the monster & the maiden fair meme There's a long precedent in folklore and myth of beautiful young people - both men and women - being kidnapped by monsters: dragons, beasts, goblins, demons, elves, vampires, wolves, or even evil humans. In the end, however, these prisoners are almost always rescued and brought back to civilization to live a normal and happy life. But what if they didn't want to leave their jailor? They've seen behind the surface and have begun to sympathize with this "monster;" no, more than that, they've fallen for them. Will this story have a happy ending? Will the monster believe that anyone could love them? Most importantly, though, can the two of them be left alone without any attempts at a "rescue?" how to play Comment with your character, your preference, and what role they'll play. Feel free to AU characters to your desire role. Reply to others. Thread anything that could remotely fit under the umbrella theme. Was the kidnapping just that, or did both parties know (and care) for each other before, making it a collaborative, mutual effort? Perhaps you'd prefer to play the actual Beauty and The Beast-style getting to know each other or seeing behind the grizzly facade. What about an attempted "rescue?" Or maybe you could thread out a scene where the prisoner runs away from the society they were forced back into and returns to their beloved beast! It's all up to you. You could even do smut if you wanted to, but this isn't a smut meme.

One minute, Theresa Rubel--Trouble--had been been trying to evade a group of thugs who had followed her down a dark alley. The next minute, he was there, leaping from the shadows like some leonine avenger. At first, she'd thought he was a wesen like the creatures in the old, old versions of the Grimms' tales--creatures who could shift at will between human and animal form--but eventually she'd come to realize that he was always like that. If he was some kind of wesen, he was unable to retract the transformation: always trapped in full woge. If he wasn't, we'll, then she wasn't any more sure than Vincent, how to explain why he was the way he was.

But she wasn't sure it mattered. Because the longer she knew him, the more she realized that it wasn't his appearance that mattered so much as what was in his heart. And that? Was just as big as everything else about him.

[Mostly canon-blind aside from the fact that I have not been living under a rock and thus have seen at least clips of anthropomorphized irradiated martial arts amphibians. I've written the following as open to some options, so we can go with whatever you like best. Options: Ashley is best suited in this scenario to historical Paris or Italy, but can definitely do modern NY or wevs. Ashley's a human from a vampire canon but can definitely come in vampire flavor if preferred for the meme.]

Ashley was several hours past being hopelessly lost.

From his family's ancient subterranean crypts, he'd wandered forth into the forgotten, eldritch catacombs of the city, and followed that into the winding sewer systems. Curiosity, loneliness, and hunger had driven him from his family's remote estate, and it had simply never occurred to Ashley that better luck might be had aboveground. The crypts were soothing to him, and the twisting passages of the underworld entranced him.

And yet, a young man too spoiled and sheltered to know the basics of self-sustenance, alone and orphaned, he had wandered too far without finding anything, and had exhausted and trapped himself in a lightless, hopeless maze deep below the city.
