is anyone immune? Figure it out, boyo. 8. MISC Anything left over!! Killer tomatoes? World taken over by talking dogs in exoskeletons? Whatever man, we're not the cops. Have fun. As always, these are just suggestions. Make up anything you want, as long as you're having fun!

{ Interested in basically all possible scenarios (primarily monsters, war, or zombies) as Valryn is from a high fantasy setting, only uninterested in "utopia" or "robots." Valryn would ideally acquire some sort of burnt-out, overpicked fortress of some kind (just don't ask him how he got it!) and would only be inclined to let outsiders in if it benefited him. However, if building an alliance with people was possible, he would certainly be working on that, assembling some sort of militia, anything towards ensuring survival. Otherwise, being drow, he is supremely skilled at hiding in the dark, so cave/swamp/general dark naturally occurring places-dwelling is very likely for him.

He is like all drow and quite aggressive and suspicious of people (notice the word 'people,' not just 'strangers') so being forced to cooperate for self-preservation would be easily a facet to the plot. However he is looking for prestige and reputation (either good or bad; both compliment his interests) so success in survival and rebuilding to increase the presence of drow on the surface would likely be his end goal. }

[ The world has gone quiet in 2024. Cities have been ravaged, torn down to the ground. What few survivors are left are scattered, arranged in sparse mockeries of civilization. Central City is a wasteland.

And yet, STAR Labs remains. A last bastion of hope, searching for answers in the multiverse. One man, or what's left of him, hoping against hope that there's someone out there, who can help. ]

[Things just kept escalating, in ways none would've anticipated. Or maybe they should have. After all, to the minds of those that lived centuries beforehand, what would the cutting-edge weapons of their descendants seem like but magic? So it made a kind of sense things would go in reverse. When magic was revealed to be a reality an optimist might assume this would bring a sense of peace to the world. People across races and cultures coming together in the childlike wonder and possibility this brought to them all.

Instead they found a way to weaponize it.

At first Shaw did what he always did. He shrugged and went along, upping his game to keep pace with the times. He learned how to use the new devices. He stole and sold the dangerous, powerful new objects people were asking for. He didn't let any of it bother him. He didn't think about the bigger picture.

But soon that was no longer a possibility. The magical arms race escalated out of control until it set off the worst possible outcome: World War Three. Countries sending armies of sorcerer-soldiers, guided spells of destruction, and blood-thirsty mystical creatures down upon one another. North America was overrun. Germany went dark. Japan and China were at each other's throats. Australia...well no one knew; they lost contact with Australia almost a year ago, and everyone was too afraid to go look and find out what happened.

Around the time France teamed with Russia in desperation, and there were reports of leprechauns littering nuclear grenades across the Irish countryside, the British government tracked Shaw down. They needed men and women like him: who had skills, experience and already knew how to lead. The deal was straightforward: get back into service, and every criminal act he'd ever done would be wiped clean from his record after it was all over. Assuming, of course, there was anything left.

Shaw had never been a patriot, but it was good an option as any. How things were building he'd been increasingly run the risk of getting backed into a corner. If he was going to go he wanted to be in the thick of the fight. So, SSA Major Owen Shaw was back. He had a team of soldiers at his command, he had weapons and resources. He also had an intriguing ace up his sleeve...to join his team, the government had somehow managed to convince one of the so-called "Guardians", Jack Frost.

He wasn't sure how he entirely felt about this development, to be honest. A few missions in together, and he and the magical being were still feeling each other out.]

[There's those horror movies where someone wakes from a coma and the whole world's gone to hell. Civilization crumbling and they're left clawing for answers as they desperately stumble around and struggle to survive.

Shaw almost wishes that happened. It would've been easier to handle.

Instead he awoke to an eerie world where everything was clean to the point of being sterile, ordered and bright in surreal fashion, and everyone was...smiling. Constantly. They told him things changed while he was out. They won't tell him how or why. Every question he asks is met with chipper assurance of it being "nothing to worry about". They tell him that in this new world they've made, there will be nothing to worry about ever again.

He doesn't think it's just the conniving, cynical bastard in him that makes that hard to believe.

Once he's medically cleared from the hospital, he's herded about with unblinking efficiency. He's being taken to "the Center" where he'll be tested to determine his "Assignment" and then after that he'll be given "the Procedure" before he can go back out into society. The words by now are so expected he almost mouths along: "But of course, there is nothing to worry about". Right: the fact that "the Center" they drop him off at has a big open space for a front lobby with monitors on every wall, guards in every corner, and queues in every direction and looks like a scene about straight out of 'Brazil', that's of no consideration at all.

Dressed in the pale grey outfit they gave him, no doubt a signal of his "unassigned" status, he stands unobtrusively as he can to one side, carefully looking about. People come and go, this is clearly a busy place. A hub of activity for this society. Some people dressed in different colors pass through with purpose, as those dressed in grey like him file up in a line. Some are being escorted past, silent but forcibly, by guards who march them off down one of the dark hallways leading away from this main room; who knows where but probably to nothing good judging by the expressions of those taken.

Shaw conceals his mounting sense of frustration and crawling unease best he can. He knows, instinctively, he wants to do nothing to call undue attention down on him here. But his head turns swiftly from side to side, trying to search out someone he can talk to. Someone willing to actually tell him what the fuck is going on.]
