Sentinels and Guides - My other HALF

Sentinels and Guides Shipping Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?
Rules
1) Post with your character/canon in the subject header.
2a) Choose whether your character is a Sentinel or a Guide
or

3) Information about Sentinels and Guides can be found here and here. Information on 'The Sentinel' which this meme comes from can be found here.
Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

As discussed. Sort of,
And then she twisted the handle to push it open, stepping inside the grey room, her gaze falling on the chamber in the middle of the room and she stopped dead, even if she couldn't see anything through the clouded glass.
Still, it was an intimidating moment. She'd been told about him since she was old enough to know he was there, but she'd still had years before the bond would be ready to fully lock into place.
And that day had finally come.
She was barefoot as she crossed the last few feet of space, fingers touching the tube before she pressed the button to open it.

She might have assumed that the capsule was large because of the old technology; more room needed for various outdated equipment. But no, the capsule was larger because the man himself was larger, naked and covered with scars, a single piece of cloth draped of his hips for propriety. By the time that haze is gone, he's started to wake up, slow and careful, muscles shifting, clenching and unclenching, and deep brown eyes fluttering open under a fringe of dark hair.
And he freezes as soon as he sees her, something in him finally, finally clicking into place.

Impressive numbers, but actually seeing him in the flesh makes those numbers real in a way they hadn't been on the page. The scars draw Elena's eyes, though following them down and then looking back up to meet his eyes.
"Hi." Because it's the only thing she can really think to say at the moment. "I'm Elena."

Barry Allen - The Flash - OTA
#1 - Let me know if this is okay!
Except even while she's working with the force and forming them into a force that can actually stand up to metahumans, sometimes the tug will go somewhere completely different in the city, far away, or even go so far that it disappears entirely.
It's making her Sentinel senses go haywire. She has to excuse herself to go outside and hide in a shaded alley, squeezing her eyes shut to cancel out some of the sensory noise and taking deep breaths. It's the only way to really stave off a fugue state without sitting down with a Guide, and she really doesn't have time for that.
The tug swings around too quickly again, like it's everywhere at once and she can't tell if it's coming closer or further away, and she does not have time for this. She's no Guide, but she still gives the tug a solid mental yank.]
So help me, if this keeps up, I may just kill you when we meet. [She mutters to herself without any real venom, massaging her temples before doing her best to ignore the tug.]
Perfect - I love it!
They're closer now. Somewhere in Central after all this time and as much as Barry wants to search his Sentinel out he's kind of got his hands full. There are case files to work and that's before he has to run down to STAR Labs to train most of his night away.
Small wonder his Sentinel thinks he's going in a million different directions at once - because he kinda is.
The solid yank certainly gets his attention and Barry is on the move again, racing back towards CCPD and skidding to a halt in a blur of yellow lightning just outside an alley. It's his Sentinel, the source of the solid tug in his mind, he's sure of it.
Barry approaches with a smile.]
Hi.
[Yep. Still smooth as ever.]

[That is literally the only possible reaction she can have after a bolt of lightning streaks into the alley and a man snaps into being in front of her. That, and she instinctively grabs her gun, but the man is smiling at her and the tug is humming. This is her Guide. Her Guide is the Flash.]
It's you. [She moves her hand away from her gun. For all the years she's considered what her Guide might be like, she never imagined this.]

It, of course, isn't true. Not the way that most of them think, at least. There's certainly a lot of Sentinels in the superhero community, just as there were a lot in the supervillain communities. What people don't realize is that a lot of superheroes were Guides as well, especially the so-called 'baseline' human ones. There were also people who weren't either, of course, but the majority were either one or the other.
The Bats, for example, are nearly all Guides, with one or two exceptions. It's something that Dick sometimes ponders about when above whatever city he's found himself in. Whatever else they may be, the various Bat family members tend to be good, stabilizing influences on whatever team that they're on. Bruce, of course, notwithstanding.
Then again, maybe the Justice League just ran harder to Sentinels than the Titans ever did.
The personal debate, though, isn't that interesting tonight. Tonight, Nightwing has found a small group of what he thought were muggers and turned out to be ninjas in Hell's Kitchen. What should be a quick and easy fight is more difficult than he could have anticipated and a hand could definitely be useful.

It wasn't perfect, but it was enough to keep Matt grounded.
The Hand was on the move again. Matt was tracking the small group along the rooftops, following the sound of a fight. He drops down into the battle, setting his shoulder against the man struggling to hold his own. They would take them down together.

"So. Are there always this many guys in black around here and I've just never noticed?" Not that Dick has much to speak from because most of his uniform is black as well. It's just broken up by long slashes of turquoise.

They kept him with four different bodyguards, mainly to keep him from running than to actually keep him from harm. They kept him on the docks and trotted him out when they needed an all-purpose Guide to ground all of the Sentinels in their ranks (a literal headache for a single Guide, but he was able to do it without dying of exhaustion, so he had to), but they didn't know how far his empathy stretched. He could feel the Sentinels beyond the docks, churning with their feelings and wants meshing together in a clamor that split his head until he couldn't stand to move or see any kind of light. Even if the Yakuza left him without any kind of guards or locks, he wouldn't have the strength to escape alone.
But in the tangle of Sentinels, there was a tug. People had talked about the Connection, of course, but he didn't know if this was that or just another side effect. He held onto it anyway, because it was his one point of consistency in this whole city. He never pulled because he doubted that the Sentinel had the power to take on the Yakuza, but he clung nonetheless.
That night, Nageki was marched outside again and sat down on a stool by the water, guarded by four people as he waited for the Yakuza Sentinels to return. He kept his head bowed and his eyes closed to shut out as much of the outside world as possible, his temples pounding already before he had even started.
But something was wrong with the tug. Its source was much closer than it every was. Nageki tried to push against it, to drive it away from the docks. Yakuza weren't known for being kind to intruders.

He had Foggy to act as a grounding force when things grew too overwhelming. They didn't have the same innate connection as a destined Sentinel and Guide, but his best friend had been able to pull him out of some pretty difficult fugue states in the past. It wasn't perfect but it was enough to keep the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in operation. He could protect the streets.
At least until the Connection started to pull at him. Faint and tired and there. A destined Guide. One who could help Matt parse the sensory overload when it threatened to overwhelm him.
Every push away was only met with a firm tug. He might not be a Guide, but Matt Murdock is a stubborn man. He's not giving up until he finds them, which is what leads the Devil to the docks and to a small gathering of Yakuza which he wouldn't abide in the first place. Gangs weren't allowed in his portion of the city.
They were Sentinels as well, but no match for Matt's fighting skill. Nothing was going to keep him from his Guide.
