Warning: Be aware that this meme deals with dark subjects like slavery and may also contain non-consensual/dubiously consensual sex, violence, and kink.

SLAVES

1. The Newbie - This is your very first auction and you don't quite know what to expect. Hopefully you remember your training and don't disgrace yourself in front of your new master. Hopefully someone thinks you're worth buying at all.

2. The Oldtimer - You've been bought and sold and bought again so many times. You've seen it all before and don't think this time is going to be much different. In fact, the only real anxiety you've got is whether or not someone's going to pay for a more than slightly used slave.

3. The Pet - You're a pleasure slave. A bed warmer. A decorative piece of artwork. You're meant to look pretty and be pleasing and not much else.

4. The Guard - Your master hired you because of your ability to swing a sword or shoot a gun, not your looks.

5. The Escape Artist - Somehow you always manage to squirm out of your master's chains. Too bad you seem to get caught after a while. Maybe your next daring escape will be permanent. Then again, maybe your next master has special ways of keeping you locked up.

6. The Undercover - You aren't a slave at all, you're just pretending to be one. Why? Well that's up to you. Either way, your cover is blown if you don't act the part.

7. The Specialist - You have a skill that no one else has. Something rare and valuable. Something your master needs more than anything else.

MASTERS

1. The Customer - You've owned slaves before and this trip to the market is nothing new to you. Still, you're hoping to find something worth your while.

2. The Gift - Someone bought a pet for you, isn't that nice of them? Or maybe it isn't so nice. Did you even want a slave in the first place? Well you're stuck with one now.

3. The Giver - You're selecting a slave for someone else, and they need to be perfect. Perhaps you'd better test them out first to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

4. The Trainer - You specialize in taming unruly slaves and making them over into perfect, obedient, well-trained pets.

5. The Rebel - You hate the idea of slavery, but the system isn't going to go away any time soon, so the next best thing is to buy up any slave you can get your hands on and free them, right?

6. The Companion - You want someone to be with you always, someone you can talk to and depend on, someone who will never leave your side. It's a good thing that money can buy that these days.

7. The Undercover - You're not actually a Master. You're at the auction for an entirely different reason. Maybe it's special policework, maybe you're trying to hunt down a certain someone. Either way, your cover is blown unless you act the part.

As always, feel free to use a combination of scenarios or make up your own if you have other ideas.

"Not really. I can suppress it a bit with drugs." It worked well enough on the street, enough to keep her from draining anything too badly, or discharging in the middle of a crowd. "I absorb electricity. And then-" It crackled with a violent snap between her fingers, and she shifted so that she was further away from her new master. Shocking him on top of ruining his car wasn't gong to leave a good first impression.

"Drugs. I can do drugs. What are you used to?" It did make him think that it sounded like an unconscious thing. He wondered if she'd tried meditation?

"Downers. Valium mostly." It was almost certainly unconscious, but Noriko had very little understanding of her powers or how they worked. She'd spent most of her time since they'd manifested trying to deal with them rather than understand them. "It slows it all down."
purpleintheface: (that doesn't sound good)

Wow. "How the hell were you getting Valium on the street?" Sounded like she had some skills besides manipulating electricity.

The things I've been googling for these threads man, lol

It wasn't particularly easy. Well not the finding them, that part was easy enough, prescription drugs were easier than the harder stuff a lot of the time, and they were comparatively cheap. But not cheap enough. She'd gotten herself in all sorts of trouble to keep up her supply, until eventually her debt had gotten bad enough that she wound up here.

"Knew a guy. Not a great guy, it turns out."
purpleintheface: (well how do you like that)

Please don't judge me for my internet history, mr. FBI man

"Do tell. Also, I guess we're walking, unless we get a man with one of those wheel carts."

He got out and knocked on the driver's window and got the directions to the nearest pharmacy.

Once he was next to Noriko again, he looked up at the sky. "Nice weather, at least."

"Friend, turned dealer, turned loan shark, turned...slaver, I guess," Nori explained. That was the short version at least.

She climbed out of the car, more electricity jumping, sparking from her head to the door frame as she climbed out. She scrubbed a hand through her hair to try and dissipate the static.

She looked skyward, half expecting the heavens to break out in a torrent of rain just to spite her. "You might not want to tempt that. You know, I don't think you can just walk into a pharmacy and buy that stuff," she warned.

"Maybe most people can't." He left the rest mysterious and open-ended. He wouldn't even be buying it. He started walking at a comfortable saunter.

"What's your favorite food, Noriko?"

She kept pace about a half step behind him, looking curiously at his face. Some how she didn't doubt it. He seemed like a man who always got what he wanted. Always.

"...Omuraisu, probably?" she decided, "It's like a fried rice omelette. My mom used to make them for me and my brother."
purpleintheface: (what the bloody hell)

"That's..." which country was she from again? "Japanese? Never seen that on a japanese menu."

