the death meme

the death meme
(CONTENT WARNING. This is a meme about death and may deal with suicide, depression, extreme violence, illnesses, etc.)
This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.
CAUSE OF DEATH
1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.
2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!
3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.
4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.
5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.
6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?
7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?
TIME LEFT
1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.
2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)
3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.
4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.
5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?
RELATIONSHIP
1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.
2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.
3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.
4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?
5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?
6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.
HOW IT WORKS:
1. Post your character and preference
2. Respond to others.
3. Tell the person what you need to tell them before you bite it.
4. Have fun!

So instead of doing either, he asked: "Do you know how we got here?" he couldn't remember, all he could remember was being there, in that strange arena, mocked up like some sort of desolate cityscape, ravaged by explosions, and knowing, right down to his bones, that everyone else there would kill him if he didn't kill them first.

Kurt cringed yet again then drew his head back from Angel's, his other limb lingering against the nape of his neck. "We had gotten a distress call and without planning a little further ahead, we did what we always do - dove in headfirst." He applied a little more pressure beneath his nose, brilliantly colored eyes slipping shut at the wave of dizziness that overcame him.

Mostly he was concerned that he didn't remember it, "But how did we end up here, fighting each other, I mean." Something that the crowd was getting restless for them to start up again, not that he was paying that any attention.

"The distress call turned into an ambush," Kurt paused, teeth clenching together before he finally withdrew his other hand and moved to slide off the winged mutant. He'd heard the masses starting to get restless; maybe it was time to do something about it.
"Hit me." The blue-skinned mutant crouched on all fours, drawing himself up enough to brace for the impact that he was demanding. "Make it count so our spectators are satiated for a bit longer."
no subject
He didn't let himself think about the demand or the consequences of it, or the fact that Kurt was still bleeding. It was easier to just roll with the instinct that Kurt was still the enemy, that if he wanted to get hit, Angel was going to. Which was why he shoved, twisting himself out from under the other and smacking him in the chest and shoulder with the flat of his forearm. Not a punch, as he didn't have enough room to swing for one, and not just a block, either, but a full-armed shove, pushing himself upright again a moment later, freeing the wing that had been crumpled beneath him when they'd landed.

The cobalt-tinted mutant blinked in an attempt to clear the stars from his vision, both arms moving to quickly push himself up to to all fours. He stayed like that for a moment, resting on hands and knees and taking the chance to catch his breath, spitting out a mouthful of blood that had leaked into his throat in the process. Thankfully, their audience found this pleasing enough by granting them with more cheering and Kurt shook his head in disgust. "Everything happened so quickly - arriving for the rescue, the attack, the capture ... Things are a bit dark after that, but then here we are, entertaining a crowd."
Of course he wasn't bitter - not at all.
no subject
He was, slowly but surely, leaning towards the former, but it would take a while yet before his mind was fully clear again, and it was entirely likely that Kurt didn't have that much time, not that Angel was any sort of medical expert.
Instead he just pushed himself to his feet, head tilting as he let the noise of the crowd wash over him, he'd been in this situation before, he'd lived it for over a year, he could figure out how to get out of it.
annnd now i'm just imagining both of them dying. ow my feelers
Finally, after what seemed like far too long, the smaller of them moved to get to his feet, doing his best to not stumble despite the loss of his equilibrium as he stepped toward Angel once more.
The loss of his usually nimble movements made it harder for him to do so, but he straightened up and bounded ahead, swinging his tail out at the other mutant in an attempt to return the strike to his torso. There was intent behind the movement, but nothing near deadly.
Nooo why you do this to me? (but now we gotta)
He braced himself, squaring his stance bringing an arm up to block that tail, only to have Kurt colliding with him again, sending him sprawling backwards into the tumbled concrete rubble behind him, he cried out -in surprise as much as pain- at the dull stab of something puncturing his side, below where his ribs might have deflected it. A rod of steel rebar, pierced through his side from back to front, one hand batted at it reflexively and ineffectively, brow furrowing in confusion.
'cause i'm a terrible human being. (of course we do and this worked out well)
With the blocking of the appendage, he took the chance to force his frame against Angel's when they went diving backward, both hands curling at the winged warrior's shoulders once more. The distressed howl caught his attention instantly, his head forcing upward and catching sight of exactly why Angel had made the noise. "Nein, I ..." A sudden hush fell over the crowd, making the blood pounding in his ears far more unbearable than he could imagine.
The flood of metallic in his mouth brought on his own confused expression, his hands withdrawing to hover at his sides as he went to pull away, found that he couldn't then finally noticed why. He tipped his head down, dilated golden iris' staring at where the metal bar had so easily cracked past a rib and rammed straight through his chest.
At an agonizingly slow pace, Kurt's head lifted until his gaze reached Angel's face, sticky crimson pouring past his lips, eyebrows knitting together in bewilderment. "Angel ...?"
ugh, and now I need a kleenex at work
He swallowed back a wet cough of his own, shaking his head, wings still spasming beneath them as if trying to lever him upright again. He hadn't noticed the sudden silence of the crowd, mostly because he knew his hearing was already starting to go, everything sounded faraway and tinny, like it was underwater, or in another room, "Just, stay. Let me..." His brow furrowed, not even entirely sure what he was asking even as the hand at Kurt's cheek drifted to his shoulder, resting heavily there instead, trying to draw him closer.
ffffff AGHHH /attempts to shove tissues through screen
Reaching with the other limb, he traced the markings along the blond's forehead, down his cheeks and all the way to his chin as if trying to memorize his features. Clouded eyes flickered beneath blue lids and dark lashes, attempting to stay open, though it was only long enough to see Angel's brow furrowing. "I'm not going to leave you." With that, he allowed himself to go lax at the hand on his shoulder, the steel impaling his body sliding deeper with a sickeningly saturated crack until he was flush with the other male's form.
I was gonna leave it there, but then I couldn't
He made a faint, inarticulate sound as Kurt collapsed against him, because while he couldn't hear that crunch, he could feel it, grinding against his own rib cage. Even Kurt's slight weight enough to press the breath out of him once more, he tried -and failed- to breathe in again, instead just hiccuping faintly, his own mouth stained red despite his best efforts to swallow back the blood and bile simmering up in his throat.
Though moments later it ceased to matter as he finally fell still, even the spasmodic movements of his wings stilling, leaving the limbs splayed at odd angles beneath them, his arm draped along Kurt's back, keeping him close even at the end.
... /just. rips out own heart/ didn't need it.
Between his gasping breaths, Kurt began to pray, the memorized lines of the Lord's prayer falling freely from his lips. He paused, long enough to wince at Angel's faint noise then continued, his head shifting to rest his ear near the hand over the winged warrior's fading pulse. The steady thudding began to get softer then finally halted altogether along with all movement, causing tears to well up and stream freely down his cheeks.
The cobalt-tinted male wanted so badly to lift his head, to see Angel's face one last time, but that was far too much effort. His hand curled against the others chest and his lips parted, "I l--" he stopped suddenly, the final throb of his pulse ringing in his ears, eyes rolling into the back of his skull as he fell still on Angel's chest.
Those final words may have hung unfinished in the air, but at least they were together.
