That was the reality you knew, at least, until this person looked at you and you alone. Not your usefulness, only you. They were the first to treat you like you weren't below everyone, like you belong -

maybe by their side? Maybe that's a place where it's worth fighting to stay.

[It hasn't been long since she left with Magneto, at least in the terms of training and getting something together. A group isn't very appropriate, but they have evolved beyond organizing and now are actively infiltrating other governmental organizations, gaining access to information, and playing a hand in global and domestic politics, albeit using mostly subterfuge tactics.

Leaving the Senator's office while disguised as his secretary, Raven doesn't expect to come face to face with her once brother. It's an immediate reaction to tighten her hold to the briefcase she's carrying, holding the information Erik needs for his next move.]

Charles! [The shock of seeing him is written on the Senator's secretary's face. For a split second, she forgets the ruse.]

[Charles isn't exactly expecting any familiar faces on this particular trip to Washington. It's a simple errand really, an in person visit to a potential student, child of a government official. Charles is, after all, still trying to put together his academy, though more and more it feels like circumstance is working against him on this.

His chair rolls across the pavement, though he stops at the sound of his name. The face is entirely unfamiliar, but he barely needs to touch that mind before recognition brightens across his face all at once.]

Raven... [He's surprised. Of course he's surprised, he didn't know when he'd see her again -- if ever. His expression softens into a smile.] It's so good to see you.

[Immediately Raven tries to compose herself, breathing deeply before she feels that familiar presence in her mind. It's something she isn't exactly happy to feel, but can't exactly blame him. The body she's currently shifted as wouldn't be familiar to him. A small exhale, and in truth she's a little surprised at his reaction. She left him after all.

And that's when the entirety of the situation hits her. The closest person she's ever had to family, the only person who cared, and now he was in front of her in a wheelchair. It isn't hard to put together what happened after she left with Magneto.

Again she clutches the briefcase before looking around. It only takes a moment before she's back to the face he knows-- simply because while there is no one around, a blue mutant in front of a political building would draw far more attention than she intends.

In truth she doesn't know what to say. One more time, she looks around, half expecting Erik to come around the corner and tell her what to do. But by now she's been on her own for a few missions. He's expecting her back at the hotel in twenty minutes. It's obvious he isn't behind this, but she doesn't know what do next. She doesn't need to ask him how he is.]

I wasn't expecting you here. [The senator clearly wasn't around. But he did have an appointment in a half hour. She had timed her escape accordingly.]

[There she is, a face he recognizes, even if it isn't the bluer version of her. This isn't exactly the place for that, she's certainly correct. For his part, Charles leaves her thoughts the moment he's recognized her, though. Of course he couldn't help what he'd gleaned from those few seconds -- that she's here on Erik's errand, that she's meant to be somewhere else, soon. He promised not to read her mind so many years ago, and though he's certainly broken that promise more than once, he doesn't want to break it again. Not any further, despite the things he's caught glimpses of.

But he doesn't mention those things, doesn't even glance at the briefcase in her hand. What does that matter? It's Raven -- who will always be his sister, his family, dear to him -- and he's missed her. Worried for her, about where she was.]

No, no clearly you weren't. I'm just as surprised to see you. [He lifts a hand, holding it out towards her like he needs to touch her, assure himself that she's real, strange as that may sound.] You look well. Are you... well?

[She doesn't comment on the first part of what he said. She knows he wasn't in her mind enough to know too much of what she's up to. But meeting her like this in this exact spot is enough to say more than she ever needed to. She's here for Erik clearly. Her eyes dart from the chair he sits in, trying to swallow the guilt down.]

I'm fine. [Busy, stressed, not sure how to even process this current moment.]

How are you? [It's then she meets his eyes. She's genuine and less agitated, though clearly concerned about what he could say. He can certainly close up on her, blame her for not knowing since she didn't stick around. But the softer way she asks means that she does hope he's okay. She wishes things were different. She's deeply longing for some sort of answer that can erase what happened at the beach.

As mush as she should be composed, knowing Erik is waiting for her, she can't seem to get her legs to work.]

Better now.

[Charles answers, honestly. Really. It eases something in him to see her -- even if they've walked separate paths, even if they left each other under strange and strained circumstances all that time ago on the beach. It doesn't matter.

It's Raven.

He just wants this moment to last, doesn't want to watch her leave again. His gaze roams over her features, before finding her eyes with his own once more.] I've missed you.