Then again he had no idea how to spell that, and he didn't read japanese, so he wouldn't be able to tell you what half the things at the fancy japanese menu were.

"What's your favorite thing you can actually get in New York?"

[personal profile] staticsurge 2016-09-29 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That made sense. Noriko hadn't had that much opportunity to visit Japanese restaurants in America, but from what she'd heard it didn't sound like the sort of dish they'd feature, it was more of a house hold thing, like...pancakes. Though Americans had whole restaurants devoted those.

"Pizza," she admitted with a small flush. It wasn't that impressive of an answer, "That's kind of lame, I know."

[personal profile] purpleintheface 2016-09-29 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help but wince. "Well, at least you're aware of it."

"Ever heard of Nino's Restaurant? Finest Italian place in the city. We'll go there next. They pride themselves on once selling a $1000 pizza pie, mostly inflated by the cost of the caviar, and lobster."
staticsurge: (unsure)

[personal profile] staticsurge 2016-09-30 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
$1000 dollars?? Noriko looked to him in disbelief. Who would spend that much on a pizza?? You could get a hundred normal pizzas for that.

"No, I've never- Y-you know you can get a slice for like a buck, right?" she checked. What would lobster and caviar even taste like on a pie? "Is it good?"
purpleintheface: (who's the real victim?)

"Not sure, been meaning to try. Let's find out today."

Within a few minutes, they managed to find a small pharmacy store front on the street. There was a telltale jingle as they entered. Kilgrave went right up to the counter, an elderly Korean man was running the counter behind a bullet proof glass cage.

"Give me a bottle of Valium. Or hell, let's make it a case, shall we?" The man seemed to go kind of glassy-eyed and jumped straight to it, rummaging behind him and then depositing an entire box of valium into the drop box for Kilgrave to pull out.

He handed it to Noriko. "I can trust you not to OD on this, right? That's thirty thousand dollars straight down the hole." Not that he'd actually spent that.

[personal profile] staticsurge 2016-09-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Like with the auction, the surprise of seeing jump to do what Kilgrave said was fascinating, and prompted an amazed smile. blinked at the case in disbelief, unsure what to say. It was stealing, technically, but...no one had gotten hurt, and without them people could. At least that's what she reasoned. She wanted to see the best in her new master, and painted him then as a sort of...Robin Hood figure.

As to how he'd done it...either he was exceptional influential...or..maybe he was like her. Only with more control than Nori could ever imagine having.

"I won't," she promised, still looking taken aback. She peered through the glass at the man. "How did you-?"

"I have a way with people," he said, gesturing dismissively. "Now let's hail a cab and get us to Nino's."

He stepped outside, no cabs in sight. There was someone who was just getting into a car in front of them, however. He opened the back door and got in the seat.

"Take us to Nino's Restaurant," he said, gesturing at Surge to take the other back seat. Again, the woman in a nice suit waited patiently for her to get settled in before starting driving.

That was some way with people. Noriko gave him a look, but didn't press the phrasing. She climbed into the car, working open her case so she could take a pill before she drained this car too. "Thank you," she added belatedly, and she sounded truly grateful. None of this had gone how she expected. She wasn't sure what she expected but it wasn't this. Not Nino's, or cases of pills.

The drugs quickly began to calm her mind, and the car rolled along without any stalling, though the gage lights did flicker a little.
purpleintheface: (well how do you like that)

[personal profile] purpleintheface 2016-09-30 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
The arrival at Nino's was as strange as everything so far. They showed up at the front desk in a place that looked like it had a two month waiting list, and Kilgrave just told him to seat him, and he was happy to oblige.

So what are you having?

"I want one of those $1000 pizzas," he said.

Ah, I'm very sorry, that was just for a publicity event, it isn't a regular menu ite-

"I don't care, do it."

Of course, sorry.

"Bring a bottle of wine, something that pairs well. Money is no object." It literally wasn't.

The waiter bowed and left to somehow put this order together.

She watched all the interactions play out curiously, kept waiting for someone to refuse, but they never did. She looked around at the other dinners, people who had made their reservations months in advance and had all the cash in the world to spend on this sort of thing. A few had noticed the exchange, whispering and gossiping about the strange man.

"What if they don't have what they need to make it?" she asked. Surely if it wasn't a regular menu item they didn't just have that stuff laying around. The full extent of Kilgrave's 'way with the people' still hadn't sunk in yet.

"I suppose they'll have to go fetch it," he said. He didn't seem at all concerned.

He sits patiently, waiting for the waiter to get back with their drinks. His eyes wander around the restaurant, taking in the decor, watching the other people around them, occasionally glancing back at Noriko and appraising her thoughtfully.
