I don't know what you mean, exactly, but I'm glad you feel better.
[ She reached up and scrubbed a hand over her face, then pushed her bangs back and sighed. She wasn't sure if it was time and space that she needed--she was tired mostly of having stupid, circular conversations with Simon. And she was tired of burdening him with her own anxieties. ]
I don't know what I need. I'm just sick of making things worse.

[ he'd spent days and nights just thinking about how he had failed Clary and how he'd failed himself overall-- but what good did that bring to anyone? what was the point in wasting away in regrets and pretend scenarios.
He was just so sick of his mopey self, it was time to take matters in his hands, reassure Clary that they would be okay come what may. ]
You didn't, Clary, it wasn't your fault. We need to stop dragging eachother down like that. And well--
[ Simon pulled something out of the pocket of his hoodie, two squares of paper labelled "BLADE RUNNER 2049" in bold black letter.]
-- I had an idea on how to start. Actually, I had planned this for like months but you know little inconveniences like becoming a Daylighter got in the way.

[ Clary smiled in spite of herself, looking at the tickets in Simon's hands. They'd been talking about seeing the new Blade Runner since its inception basically--there was no way she could refuse.
Even if they had been weird. Even if she sucked at being alone with Simon lately. It was her best friend duty to go--it was one of their most highly anticipated movies ever, after all.
She looked up at Simon and nodded, still smiling. ]
Yeah. I mean, obviously. Like I could say no.

But I'm on my way to acceptance at least, also I'm just 18 and I still haven't done the things I want to do in my mortal life so-- I have that to look forward to.
[ besides, after that talk with Raphael, Simon found a bit of comfort on realizing that not even immortals were a forever kind of thing, but that was a thought he wasn't going to share with Clary right now.
He was beaming though, they'd been waiting for years to see the sequel, they'd watched the trailers probably hundreds of times and seen the original film so much Simon had ended up buying the director's cut AND the collector's edition.
he had to make things right between them and this is what they were all about. he missed it. ]
Thank you, I don't know what I would have done if you actually said no, not that I expected you to but I doubt Luke would be interested in joining me.

[ Shadowhunters didn't seem to be terribly long lived--Inquisitor Herondale was the oldest one she'd met yet and she was, what, 65? But Clary had beaten the odds this far. She didn't hate her chances.
She shook her head and snorted softly. As if Simon didn't know just how many people wanted to be a part of his life. Clary was far from his only friend. ]
I'm sure plenty of people would love to go with you. So, I'm honored to be your first choice invitee.

