[Shepard finds it a little more difficult to open his eyes than usual. Vision unfocused, feeling slightly dizzy, and not to mention this killer headache.

Still, he doesn't let that keep him down. As he slowly sits up, he realizes that he's wearing a collared shirt- as if he'd wear that to sleep. He let's out a mumbled "what the...?" and just right when he's about to remove the blankets (he can feel that he's only wearing boxers- that is normal)...he notices a ring on his finger.

...and the sleeping lady next to him.]

[OBVIOUSLY this has some logical, practical reason behind it. Like allowing Irene access back into the country or SOMETHING, idk.

But yeah please spare him all the bells and whistles and frilly dresses and having to pass over Mycroft in favour of John as his best man and all that other nauseating sentimental BS. He's going to sign some papers and say some words and then they can go their separate ways again.

None of which explains why he's pacing in the courthouse hallway, checking his watch every so often, full of nervous energy. He half expects her not to show up at all, which only compounds the humiliation factor caused by being surrounded by young, weepy, lovey-dovey couples. And then again he'll be the fool, played by the Woman. He likes to think more highly of her at this point, but one fraction of him is always still poised for betrayal. That way, if it happens, he can say nothing was lost; he knew it all along.

He hopes today of all days is not when that fraction is proved right.]

[The road that led the both of them here has been long, winding and filled with troubles. There have always been two constants in Leon's life; knighthood and Gwen. He used to think the first was all he ever needed, despite the fact that his family never agreed. He lost count of the parade of young women who came in and out of his life, leaving no mark on him, and absolutely no will to spend his life with them.

Now when he finally decided his family is right it is with a woman they would never accept, the king would never accept. By taking her as wife he might very well be sentencing himself to her social standing, he might be sacrificing his position among the knights - his very knighthood. By all accounts this is madness, but he finds he just...doesn't care. A part of him wants to believe his service past will grant him some mercy - he's marrying for heaven's sake, not committing treason - but he's prepared to face the consequences, whatever they may be.

He finishes saddling up the horse and when he looks aside at his beautiful bride to be - he knows he's making the right decision.]

Marriage hadn't made the flat any tidier, or transformed Sherlock into a people person, or cured John of his nightmares. It hadn't kept either one of them from rushing headlong into danger or stumbling into unfortunate miscommunications. But they worked. They were equals and best friends and, at the end of the day, partners. And ten years together had certainly changed both of them, in subtle ways, for the better.

It hadn't been perfect. But it was far happier than either of them had ever expected to be alone.]
