[margaery has spent countless nights sewing targaryen banners by lamplight with her cousins and nymeria sand. it seems a thankless task, but she daren't complain lest her dear friend nymeria report any resentment on her part back to the martells. of course she wishes she could hold on to her crown, but there's no sense dwelling on impossible things. at every turn she reminds her father and his men of the field of fire, of the futility of standing in the way of dragons. She lights candles in the sept for her brothers and the reach. she prays it will be enough.

'tomorrow,' whispers lady nym and when it arrives there are reachers and dornishmen watching at every window for the glimpse of a dragon. margaery has lost track of tommen, who she was hoping to present as a hostage and therefore keep out of harm's way. there is no time, she must climb the southeastern battlement with a white flag in one hand and the targaryen banner in the other. ruefully she tucks them under one arm to set her crown at her feet.

nobody had any idea of how fast a dragon could fly. it's only a few moments after the first dark blot appears on the horizon that a shadow falls over king's landing. they barely have time to raise the new banners over the old quartered ones. margaery has goosebumps as she waves her flags. she thinks perhaps it is the wind.

the massive dragon drops into view, revealing its gleaming rider.
