[ Her greeting deflects him, and he sidesteps at the doorway, moving towards the far tables. Then corrects his direction when sense pinches, since there is nothing to be done on the opposite end of the room, nor is there anything even remotely unpleasant waiting for him on the proper one.

Forrest meets the barstools behind her after only a moment a more, sweeping at the countertop with his left hand. He clears his throat shortly, in acknowledgement. ]

(She knows better than to tease him, though with his stumbling around, he looks for all the world like a frightened child. More comfortable going after scumbags with his brass knuckles than having an actual conversation.

A smirk still playing on her lips, she leaned her elbows onto the counter top, glancing idly at the magazine she'd left there from the night before)

You hungry?

Ehm. [ It's a delayed, indecisive sound. He keeps his eyes to her wrists, and when his gaze passes up her throat to her face, he jerks to look at the mugs lining a sink behind her. Spare her the contemplative stare he has in mind. ] I can--s'alright. [ Forrest is the farthest from truly slow, or incompetent by any means, but he has half a hope to hell that she knows that. Tugs his hand, clenched but not stuffed in his cardigan pocket, to wave at thataways. ] Coffee.

[ With the word squeezed out, he goes to move down the length of the bar, get it himself. ]

(Maggie has made a lot of mistakes in her time, more than most women her age to be certain, but thinking that Forrest Bondurant was any kind of slow that wasn't merely contemplative and deliberate wasn't one of them. Any who did make that assumption didn't hold on to it for very long before they were made to see the error of their ways.

Just as quiet, though not nearly as skittish, her eyes tracked his movements, dancing with a laughter that she wouldn't dare let out for fear he would think it was directed at him and not simply the way he was acting)

You sure you don't want nothing? (There's a soft, teasing quality to her voice as she takes another slow drag from her cigarette) I was thinking about making eggs.
