Well, the unexpected isn't entirely unexpected.

So. Who are you?

[A seemingly pointless question, but never take anything for granted...]

Very true - anything is possible with Suzumiya-san around.

[He smiles a little at the question, knowing himself well enough to be amused by the other's thought process.]

Well, my name is Koizumi Itsuki - as, I am guessing, is yours. And since you asked, that would eliminate one of us being from the other's direct future.

I suppose the next logical question would be how to find out whether we are from different universes, or whether one of us has simply been duplicated somehow.

[Fair enough.]

Hmm. Very well. What is the last coherent memory you have?

[Koizumi leans back on his elbows, a comfortable smile on his face - although the other would probably recognize in that smile that however interesting it was to have another Koizumi here, he was very uneasy about what it might mean.]

I helped the Agency deal with a large pocket of closed space about 30 miles to the east. I then returned here and collapsed into bed, exhausted.

Interesting.

[Which implies...]

That's not my own experience. As I've seen it, incidents of closed space have been very seldom recently.

I see. [So one of them was in an alternate or entirely new world. Koizumi still wasn't sure if that was good or bad.]

The question then remains whether I am in your home universe or you are in mine. Shall we call Arakawa? He should be able to confirm whether or not there was an instance of closed space last night.

[He reaches for his phone, only to find it is not where he left it.]

Would you do the honors? Although I am already beginning to guess at the result.

[He nods and takes out his own phone, making a call. Predictably, Arakawa is very efficient about confirming his story.]

As you suspected.

[He simply says. He's getting a feeling that there's not a need for as many words as usual.]

Very well. The date in your world was...?

I realize this is literally a year late, sorry about that, feel free to ignore this if you want

Of course. [This could be very useful, in many situations. They could act in concert with little difficulty or even need for communication, and being in two places at once could be invaluable to both keeping Haruhi entertained, and keeping the world safe when she was unsatisfied.

But however much he might appreciate having two of him around, the unfortunately truth was that his own universe seemed to be without an Itsuki Koizumi at the moment, and that could easily put it in danger - if indeed that reality still existed.
] December 27th. And the date here?
