The Wrong Recipient Meme

Oops. It happens to all of us. In a hurry, kind of drunk, too tired – for whatever reason, you've sent a text to the wrong recipient and it's up to you to do damage control.

1. talk dirty | "baby, you were such a stud yesterday"
Texting is a great way to make your partner spend the rest of their meeting thinking about exactly how steamy action was last night... Unless you sent it to the wrong number, of course. How to explain that one?

2. those dates | "Don't forget lunch at 2! :-)"
Easiest way to arrange meetings, confirming them or just saying thanks for a good time is by cell. Even easier? To screw it up when the invitation reaches the wrong person... Or perhaps your mishap lands you an entirely new date!

3. anger management | "OMFG, you really are an asshole!"
They’ve pissed you off royally, so someone deserves a piece of your mind. Poor recipient, having to put up with a dressing-down of that magnitude. Especially if it wasn't actually intended for them.

4. my condolences | "Jane, I'm so sorry about your aunt."
Someone lost a relative, got broken up with or didn't get the grades they'd hoped for, so you quickly text them your heartfelt sympathy. Let's just hope that the recipient actually has lost their aunt...

5. well done | "I heard about it from my mom. You go, girl!"
They aced their exams, just got published or they had a baby. Something definitely deserving of your congratulations. Hopefully the one receiving it will appreciate the recognition of something they probably didn't do.

6. auto correct | "Dad says we're having pussy tonight."
A completely ordinary message. The concert was amazing, you're running late... Autocorrect just happened to change one little word into something completely different. Something that’s even more difficult to decipher for the wrong recipient.

It sounded like something that Spike would say.

Good to know my sense of self has been compromised by a British troll-pire. [ Unamused. ] I know texting doesn't really convey tone that much but -- you really couldn't tell the difference between me and Spike? Are you sure you're not drunk?

Why would I be drinking?

[ Deadpanned flat tone. ] Because of Spike?

I know I have my difficulties with him, but it's not enough to drive me to drink.

Hey, just checking. [ But then she worries about the stress levels being soberish. ] So, um -- everything's okay on your end, right? Nothing extra-specially ucky?

Nothing that I can't handle. What about you?

Nothing I can't handle. Oh - aside from Dawn's um. Boy. Chasing problem, but... That's kind of an issue that has to be learned.

Boy? What boy? [He'll listen to girly gossip if it excuses his little mistake earlier.]

Try boy-zuh. Plural. It's like a never ending cycle of who's cutest from day to day.

...She doesn't think I'm cute does she?

I don't think she's that ready to give up on life. [ She means that in a jealous sister way. ] Current fixation is our favorite one-eyed general type.

[It's okay. He's just double checking since he remembers a few of the ~~horrible~~ times where he offered to babysit for Buffy and babysitting involved watching the Nutcracker while Dawn performed a few of the moves before trying to get him involved as well.

Yep. Xander. [ It's a thing. ] Childhood crushes die hard, I guess.

Are they...together?

I try my best to not acknowledge all of the obvious pointers to yes. They're not out and official about it. But um. Yeah. Flags. Of red. Everywhere.

When did this begin?

[ She makes an incoherent sound of absolute non-knowing. ] No idea. I mean none. It's all -- It's Dawn. And it's Xander! And is that weird? Is it weird to think it's weird? Am I being a bad friend-slash-sister?

[Is he supposed to know? This is his first ever gossip-y girl talk conversation.] Uh, no?

I know it's...strange, beyond belief, actually. But she's your sister and he's one of your best friends. [Begrudgingly.] Xander's a good guy. And wouldn't you rather she be with him then a complete stranger who may take her for granted?

Like the Thricewise she got mixed up with? Yeah, I would. It's just -- it's... Xander! And he's always had this big brother sort of thing with her and now it's all... Jerry Springery.

It's not that bad.

I guess not. Just. [ Grumblehuffgruntandothersounds. ] What if they hurt each other and it makes everything all awkward and there's damage control and -- I mean it wouldn't be the first time there were crazy love triangle drama things in my group of friends, but Dawn's my sister. Sides might need to be taken. I am in no way prepared for that.
