Your characters have been forced apart- be it by destiny, circumstance, or death. The only thing that's certain? It wasn't voluntary. Now, thanks to chance, luck, or fate, you meet again.

Play out the separation, the reunion, or both.

Reason

1. Death - One of you died- or that was the general consensus, anyway. Whether you've been brought back or you were never really dead in the first place, who can say? All we know for sure is you're alive and kicking- more or less.

2. Argument - The two of you had a falling out, a fatal difference in opinion that resulted in the more or less permanent parting of ways. Now, time has passed. Maybe you see things a little differently?

3. Torn Apart - Neither of you wanted to be split up, but circumstances beyond your control have forced you apart. Parents, demons from hell, a job change, whatever it was, there was absolutely no stopping it. Just when it seemed like you'd never see them again- there they are.

4. Lost - You've been wandering on your own for so long, displaced and confused, with no real memory of how you got there. Somehow, through sheer dumb luck or the assistance of a stranger, you've been put back on the right path.

5. Life - Who can really tell when it happened? People just grow differently. At some point, you fell out of touch, missed a few phone calls, whatever it was, life got in the way, and they drifted out of your life almost without your noticing it.

[There was something about New York that seemed familiar, the moment he set foot there, and looked around. He'd had flashes of it before, interspersed with some images of Iowa, but visiting the latter hadn't triggered anything near as much as this. He walked through the streets, trying to figure out where to go next, watching as people passed him by. It was aimless, really. Hoping he'd remember something more than he currently did.

All he had was the last six months, and even that wasn't much. He didn't even have a name. Nothing had felt right on his tongue, and whenever he tried to sound something out, his mind clouded painfully. He'd woken up in a hospital in the ass crack of nowhere. Battered and bruised and alone. Wandering was all that he had for now. Maybe being back somewhere that felt familiar would mean someone would recognise him. Then, perhaps, he would get some answers.]

There are time when you just have to suck it up and say the Universe is a real pile of crap. Human bodies strewn here and there amid the Husks and Marauders, the Cannibal carcasses, and the Brute guts, and the broken former-Asari Banshees with their horrific misshapen faces and bodies. There was nothing glamorous about this war and there was nowhere that had been left untouched or unscarred by it.

Sitting in a hospital for almost a month getting her body put together and down deep enough that when she'd come to, nothing seemed real, Shepard had been spending the next few weeks piecing it all together. Crutches became a cane and less flailing, steadier on her feet. Steady enough to hack the hell out of the systems on the floating hospital she'd been transferred to after they'd found her.

She sent out a call - to the Normandy, to Tali, to Garrus, to Liara, to Joker...to EDI. And then she sat, watching the stars blur as the massive medical transport picked up speed.

[the death of a government was never pretty, and the collapse of the communist regime hadn't failed to disappoint. Cuba had felt this coming in his bones long ago but refused to address it, too stubborn (and maybe a little optimistic) to admit that something was wrong. by the time he couldn't ignore it events were happening too fast for him to process and the entire infrastructure was falling down around his ears.

when Castro had first wrested power away from his predecessors, Cuba had prayed once that when they inevitably fell that there would be no blood. just one time, a new government with no blood.

he knew the world better than to expect God to hear him.

it had taken an entire year bathed in gunfire and screaming politicians to straighten things out into something resembling stable. a single year for a country was nothing more than a blink of the eye, but this one had been carved into Cuba's body to force him into remembrance. as if he would forget.

but that was the past and he was walking again, albeit stiffly. with the storm blown over for the most part at home he could finally (reluctantly) turn his attention to other countries.

god, he had a lot of explaining to do.

so there he is, standing outside Canada's door in winter gear too thick for the season thanks to his pathetic tolerance for chilly temperatures. he's eying the door up like it might leap up and bite him at any moment and has been for several minutes.

nothing to do but man up and face the music. he sighs and raps on the door, a little more gently than usual thanks to his still aching everything.]
