Warning: Be aware that this meme deals with dark subjects like slavery and may also contain non-consensual/dubiously consensual sex, violence, and kink.

SLAVES

1. The Newbie - This is your very first auction and you don't quite know what to expect. Hopefully you remember your training and don't disgrace yourself in front of your new master. Hopefully someone thinks you're worth buying at all.

2. The Oldtimer - You've been bought and sold and bought again so many times. You've seen it all before and don't think this time is going to be much different. In fact, the only real anxiety you've got is whether or not someone's going to pay for a more than slightly used slave.

3. The Pet - You're a pleasure slave. A bed warmer. A decorative piece of artwork. You're meant to look pretty and be pleasing and not much else.

4. The Guard - Your master hired you because of your ability to swing a sword or shoot a gun, not your looks.

5. The Escape Artist - Somehow you always manage to squirm out of your master's chains. Too bad you seem to get caught after a while. Maybe your next daring escape will be permanent. Then again, maybe your next master has special ways of keeping you locked up.

6. The Undercover - You aren't a slave at all, you're just pretending to be one. Why? Well that's up to you. Either way, your cover is blown if you don't act the part.

7. The Specialist - You have a skill that no one else has. Something rare and valuable. Something your master needs more than anything else.

MASTERS

1. The Customer - You've owned slaves before and this trip to the market is nothing new to you. Still, you're hoping to find something worth your while.

2. The Gift - Someone bought a pet for you, isn't that nice of them? Or maybe it isn't so nice. Did you even want a slave in the first place? Well you're stuck with one now.

3. The Giver - You're selecting a slave for someone else, and they need to be perfect. Perhaps you'd better test them out first to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

4. The Trainer - You specialize in taming unruly slaves and making them over into perfect, obedient, well-trained pets.

5. The Rebel - You hate the idea of slavery, but the system isn't going to go away any time soon, so the next best thing is to buy up any slave you can get your hands on and free them, right?

6. The Companion - You want someone to be with you always, someone you can talk to and depend on, someone who will never leave your side. It's a good thing that money can buy that these days.

7. The Undercover - You're not actually a Master. You're at the auction for an entirely different reason. Maybe it's special policework, maybe you're trying to hunt down a certain someone. Either way, your cover is blown unless you act the part.

As always, feel free to use a combination of scenarios or make up your own if you have other ideas.

Alek's eyes narrow. He's not going to be forthcoming, Cassandra.

Don't be rude, Alek. You're not-talking to one of the most powerful people in the world.

Actually, she finds that refreshing.

She turns to the salesman who had accompanied her. "I'll take this one," she says.

"Miss de Vries, are you certain? He's been nothing but a problem–"

"Are you questioning my judgment?" She says coldly, putting on her CEO voice.

"N-no, Miss de Vries."

She scans the barcode under his alphanumeric designation, taps a few times on her d-PAL, and the transaction is complete. The salesman, the guards, and a few heavily-armed members of her detail go in to fetch him. Just in case.

He has to be dragged to his feet, but otherwise, he offers no resistence. The Reyne family were once rather powerful, themselves, after all.

Alek's posture is straight. As he's led out past Cassandra, He looks down at her, his gaze still cold.

Well, well. He's proud, certainly. Proud and stubborn.

That's interesting. But she's beginning to wonder, in the back of her mind, if she hasn't made a mistake after all.

She goes to her limo, surrounded by her detail, and indicates that she wants her new purchase with her. After a bit of arguing with her detail - and an agreement is reached to have one sitting across from them, ready to stun him if he tries anything fishy - they settle in and take off. Daniel Carrington was a bastard, Cassandra reflected, but his antigravity technology was genius.

"You really aren't going to talk, are you?" She asks with a bit of humor in her voice. "Cat got your tongue?"

Alek climbs into the limo, sitting straight, posture immaculate. His gaze does not leave Cassandra for a moment, but he does slightly tilt his head at her words.

Cat got your tounge... amusing, considering what his family is known as.

But, no. He's not talking.

She glances at her d-PAL. "Very well then...Alek Reyne. You don't have a history...a recent acquisition. Taken as prisoner in the recent South African conflict." She looks back at him, her gaze softening. "I'm sorry." She means it. Jesus, that had been a mess.

Sentiment was something she could ill afford most of the time, but it would probably help to show him a little humanity to crack through his shell.

A slight twitch of his right hand, a slight narrowing of the gaze, but, other than that, Alek Reyne remains silent, still.

His shell is a tough one to crack. A trained soldier, in a family of soldiers. The Reynes were quite well-known once upon a time.

Cassandra smiles a little to herself. The stone man cracked - just a hair, but he cracked.

"Good. I'm in the market for a bodyguard, Mr. Reyne. You have a choice here; I won't force you. But believe me when I say that being the CEO's personal bodyguard has significantly more perks than just being just any facility guard. If you'd prefer the latter, however, I can be accommodating."

And there's a chuckle from the older man. No words, just a low chuckle.

Surely this woman sees the absurdity of trusting a slave as a bodyguard?

She gets why he's chuckling.

"Laugh all you want, Mr. Reyne. We reward loyalty handsomely around here. And even being a personal bodyguard would not exempt you from scrutiny. Quite the contrary.

"Loyalty merits rewards - including freedom, Mr. Reyne. Disloyalty merits death."

"Then you might as well kill me now."

He speaks, his voice low, accented in a refined English. Someone with an education, or at least with the air of one.

"I pledge no loyalty that isn't deserved."

"The stone man speaks."

Cassandra smooths out the skirt of her pantsuit. "You can decide for yourself if I'm worth your loyalty; why, we've barely gotten to know each other. I'm trying to make the world better, Mr. Reyne. And that makes me a lot of enemies."
lesserlion: (jamie-sheridan-arrow-1897900)

[personal profile] lesserlion 2016-09-28 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
A hand gets raised.

"Save the spiel, ma'am. I'm not interested." People have said they're trying to make the world better countless times... And then something like South Africa happens. "All I'm saying is that you've wasted your money. I'm not interested in becoming a bodyguard."

"Then perhaps you were interested in staying in that cell?" The question is casual, asked only with a raised eyebrow. "You don't have much choice. Unless, of course, you want to go back there. But I rather doubt that's the case."

Her own accent is British and well-educated. In another life, they might have run in the same circles.

"What I want doesn't matter." Alek remarks. "Threaten me all you want. Kill me, send me back, whatever you like. I will not work for you."
dataflow: (Yeah right // chaoschick)

[personal profile] dataflow 2016-10-04 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes Cassandra laugh a little bit. "Please, Mr. Reyne. Threaten you? Kill you? What do you think I am, some kind of thug?" The CEO of dataDyne had to make some hard decisions, true, such as sending Shock Troopers to places they would almost certainly die, and the hypercorps all had bad reputations, if you bought into that sort of thing.

But the laughter dies, and she gives him a look that could only be read as that of a predator circling prey. Interesting, for someone speaking to a man who could snap her in half if he so chose.

"But I'm afraid you're wrong, Alek."
