[ Jim snorts lightly. Spock would probably say sympathy is illogical, but Jim knows better. I watched my planet die. I am emotionally compromised. Jim has felt the ferocity of Spock's feelings. ]

I've never been good at faking my feeling anyway.

We'll also need to do some in-depth stellar cartography to find out what passing celestial bodies would've formed gravity wells that could throw any of them off their path, or even have destroyed them.
