Sentinels and Guides Shipping Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?
Rules
1) Post with your character/canon in the subject header.
2a) Choose whether your character is a Sentinel or a Guide
or
2b) If you don't know or don't care, just leave it blank!
3) Information about Sentinels and Guides can be found here and here. Information on 'The Sentinel' which this meme comes from can be found here.
Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

In particular when said Guide licks straight up his spine, making Gladio gasp despite himself, arching his shoulders and wanting more. Hells, John is going to drive him mad. He wants more than anything to turn around and take him right here and the feeling of a nosing Guide does nothing to help that. So he only rumbles, breathing through his desire but unable to stop the rousing below the belt.
no subject
"Sounds like everyone has a lot on their hands with him. Not sure I'll be making it any easier, but I can try. I'll just make sure to impress him, hmm? Maybe I'll impress you, as well." John rolls his hips against Gladio in a mock-thrust as he leaves the Sentinel's groin with his cock untouched and moves up to washing his abs.
HE'S ON TO YOU JOHN
"...don't even think I'm missing what you're up to," Gladio growls quietly as John's hands slide away from his interested cock. It's still a playfulness in his voice, luckily, but there's instincts threatening that don't care as much about taking things slow. He's got them in hand (UNLIKE JOHN) right now, but John certainly isn't helping. "You don't need to impress me, you know. Like what I've seen so far." True, they've still got a long way to go and even if instinct says he has his Guide, everything's good, the real world doesn't work as neatly. They've already come across an issue or two, things they need to discuss and not try to fuck away, but they're managing. So far. Hasn't even been a day.
Onto what? He is an innocent lamb.
The deed 'help' is nearly done, and John's fully aware this treatment of the Sentinel may come back to bite him, but he continues to draw it out, pulling back only when he has to, finishing up Gladio's arms. "Glad you like what you've seen. Can't say I'm terribly disappointed, either."
There are some things, but it's easier not to think about them in the moment and just deal with what's physical. That's a terrible communication strategy for a new couple, but it's only the first day. There will be time. Maybe when there's less heat... Maybe when Gladio's beating his arse in a sparring match.
Bull. Shit.
He raises a brow towards his Guide, questioning, before snagging the soap to get the cloth sudsy again. He clearly had every plan to return the favor, but mostly, it was a chance to touch his Guide, to learn more about John. Maybe it was a thing with him, but the scars and whorls and knots of the body told him more than words might immediately. "Let me?"
no subject
It's only a moment more before John resolves himself and places his own hands against the shower wall to brace for what might come. His back is it's own pattern scars; though, there isn't quite as much as what's on his chest. There's the puckered, pink-white entrance wound from the gunshot over his shoulder, an a few small nicks down by one hip. The only other prominent one his on his left side. It looks round and jagged, like someone broke off a bottle and stabbed it into him.
no subject
"...what happened here?" His fingers brush against the mark over his left side, curious. His voice is soft over John's shoulder, watching John's face for what he can see.
no subject
"Ended up with her at A&E. Couple of bruised ribs to go along with it. Had to happen in the middle of my exam period at uni, too. Not as exciting as the other one." He shrugs his shoulders and peers at the glass in front of him, watching Gladio's ghostly reflection in the pane.
"They ended up at A&E with us, as well. Broke a couple of their arms, sprained some wrists..." Being a doctor is useful in knowing how to hurt people, if nothing else.
no subject
"Sounds like they got the worst of it. Good."
That's his Guide.
no subject
John's been cured of his psychosomatic limp, he's met a famous person, he's gotten to make love on a giant bed, and now he's being washed down in an impossibly gorgeous bathroom by a young, strapping man who finds his middle-aged arse and all its scars something to be fond of. Something to be proud of. There were plenty of Sentinels John has known who would have taken a look at him, at the way he's all but weaponized his abilities, and decided there's something completely and utterly wrong and broken inside of him. He doesn't act like a Guide should.
