The fact that Han can fly his beat up pre-clone war freighter like it was a one man starfighter is only part of the equation, it's his modified scanners that tend really tend to save the day. That little bit of extra notice to prepare for a group of incoming TIE\LN's makes a huge difference. And the cruisers? Phttt. They were just too slow to keep up with him.
Though Han makes a bit of a bitter face when she brings up being 'hired'. If he wasn't so desperate for money, he would have never taken a job with the Rebels. They have a habit of not paying up when the time comes. He'd sooner trust the Hutts when it comes to a payday - greedy and stingy as they are.
"I'm going to divert some of the power from the non-essential systems to the sublight engines for a while. Should help us get to Garel faster."

Then there's the matter of his payment. Of course they have the money- not much, but enough to cover his fees. Though if they get into a scuffle with the Empire, well... That'll be something that would probably spike his rates.
"I'll keep looking at the Hyperdrive. Maybe we'll be lucky and the damage is minimal."

The Ghost was pretty nice from what he could tell. And like his own ship, probably had it's share of special modifications. He'd love the chance to race Hera, truth be told.
"Idealists." Han scoffs from the controls of the YT-1300 as he makes his decisions on actually what to shut off to give them more juice. He just knows if he drops the guns or the shields, that's the precise moment the TIE's will swoop in from out of nowhere.
"You'll be lucky if you end up run down and creditless somewhere. More than likely they'll just crush you." He says, as his mind shifts through memories of the unpleasant variety. "You can't win."

Still, her face sours as he speaks. Idealist, she supposes, is close enough of a moniker to her. She always had been. The daughter of one rebellion went serving another. And even moreso, her involvement with the Jedi have shaped her. Hope, it burns as bright as a blue giant in her chest.
"I thought smugglers had a better appreciation for beating the odds than most." She doesn't look back at him as she speaks, investigating some of the wires in the drive. It's not a problem with energy transfer...
"... We have to fight. We can't just bow our heads and pretend that everything is fine in the Galaxy underneath this emperor." She bites her lip as she thinks about how so many of her clan are in slavery under the Hutts. How entire planets had been wiped out to demonstrate a lesson. How the Jedi were hunted to this day by shadowy agents of the empire. Her hand grips tighter to the wrench.
"Maybe it doesn't bother a smuggler like you, but I cannot stand aside and do nothing as the Empire allows the galaxy to be run into ruin."

Some of that shouldn't surprise. It's an old ship. The original Corellian parts that it was made with are starting to become harder to find in shops now. It's had multiple owners or had different people tinkering with her insides anyway. Some of the repairs and modifications were more hastily done than others. If she looks really closely, though, and she can see enough to know which changes were the most recent ones ... she'll not be able to help, but notice that Han's work is careful and deliberate.
He's a man that loves his ship.
He just ... doesn't have enough money to keep up with all the maintenance, seemingly.
The generalizations get under his skin. She thinks she knows him because of what he does. Like he's some kind of bad person for wanting to see his debts paid and keep his ship flying. He's seen some ugliness from the Empire, sure, but he was screwed over far worse by a commander in the Alliance.
"The one thing that this smuggler has learned about life is that nothing is black and white." Han pushes on the throttle and they'll feel the ship lurch forward from the extra power Han diverted to the engines. "And that you gotta look out for yourself because nobody else will."