[ Simon couldn't really picture himself watching this with anyone else. Clary had always shown interest in the things he liked and vice-versa. She ended up liking the movie basically just as much as Simon did, it was something they had discovered together, just like many of their shared interests. Which is why the idea of seeing it with someone else made Simon feel strange, he would probably go alone. ]
Also, I had these purchased like a month ago, I was just waiting for them to be printable soo... this was always between you me and good old Harrison Ford.
[ he couldn't really contain how excited he was to have this time with Clary, even if things sucked before, this was known territory. Simon was not going to blow it.]
no subject
[ Clary laughed a little and rocked on the balls of her feet. It was nice to be back in friendly territory with Simon--though she still wasn't sure where they were standing.
She had a solid goal for now, and that was: don't fuck up. Simple enough. ]
Um, so when are those tickets for?? I'm so not dressed for the movies right now, but if we have to hustle, I'll do it for you.
no subject
Uuh, exactly three and a half hours from now.
[ he looked down to his outfit, pair of jeans and a tee, not Blade Runner worthy.]
Meet me at the theatre in three?
no subject
She shrugged the straps of her backpack onto both shoulders and nodded toward the door. ]
Okay. I guess I'll see you in three, then.
no subject
[ simon said matter-of-factly. he had no time to waste-- he also had to buy snacks for Clary because this was that kind of movie.
he flashed her a grin and waved goodbye. ]
See you there, Fray.
no subject
[ Truth be told, Clary found Simon's... demeanor? A little strange. But she knew he was just being sweet, and trying to find a new normal.
And that was fine. She'd do much more for him than feel out a new normal where waving from five feet away from each other was a thing.
So she waved, and headed out the door. ]
no subject
but to be honest he was too excited to be worried about it, and he was sure this was a step in the right direction.
he loved Clary and this is something they were sure they'd do together. what was better than that?
it was still weird that he couldn't picture himself doing anything else-- he didn't want to overwhelm her again.
with that thought in mind he started to get ready, this was going to be a good night... he hoped.]
no subject
With that in mind, Clary showed up to the cinema almost precisely three hours later and ran past the line up to the front where, as expected, Simon was waiting. She smiled and waved at him, as before. ]
I'm here! Let's do this.
Icons them except Simon looks like garbage
She looked beautiful. Like okay, granted, Simon always thought Clary was beautiful but today she was just... Glowing.]
Hi-- you're just in time! They're about to get us seated.
[ the concierge soon after came and let them in. Simon was trying to focus on the movie and on how awesome the night was going to be, but he couldn't help but to look down on his Blade Runner tee, jeans and sneakers and feel like he should have probably tried a little harder. ]
You look amazing, Fray.
no subject
[ Thanks, really, to Izzy--the true MVP.
Soon after, they were getting into their seats and Clary tucked into the movie snacks Simon had gotten for her. This was new normal Simon and Clary time, which meant Clary was going to be cool as a cucumber about everything.
Simon, for his part, seemed fine as far as she could tell. He was excited--they both were. It was distracting enough from the weirdness of--everything.
Even if the movie was sorely disappointing. ]
no subject
It kind of dragged his mood.
As they came out of the theater, Simon looked at Clary and he'd almost forgotten how pretty she was today. At least he got to see her and spend time with her. But damn was he bitter about sitting through two and a half hours of Ryan Gosling ruining his entire life. ]
That was... Pretty damn bad.
no subject
It was terrible. Clary was sorry to have witnessed Simon's disappointment. But she was also glad to have been there for moral support. ]
It was. But... at least we'll always have the original?
[ She thought for a second and then smiled at him again. ]
I know--do you want an O-neg? I'll buy since you got us movie tickets and stuff.
no subject
He smiled at her, still feeling defeated but grateful that she was willing to hang out with him a little more. ]
Thanks Fray, you're the best.
no subject
It's really nothing.
[ The Hunter's Moon tonight was about as busy as it ever was. Clary ordered Simon a pint of blood and a soda for herself and brought them back to their table.
The least she could do, really, was not ditch Simon now. There was nothing more disappointing than basking alone on the horribleness of the movie you just watched. ]
It was still cool to hang out again?
[ She said, aiming for reassuring but maybe not hitting it right. It was cool. She always missed hanging out with him when she couldn't.
It was just also weird. ]
no subject
Even if she seemed less sure about it than Simon was. ]
Yeah, I'm really glad you came for your things today.
And even if I hated the movie, I got to see you and it doesn't get much better than that.
[ Simon raised his pint and clanked the glass bottles together. ]
L'chaim.
no subject
[ Clary clinked with Simon and sipped from her bottle.
It was sweet of Simon to say, and she was inclined to agree. Hanging out with him, whether it was perfect or awkward and bittersweet was always exactly the best thing. She loved him--avoiding him was literally the hardest thing ever. ]
I'm glad I did too. Life is a lot lonelier without you.
no subject
[ Simon had already decided what his next step with Clary was, since he had that talk about immortality with Raphael. He couldn't just sit around waiting for things to unravel in his favor.
No time like the present, right? He loved her and she was right here despite everything.]
Clary, I need to tell you something
no subject
So, she flashed Simon a grin and reached across the table to give his hands a brief squeeze. ]
Well, I want to hear whatever it is. You can tell me anything.
[ She crossed her arms over the table and leaned closer, giving him her full attention. She smiled again, reassuring, and tipped her head. ]
What is it?
no subject
I'm ready to do this again. you're the only one I want to be with and I'm done wasting time.
[ he took her hands between his and held them up between them. ]
no subject
Wait--what? Really??
[ She wasn't sure what she had expected--another breakup, maybe, or Simon to tell her he was interested in someone else again. A smile spread across her face and she laughed, half in disbelief and half overjoyed. ]
Simon--I don't even know what to say!
