recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS:

The conversation went something like this:
Alistair: (coming in Ferox's room without knocking. Interrupting something important, whether that was paperwork, a cold compress to reduce a headache, or purely resting, it wasn't as important) So hey, Anora and I were just talking and well, (a hand rumpling his cropped blond hair) we've got a problem with the Were-wolf group that's arriving next week.

Ferox: (looks up from whatever he was in the middle of then gets back to it.

Alistair: (nervously) You see, Thedas is supposed to do this alliance thing...

Ferox: (doesn't look up or interrupt)

Alistair: Anora (clears throat) I mean Queen Anora (trying to draw on authority to bolster his own position as her consort, but so unused to the job it's not quite working) Queen Anora tells me that none of her ladies in waiting are willing to marry the proposed groom. And we were thinking...(the pause hoping that Ferox would rescue him from saying it, except he wouldn't) We were thinking that because you like men...

Ferox: Loved a man (growling)

Alistair: (hastily correcting himself) Because you liked a man -

Ferox: (He had 'liked' women too, but Alistair tended to forget that bit)

Alistair: Maybe you...? (nearly squeaking at the end, which was an accomplishment considering that the tall, broad shouldered man was not a mouse) (cleared his throat and continued) You're a Warden now, not a Teyrn, so you don't have to have any children, not like Anora and I...although maybe if your brother needed help you could donate one for the cause - just thinking out loud here...

It was, of course, all Anora's idea. A way to pass off a wolf to someone of some importance who couldn't possibly reproduce with the 'beast'. Ferox remembered the Werewolves without anger or holding a grudge. It had not surprised him that there was more than just the small group. He had removed the curse from those humans who were actually just spelled. The others, the real shifters, stayed the same, but the door had been opened for negotiations.

The Queen's thinking was that Rory and Iona were dead, so what did it matter who he wed? Ferox Cousland was stubborn, but even Anora Mac Tir had a way of wearing one down, which was why, one week later, he was being introduced to this stranger.

Dressed in formal gear, well-oiled leather creaked as he gave a half bow. Anora - pardon me, Queen Anora - rattled off his name and titles, Ferox Algere Cousland, son of Bryce and Eleanor Cousland, younger brother of Teyrn Fergus Cousland, Warden Commander of Ferelden (as if there were more than just eight wardens in the entire vast country) and Hero of Ferelden (a title Alistair had come up with after the dragon had been killed).

They would be wed and then the following day Ferox would take the Wolf contingent to Vigil's Keep just outside of the port city of Amarantine. The Queen had already arranged for a ship so that they would leave the capital city as quickly as possible. In her opinion, the shorter the visit the better as the Mother Church was certain to get upset. An ambassador and their assistants would be left behind to negotiate the agreements, but Ferox and his 'problem' would be out of the way, along with any of his troupe who wanted to see where this Werewolf would be living. (And likely to confirm that it wasn't a dungeon somewhere or with chains to hold the beast.)

He was used to not being trusted. Did not like it, but the situation was nothing new.