But maybe that's what makes Gladio perfect. He doesn't seem to mind as much. "I'm absolutely giving you hell for bar fights if you manage to get into one with me around now. No more excuses." John leans back to press himself against the other man again, just relishing the touch of skin on skin.
no subject
"You mean more like if I get into one without you around?" The smirk is evident in his voice, his hands coming around to wash John's chest, leaving them pressed up against one another. "If I get into one with you around... we better be messing someone up side by side." Since John seems more than capable of holding his own in one, not exactly like he's looking for them or anything but people like to think they can challenge the big guy in the room.
no subject
"Let's not go looking for fights with other people, though, right?" Daemons like they're planning for the weekend are different. But talking of Harry and the bar... "D'you have any family I'll need to meet, by the way? Your dad?" Impressing Noct is important, but impressing the rest of Gladio's family will need to be a priority, as well.
no subject
"My father, Clarus, and my little sister, Iris. He's with Noct's father right now and she's still in school." There is an unmistakable warmth in his voice when he talks about his family and a tone of respect for his father. "She's eight years younger than me, but... she's a good kid. She'll probably decide I'm terrible for you."
Though he wonders, honestly, what his father will think of John. Hopefully, he'll see the same strong willed fighter that Gladio does.
no subject
"What's Clarus like? You?" Like father, like son.
no subject
It's Gods damned adorable, John. Gladio might appreciate those little motions more than he can say. He keeps up his 'work', though thinking on how to answer John's question in the process. "...we're similar," he'll agree, even though there's a 'but' hanging there, "but he's a little more straight-edged than me, twice as tough. Taught me everything I know. Hard to tell he's got a sense of humor on him, but it's in there. Iris... she wants to follow in our footsteps, pretty sure Dad doesn't want her to but that's never stopped her from doing whatever she wants. Smart as a whip, but she'll be able to puppy-eye anyone. I'm also pretty sure she's got incriminating photos of me with braids in my hair thanks to that."
no subject
Gladio's hands over him help to sooth away the old hurts on that score. Hopefully, Harry won't bring anything embarrassing up when they meet with her. He'd prefer his new partner be kept in the dark about some things, particularly if he's closer to his family. "This feels nice, by the way." He puts a touch of teasing into his tone. "Glad I let you return the favor."
no subject
Hard to tell.
"Means I get the perfect excuse to touch you. Win-win." Gladio smirks slightly, the protective glaze to his eyes fading away before he pulls back, winds up the washcloth, and cracks it like a whip on John's backside. "Gotta get your hair next, now."
no subject
He shoves lightly at the Sentinel as he puts his back to the glass now, the cool pane a nice contrast to the hot water. "I didn't wash your hair, so that's up next after this, if you do mine."
no subject
"Heh. I'd like to see you try." He winds up the washcloth threateningly again, then winks before he slowly kneels down in front of John, voice dripping in tease. "Here, now you'll be able to reach."
no subject
The Guide grabs for the shampoo over Gladio's head and gets down to it quickly before the other man has much of a chance to comment or tease him. John's well aware it's coming, but he's going to try to stave it off as much as he can by vigorously massaging his Sentinel's scalp.
no subject
Besides, John's hands feel damn good. He can't help the quiet rumble that leaves him, pressing his head in more.
no subject
Young bucks. He probably shouldn't ask, but a part of him is wondering. "Just... how old are you?" Please let Gladio be at least over 21. And since it's probably going to come up anyway, "Just turned 35 a couple months ago."
no subject
He slides a hand back through his hair, he likes his gods damned mullet John, deal, and grins up at the other. "I think with both swords, thanks."
no subject
"But which is mightier?" he asks with a smirk before curling down and taking advantage of Gladio's upturned face to kiss him. He tastes, not unexpectedly, like soap, but that's fine. Everything is just fine for now. John pulls back and stands up again before speaking. "I think I like my chances with one over the other, at least. And I suppose I'll just have to pull the older and wiser card if it comes up."
no subject
"I guess you're gonna be the one to decide that, mm?" He hums quietly into the kiss, then laughs before he slowlys tands, stretching himself up. "We're all used to Iggy pulling that card. At least the wiser card, but he's probably a hundred years older than the rest of us in soul or something like that." There are a few things John needs to learn about this group of friends, though, and just where the boundaries of their friendship lie. It might be different than he thinks.
