Time passed like a river, days flowing into weeks and weeks flowing into months. Ariadne was comfortable with the rhythm of Fae. But after the first few days, it wasn't hard to tell that Agent--that's what she'd decided his name was--was not. He was like a caged tiger, increasingly snarly male as the weeks flew by. She couldn't blame him. Not at all. But seeing the way he wore himself out with misery was hard to take. She tried to give him as much space as she could. But not too much. Because too much loneliness would be even worse.

Fortunately, there were any number of pretenses to visit.

This morning's was a fresh crop of plums. They weren't actually plums. But they were small and round and blue and had a pleasantly tart taste, so Ariadne had taken to calling them plums. They only grew under a waning half moon, not nearly enough for Ariadne's tastes. But when she realized that last night would be the perfect night for a harvest, she stayed up all night, picking the fruit.

With the morning sun, she dropped two dozen plums into a basket she'd made out of reeds and set it against her hip, taking the short walk to where Agent had set up camp. There was nothing like feeling the sticky juice of a plum running down your chin to cheer you up.

Or so she wanted to believe.

The 'camp' wasn't much, but he'd made do with worse, in the past. Here he'd managed to fashion himself a shelter of reeds and moss and whatever spare bits of wood or wreckage he could find, and a soft place to rest his head while he recovered. Now, the wounds were already beginning to scar over, but there was still no sign of getting out of his place.

The trail would have gone cold by now. He'd have no way of following his quarry, once he got out of here, and they'd no doubt think he'd deserted the mission. If he was found by this point, he could almost guarantee they'd throw his ass back into a prison cell to be forgotten...if they didn't sic his old partner on him, just for irony's sake.

There wasn't a whole lot to remain cheerful about. If he was growing more surly, it certainly wasn't the fault of the young woman who now lingered on the peripheral of what could generously be considered 'his' space. Wash was just in the process of washing up and heading out to do morning exercises when Ariadne arrived, plums in tow.

His gaze flickered between her and the plums, an eyebrow arching. "You look like you were busy."
