Scheherazade / Harem Shipping Meme
Straight out of the Arabian Nights, or any variety of the spin-offs and spoofs since, in a beautiful and fantastical realm of magic and djinn. You may be the great ruler, prince, or sultana of the realm, or you may be the tribute, captive, or arranged marriage spouse brought before that ruler.


Scenarios:
1. Arranged Marriage - You’re both royals or nobles of some variety, but one of you has been sent far from home to be wedded to a stranger in a foreign land.
2. Ambition - You’re just one beauty in a harem of dozens—or hundreds—but you’re determined to stand out, to earn the exclusive attention of the ruler, and to take your place by their side as the ruler of this land.
3. Scheherazade - One night with the king (or queen). Perhaps your one-night spouse had their heart broken, like in the story. Perhaps they’re simply a monster, or they have other motives. They may kill you in the morning, unless you can convince them to delay, by at least one more day.
4. Tribute - Perhaps your land was conquered, or perhaps you’ve been sent here to secure an alliance. Either way, this wasn’t your idea, and you aren’t particularly happy about it.
5. Within the Harem - Both characters are residents of the harem. You hardly see the ruler, and they don’t matter. What does matter is the friendship—or love—that you have found within the harem, and, possibly, your plans for escape.
6. Outside the Harem - You’ve fallen in love with someone you shouldn’t. A guard, a servant, or someone outside the palace entirely. But in order to be with them, you’re going to have to break all the rules.
7. Arabian Nights - Wildcard scenario, play any elements from the Arabian Nights that you please. Magic carpets, powerful djinn, curses and treasure!

Night has fallen and, yet again, his husband is not present. Husband. The word tastes as bitter in his mind as it does on his tongue, and Loki cannot sleep for the rage that causes him to tremble in bed. He rises and wraps himself in a silken robe, crossing the room to stand at the balcony as he stares out at the unfamiliar sky, locating Jotunheim after a long moment of consideration.

This is not what he had expected when he was told he was to be married to Thor. Heir to the throne, crown prince, thunderer... Loki had expected passion and, perhaps, rage. Loki had expected strength, bruises, and bites. He had not expected this quiet courtesy Thor shows him, smiling and polite whether they are alone or in public.

It's infuriating. Their quarters are one and the same, yet Thor bids him sweet dreams each night comes back in the morning, smelling of the perfumed oils in the harem, and it's all Loki can do to clench his fists and remind himself it would destroy the tenuous peace they've finally achieved if he froze the entire wing of sluts Thor seems to prefer in his bed.

Loki sits at the window-seat until the sky begins to brighten, turning pink with the approaching down. It is about time for Thor to return.

Lady Margaret of Arctis Tor was not particularly fond of being thrust into an arranged marriage, but securing the alliance between the summer kingdom of Dorne, and her own wintery realm was absolutely necessary, to defend themselves against their mutual enemies. And so, reluctantly, she agreed to make the journey to Dorne--deciding that it would be better to go willingly and make the best of it than to be delivered unto Oberyn by force.

After all, if Oberyn was as powerful, and handsome as rumors described him...perhaps it wouldn't be such a terrible arrangement after all.

[ooc: Taking some creative liberties with the AU, because Molly is lady in waiting to Queen Mab in her canon, and I can't help but be amused that GRRM named his desert prince Oberyn. Perhaps this whole arrangement was concocted by Mab & Titania? But whatever works for you!]

The foreign diplomat looked her over, lust obvious as his gaze trailed over her, but also a touch of contempt which was reflected in his voice as he spoke. "So you're the new sweetener for this deal." But the contempt wasn't addressed to her at all, but to the people who sent her.

She'd been given only a minor briefing before she was hired - not a lot was known of the trade delegation from this strange land, bringing wonders. But what was known was that the first couple of nights he'd partied as if he'd fit right in. Then after the Night Court was explained he'd gone to House Valerian on his third evening. It had taken him less than quarter of an hour to declare it no fun at all. He'd then asked the girl he'd hired about her tattoo, asked how much was left on her Marque, paid it all off, and stalked out, eyes blazing like a really angry Shaharazai. And the value of the trade deals had immediately halved after that.

"So, Fade." He frowned at her, eyes dark as he butchered her name in a calculated insult. "Why do they think you'll be a better sweetener better for me than Valerian House was?"

Laurent had only barely secured his throne, through a bloody civil war and nearly at the loss of his own life. His uncle was still out there, no doubt working on another plan to seize the throne, to undermine Laurent's rule and destroy his people.

He was tired, but he had to hold audience, to conduct government, to listen to his people. Sprawled in his throne with a distinctly lazy posture--one leg stretched out, head on hand--he watched the people brought in before him.

He's the no-nonsense, workaholic advisor to the ruler/king, so available for falling in love with someone he shouldn't, be that a member of the harem, his boss, or someone his boss is supposed to be marrying.]

[A face amidst many. That was what Yukimura felt like. On the other hand it didn't bother him that much as it meant that he often got left on his own, free to do what he like. Within the walls of the harem of course. Ever since he had arrived he had never left the palace and while he missed the sounds of the town at times, he made do with the garden. And by observing the people moving around the palace.

Few people ever saw past his kind smile and soft, effeminate features. Everyone saw him as harmless, but behind that smile he hid a sharp mind. In reality he did not belong shut in, he belonged out in the world to learn everything there was to learn. He belonged out where things changed and not in the harem where everything stayed the same.

But that was a life that had escaped him. At least he got treated well. And the life in the harem was an easy on. There really was nothing he needed to worry about. The man waved to the guards and the heavy doors to the throne room opened and two other guards escorted in a young man that looked the be around the same age as he were. The chains around the others wrist fully told Snow White that this was his intended gift. How very interesting. He could not help the small smile tugging at his lips.]

How pleasant to be given something interesting for once.

[Snow White had no idea if his gift could understand him. If he were a prisoner from the south he doubted it as they so often called them ruthless barbarians. For now it didn't really matter as he still had matters to attend to and his gift got escorted away again, knowing that he had been accepted by the prince.

It wasn't until later when he got permission to leave the court that he headed over for his chambers. Much like he expected the other were in his chambers. Where else? The windows were too narrow to escape from.]
