Why did you do that?

[He finally gives in and asks, hands pressing over his face.]

I was really, really happy. I thought you were too?

So was I.

[ Arguably happier than he'd ever been, no, make that without a doubt. And he had thought, no, Tony Stark is never genuinely happy, so why not go out and ruin it before he starts believing it'll really last. ]

I made a mistake, probably the biggest one of my life, and I've made some massive ones.

[He asks, muffled by his hands. But leaning, now, quietly into Tony's embrace.]

It'd almost be easier if it were all my fault, then we could just. Change something tangible and never have to feel like this again.

Then I get the chance to prove to you that I mean this...

[ He inhales slowly, his hold around Bruce tightening. ]

I love you, Bruce, and so help me I never want to hurt you again.

If it does happen, I'm going to go so far underground even Fury will never find me again.

[He warns him, quietly.]

[ He tilts his head to hide a very slight smile, because he's having trouble believing that he's actually being given a second chance. ]

[Scrubbing a hand through his hair.]

[ Tony lets out a shaky, half sigh, half laugh, pressing a kiss to Bruce's temple, not quite ready to stand. ]

Sounds fair.

[ Really, he's surprised there isn't a longer list of demands. ]

[Bruce still has his hands pressed over his face, wondering when exactly his self-respect curled up and died.]

Don't touch me. Just for a bit, okay? I need to sort through some stuff.

Y-yeah. [ He finds himself spluttering it out, quick to release Bruce from the hold and put a bit of distance between them- but not to much. ] Uh... I'll go, if you want.

Put on coffee. I think you should stay.

[Looking up at him between his fingers.]

[ Tony nods, moving a little stiffly, doing as he's told and putting on a pot of coffee without protest. He's attempting to regain a bit of his composure, but the verdict is out on whether he'll actually be able to do it. Mostly he's just grateful, more so than he's able to express, and it's put him in a very unusual state of quiet. ]
