WHATEVER WE HAVE BETWEEN US IS WHAT THEY WANT TO ABUSE
![]() You don't have delusions of grandeur. You've never been more than a pawn, a tool to be used by others. A hammer to wield, worth only the power to destroy and not much else. That was the reality you knew, at least, until this person looked at you and you alone. Not your usefulness, only you. They were the first to treat you like you weren't below everyone, like you belong - maybe by their side? Maybe that's a place where it's worth fighting to stay.

Sherlock Holmes || Sherlock BBC || m/m, spoilers are fine.
Both kind of weapons but Sherlock is the "Bucky"
And six months later he would learn from Mycroft that he hadn't just sacrificed his freedom - but his life. His MI6 mission had sent him to a quick execution. Shot in the back of the head. He wouldn't have seen it coming, said Mycroft. He wouldn't have suffered. Good for Sherlock bloody Holmes because John was left to grieve once again. He had tried to hold his newborn daughter in his arms and believe that at least he hadn't lost Sherlock for nothing.
Only then he lost Mary barely a few months later. They had almost settled into believing she could live a normal life until she was hunted down by one of her old freelance buddies with a grudge. Sherlock had killed and died to keep her safe - and it was all for nothing. Except for Rosie.
But John knew he couldn't be a full-time dad, just forgetting everything that had happened. It wasn't healthy for either of them. So he tells Mycroft to take him on. Give him the damn missions, the grunt work. Let him fight the world to earn a fortune for his daughter when she gets older whether or not John lives long enough to see her enjoy it. She stays with friends and he sees her whenever there is a lull or a free weekend. It's better this way. She can see her daddy at his best instead of trapped in numb, pointless mourning.
Maybe he is selfish for hoping that one day he won't be quick enough or strong enough and someone will put a bullet in his head...and send him to Sherlock. Is it strange that he thinks of being reunited with him and not his wife? Maybe. But he knows he's far from the good and honest man either she or Sherlock thought he was. The man they were willing to die for. Idiots.
Rosie is two now. John enjoys a Sunday with her in the park until he gets a briefing from Mycroft via an email on his phone.
Be on alert for an enemy agent that has thus far been said to have taken out two of our operations single-handed. Codename; Ghost. Highly dangerous and our intelligence indicates he's arrived in London. Await updates. Antarctica.
"Daddy, thwing!" Rosie begs and John indulges her a few more. Then he knows he will have to give her back to Stella if Mycroft wants him on call for tonight.
A new lone agent? John wonders if this one might pose a challenge.

Kylo Ren - Star Wars - OTA
o hai ther :3
Snoke had sent him on to his next mission - this one, not in the rimward extremes of the Unknown Regions, but in the heart of New Republic space. The New Republic was fragmenting as the First Order struck blow after blow against the ragged remnants of its fleet, and more and more worlds considered dropping out to make individual conciliations with the First Order. Strong voices had emerged on both sides; there were a few candidates for whose assassination would make the greatest impact, and whose handiwork it should be made to look like, but between them, Snoke and Jacob had narrowed it down to his ultimate target.
Even before he'd landed, Jacob could feel how much things had changed since the last time he'd been in New Republic space; the Force was thick with tension and fear, the energy like a storm on the edge of breaking. It was invigorating - the fear was something he could feed off of, something that amplified his perception and his power. It also stirred old memories, ones that weren't his, ones that belonged to someone who had once fought against every law of nature and the Force and won the most painfully Pyrrhic victory Jacob could imagine. Whenever he'd had a moment of anything approaching downtime in the course of his mission, he'd tried to put those memories to use, and finally he'd managed to create a super stripped down emulator of a forty thousand year old system, one that could open the files as something other than gibberish.
He'd waited until after his mission was completed to send proof of both successes to the Supreme Leader, to give himself a head start in dealing with the data.
Since then, Jacob's field work had been suspended indefinitely - the Supreme Leader would've found something for him if he'd gotten restless enough to complain, but between the other project he was running and the occasional interrogation and termination of Resistance operatives, Jacob could kill often enough to keep himself sated. In addition to continuing Thuban's - and, still unbeknownst to him, parts of Darth Plagueis's - research, he was also working on a project to create undetectable sleeper agents to sow back into the Resistance: he was developing a technique for implanting suggestions and triggers for them into the minds of his captives, then piecing them carefully back together around them, to pull off what was essentially a delayed mind trick. He considered it best practices to terminate his test subjects after their first round of experiments rather than reuse them, to keep from muddying the results.
When he hit a roadblock in one project, he'd switch his focus to the other while he waited for the answer to come to him - but, in the back of his mind, there was always one remaining distraction, and it had only been growing more intense. He was attuned enough to Kylo Ren's energy to sense it from anywhere in the galaxy, and to pinpoint his location; these days, though, he probably wasn't the only one. His master's power had increased even further than Jacob had imagined possible, but he could also sense the intensity of the suffering that underlaid that increase. He knew that, under normal circumstances, pain only fueled Kylo's connection to the dark side, that he practically welcomed it, but this... this was not something normal, and it was eating away at both of them.
Finally, Jacob had reestablished communication with his master. Using his sensory deprivation tank to submerge himself in the Force, he'd been able not only to begin picking up Kylo's thoughts, but to transmit something back.
What happened to you?

When his apprentice drifted off, Kylo didn't want to wake him. Instead, he quietly reached up to the holoprojector and continued scrolling. Many of the ind-depth medical texts were beyond his level of understanding. He was no expert on the altered microenvironment of tumor cells. However, when he read about the idea of using a virus to infiltrate the cancer cell, he was immediately reminded of both the Death Stars and Starkiller Base taken out by seemingly inconsequential foot soldiers. Maybe such a thing could actually work...
It seemed better than the harsher alternatives, at least. Were there even studies on bone marrow transplants in Force sensitives? If the basic components of his blood cells were no longer his own, would he still feel the Force? What would they do against Snoke then?
His train of thought was broken when Jacob started to twitch beside him. Kylo had experienced more than enough nightmares to instantly recognize the terror for what it was. He leaned in, reaching out for Jacob's mind the way his apprentice often did to him. It might have been too little, too late, though.
Jacob immediately jerked awake, and Kylo was treated to a fleeting image that would remain burned into his mind forever.
"...a...a dream?" He gasped nervously. "Or a vision?"
