SNOWED IN

The Snowed In Meme
You were just having a normal day out when an angelical snow shower hits you... hard. And now you're trapped with someone else until it passes by. Are you at a cafe? A bookstore? School? In the middle of crime-fighting? Location, duration and snow intensity are all up to you!

Alright, that's a story you're going to have to tell me, [ he decides as he reaches out and takes Luke's hands in his own (even the robot one, yes, he forgets all the time) to help rub feeling back into them. ] What the hell is a tauntaun? Did you get eaten or was it a really unfortunate survival day?

Ugh, suns, it was the worst. A tauntaun is this.. furry snow-lizard the Alliance used as mounts on Hoth. [ his fingers creep up jim's wrist, sliding beneath the sleeve of his coat. ] I was on patrol and I was attacked by a wampa, then dragged to its cave, where it was probably going to tear me apart and eat me. I managed to wound it and escape, but I fainted before I got very far. [ it had been pretty horrifying at the time, of course, but now he's just grateful he hadn't died out there. ] --Han went out in a blizzard to find me, but his tauntaun died before he could make it back with me.
[ his lips quirk back up, brows arching. ]
While he was putting the shelter together, he cut open the tauntaun and pushed me into it to keep me from freezing, too. He likes to remind me every now and then.
[ he pauses, then nods toward the entrance to the cave. ] The cold doesn't bother you so much, does it?

Gross, but very smart. [ He notices Luke attempting to hide in his jacket sleeve - what are you doing, you dork - and laughs quietly. ] It's definitely freezing but I'm used to it. Come here. [ He positions Luke in front of him and curls his arms around him, giving him full impact of the fire and a human heater. Also he can still hide his hands if he wants. ]

[ being a desert native is terrible when you're on a planet like hoth-- or like this one. he hates the cold, the charm of snow had worn off within the first week of experiencing it, and he'd kind of hoped to put frozen wastelands behind him. not that this is a wasteland, precisely, but it's certainly frozenish. he is, therefore, only too glad for jim to reposition and then curl around him, tucking his arms in to fully maximize his ability to retain heat.
he tips his head against jim with a short noise of contented pleasure, eyes slipping shut. much better. ]
I don't think I'll ever get used to it. The only good thing about the cold is body heat. If I'm still here when you retire, we're definitely living in a desert.

[ But also still really charming. Jim knows he shouldn't think that, not really, since he's well aware of the war-torn reality of Luke's galaxy. But still. Then, ]
You're out of luck, [ he laughs. ] I'm never retiring.
[ The tiniest hint of the dark humor that takes over Jim sometimes; he'd rather die on the job than have to deal with life after, honestly. But maybe he'll just stay on and teach at the Academy or something, when he gets too old to feasibly continue to command in action. ]
I do own a house in the Mojave desert, though.

he huffs an answering laugh, reaching up to curl his hands loosely around the other man's arms. ] You say that now, but when we're both in our eighties and creaking when we walk, I absolutely reserve the right to complain as often as I want about space making my joints ache.
[ not that he particularly expects to live that long, though he hopes they both do. and assuming he isn't.. home by then. he's been here with jim just long enough now that he's not even sure that the enterprise isn't his home now. ]
Next time the Enterprise has to visit Earth, let's go there. [ a beat, then he laughs. ] I never thought I'd miss the desert.
no subject
Deal, [ he says with a soft laugh, about visiting the desert. ] I've never actually been there.
[ Christopher Pike's family home - he's not even sure when Chris had last been back, if at all over the last dozen odd years of his life. He was like Jim; not a homebody. ]
It is really cold.

--well, anyway. ]
Well, I've never been to Earth's deserts, so it'll be an experience for both of us, I guess. It can't be as unforgiving as Tatooine, anyway.
[ he grins at the complaint, then, pressing even closer. ] Yeah, it is. [ a pause, then he pushes back up onto his toes, brushing his mouth over jim's fondly. ] Don't we have one of those insulating blankets?
