i said don't be stupid who's feeding you? giving you a place to sleep? a place on the crew? we could throw you overboard if we didn't want you would you call that surviving? show some appreciation
[ He purposely makes him wait nine and a half minutes before showing his face, and even when he sees him, he's not exactly thrilled. The cargo hold has never been a particularly liked spot. As it is, it feels a little... strange, but Egil just feigns nonchalance. ]
[Alex is already feeling irritable, but honestly expects nothing less from Egil. He stands with his arms crossed as he waits, his expression impassive, if somewhat surly as usual. When Egil arrives, he produces a huge, leather-bound tome and drops it heavily on top of the nearest barrel.]
[ He opens his mouth almost immediately as if he's going to protest, but it's quickly smothered down by the fact he really isn't in any position to push Alex in person. Maybe he'll just stay around for a while and see what this is actually about. ]
You really couldn't think of anything else to do down here? [ Egil might even be frowning a bit, and just to test: ] No thank you.
There's plenty of other things to do down here. Where do you want to start?
[Alex's gaze is piercing, scrutinizing Egil like maybe he can get some answers if he looks hard enough. He chooses not to rise to the bait, having expected at least some resistance. For some reason the kid (hardly two years his junior, but a kid in his eyes nonetheless) seems dead set on being as obstinate as possible, so it would be foolish to assume he's going to be anything less now.]
You're the one who asked me to come here. Maybe you should tell me what else there is to do.
[ Now he's just being obstinate, disliking how easily Sorin had just decided to hand him over to Alex as if he didn't have a say in the matter, and sometimes, Egil questions why he's even here. He's still fighting the same way he'd been back home, which isn't going to cut it in such an enclosed space. He crosses his arms. ] If I do whatever you want, are you going to keep me around?
If that's what you want. [Sorin handed him over to Alex because that's where Egil can learn the most. Egil can pout all he likes, but Alex isn't budging, the clipped tones of his accent making him sound all the more stern. There's no need to fight here, which Egil might see if he ever bothers to give them half a chance.]
I brought you here to teach you something. If you want to jump ship the next time we dock, then that's up to you. I don't care. But you need to pull your weight while you're here. Understood?

it's no different than everything i've always been told
and that was before i chose this dumb boat
thank you for letting me stay
is that what you want to hear?
no subject
you don't seem to have much of a survival instinct
we all came here to get away from something you know
no subject
i know what i'm doing
but if you want to know you'll have to ask nicely
no subject
what is it exactly that you think you're doing
[yes that's him asking nicely]
no subject
[ That's him declining politely. ]

why are you so defensive
what do you actually want
i don't mean from us or the ship
no subject
it's none of your business
i'll do what i have to but that's it
if you want something from me you should just say it now
no subject
but if you're honest about doing something
come meet me in the cargo bay
no subject
fine
but don't expect me to stay if i don't feel like it

[Alex will give him about ten minutes to get his skinny ass down to the cargo hold.]

What did you want to show me?

I'm going to teach you to do inventory.
[Just try to bolt, Egil. Just try it.]
