the USERNAME meme

Journal names. They're something we all think about, and that we often try to make as fittingly torturous to our characters as possible. Isn't it nice that our characters never have to know they're wandering around with that horrible label attached to them?

...wouldn't it be fun if they did?

RULES

1 Your character is communicating with others through a journal community, just like how we're using them, and they are perfectly aware of that fact. Whether they think that's normal or not is totally up to you.

2 The also know that when they signed on to this community, they were automatically assigned a name that supposedly has something to do with their personality and/or history. They didn't have any say in what that name was going to be, they're just stuck with it.

3 Make a post with your character's reaction to seeing what their own username is. Do they think it fits? Do they hate it with a passion? Are they downright confused?

4 Comment to other people's posts with your character's reactions to everyone else's usernames. If they know the other character, they might have good reason to laugh at them or feel sorry for them. If they don't, this could lead to some pretty interesting first impressions, don't you think?

5 If you want to use a name that's different from your actual journal name, just mark that in your post. No need to create a whole new journal just to make your character's life worse for one meme. ;)

[Seriously, in what universe is that not a thing. A thing that would make any reasonable person freak out.]

And that's not very much, is it? Just a little contact, Neku. Are you really that adverse to it?

[Maybe not in general, but Joshua knows how much his proximity makes Neku bristle, and he's using it to his advantage.]

If I say I am, will you let go?

[He's not all that good with contact as it is, and the fact that it's Joshua isn't exactly helping.]

[He pretends to consider.]

No. But if you ask and say please, I might think about it.

[He's going to take a pin and stab Joshua in the face with it if this keeps up. Or he's going to try, at least.

The next part is bitten out, tone low;]

Please, Joshua, let go of my hand and please never hold it again.

You don't sound very sincere...but, all right.

[He's had his fun, for the most part, and let's go of Neku's hand.]

Better?

[Oh, good. He'll just be putting space between them so that Joshua can't do that again.]

Much better, yes.

All that over just a little touch? My, it doesn't take much to get you worked up, does it?

[Not when it's you, Neku thinks, though he - probably wisely - doesn't say that. Instead;]

I don't like being touched all that much.

[Which isn't exactly a lie, anyway. He's better with it since everything happened, but he still prefers to keep physical contact to a minimum. Particularly when it's coming from Joshua.]

[very wisely doesn't say that. It's just the kind of thing Joshua would jump on and twist around for his benefit.]

Well, I can't say I'm surprised. But even still, a little hand-holding shouldn't be the end of the world.

It's not the end of the world. Just didn't like it.

Do you blush over everything you don't like?

[Nope, he's not letting that part slide.]

It's a perfectly normal reaction!

[And there it is again, too. Right up to his ears, just like before.]

Like right now? I didn't even say much, and you're already embarrassed.

[He laughs again. It really is endless amusement for him.]

Who says I'm embarrassed? Maybe this is just because you're so irritating.

[More like both.]

I don't know. It doesn't seem like you're flushing out of anger to me.

[And that's obviously what counted.]

What does it seem like to you, then?

[Let's add another point to 'places Neku's going to steer the conversation against all better judgement'.]

[Oh, Neku, will you ever learn?]

Like you're embarrassed or flustered, of course.

Why the hell would I be flustered by you?

It could be for any number of reasons.

[He shrugs, idly. No straight answer, nope, not from him.]

But you don't look angry as much as uncomfortable, which is why I think you are flustered.

Maybe I'm just uncomfortable around you because, I don't know, you shot me?

Are you back on that?

[Joshua heaves a long sigh.]

If I hadn't, where would you be, hm?

[As if he ever really got off of that.]

Not having died and not stuck dealing with you?

Well, yes, but you wouldn't have friends and the life you have now either, would you? See how things work themselves out?

[He's grateful for the friends, true. Still.]

Doesn't change the fact that it's pretty reasonable to be edgy around the guy who shot you.
