Which is like the Dragon Age with less dragons. Parties, drinking, bad decisions, murder... Wait, what? Well, ignore that last one okay? No need to get the cops involved. It's still set in the 1920s, but there's magic, fantasy, hard work actually getting you somewhere... Unbelievable, we know. Still, it's fun to pretend, right? 4. MISC Choose your own adventure! WHO ARE YOU? 1. THE RICH You're rich as balls, whether you're new money or old money or like 150 years ago but not enough to be old money. ANYWAY, you're the financier of all this bullshit, really. You work your ass off to get nowhere and really, that sucks. Maybe you turn to a life of crime. Maybe shit goes bad before you can. Maybe your WIFE KILLS A DUDE, WHAT THE FUCK? 3. THE CRIMINAL Whether you're a small-time petty thief or a top-of-the-line mobster, here you are. Plan your crimes, work through them, rule the city...or just the dumpster. We all gotta start somewhere, right? 4. THE FUZZ Say you're a cop. You want to catch the top cat of the crime family in town but you have to work it out. Maybe you just arrested a murderess. Maybe you're a prison matron. Maybe, just maybe, you're a crooked lawyer making mad bank off of dumbasses that get themselves caught. 5. THE DISILLUSIONED You know everything is bullshit. You do, but no one listens to you. Everything is terrible and depraved and people are dying because they're being idiots but they won't listen to REASON and you have to watch the world fall down around your ears. jfc the 20s is a great era but man, premises are challenging

[He's there as an errand boy this time. Some higher powers from his home town had pretty much twisted his father's arm into action: which left the poor son of an immigrant five states away working to pay off debt. Four years in and he's not sure of all of the details, his father wouldn't tell him, but he can easily say he's as bothered by it today as he was so many years ago. He hasn't seen his family outside of a few lucky photographs back when he was thirteen; he's sixteen now. But they're alive, and that's what matters.

The company, whoever his father sold his services to, has a liquor business on the side. Lance plays look-out at nights as people smuggle their way through the back alleys and down an underground passage way near the sewers in order to reach the bar. Goes until near one in the morning after the streets clear and business men try to smuggle themselves back home without question. Lance just keeps an eye on the passage way, watches for the cops.

But in the daytime? An errand boy. Miscellaneous tasks, house help, delivering packages and letters and escorting pretty girls places, whatever they assign him to do. Whatever can pay off this debt, even if he'll be working for the next decade. If he can shoulder it to keep his siblings in school, he will. Today, he's been given two relatively simple task: try to learn the cop patterns down on 15th, and deliver a letter to a business partner who lived a few blocks down. From the descriptions he'd been given, it was going to be a hotbed for daytime smuggling, which meant they'd have to be more vigilant. Lance sighs to himself as he leans on the wall, checking his pocketwatch before glancing around the area. He's got to be cool about this. It's not a challenging job, just one that requires a lot of watching.]

To say Lily hardly remembers how it started is a lie. Sometimes she pretends she doesn't, coy and mock-shy, but really it's simple. Want. It's not actually as though they need the money, more the excitement. And it is exciting, isn't it? Reckless and wild and dangerous. Most people only know the sharp edges of James Potter and Lily Evans, but they know each other better, from soft underbellies to gentleness to iron will.

Wanted criminals, she thinks sometimes with a smile. She has a copy of one of their reward posters folded neatly among her things. The likenesses are awful. The others of them (a gang, how silly) filter in and out, but James and Lily are the constants. The faces of it, so to speak. They target small places, ones unlikely to get help in time before their escape. Sometimes the hauls are nice but other times they're small.

Today is a good day.

Today it's just them, in and out clean and to the car and gone almost before anyone outside the actual store knows anything is happening. They're driving now - well, James is driving - and Lily is settled easily in her seat, bare feet dangling out the open window with her legs crossed delicately at the ankle. Hilarious. Her hair's loose too, a wild and messy halo of flames around her head as she hums out a pleased noise, looking over at him with a sweet, sweet smile on her face.

"James," she says at length, thoughtful and mock-demure, "what do you think about maybe something bigger next time?"
