why have you come?
1. You're searching for someone. A relative, a friend, a dead lover. Someone has led you to this quiet little town.
2. An accident. You got lost in the fog, the roads fell off into chasms, you thought you saw someone in the road and crashed. Time to venture farther in for help.
3. Returning visitor. You've come here before, to the lovely little resort town, and had a beautiful time. But this second trip will be different.
4. An escape. You're running from something ... or someone. A crime you committed? Grief? Too bad you ran to the wrong place...
5. Wildcard, or make up your own!

what horrors do you encounter?
1. You just met. You've only been able to find each other, no one else in town. Stores are deserted, doors are locked, silence is everywhere. What happened here? What's going on?
2. A shuffling in the night, the fog, or in a tight dark hallway of an abandoned building. A strange creature is moving toward you. Maybe humanoid, maybe not. They can be powerful. They can be slow. They can vomit acid. Time to pick up whatever plank, knife, or gun available to you ... if you both want to live.
3. A dark secret from your past is returning to haunt you. It manifests in hallucinations, the town reaching deep inside your mind to paint the surroundings in grotesque symbolism. Yet, the other person can't seem to see what you see.
4. The walls are peeling away. Or maybe you got knocked out and just woke up to an entirely different kind of town. There are chains, rust, fans, orange light, splatters of blood. A horrific version of what used to be around you. Welcome to the Otherworld.
5. That other person with you--you see them as someone they're not. Someone from your past that you loved or feel bone-wracking guilt over. And no matter what they say, that they're not, they're someone else, you just can't help but see...
6. The town has driven you insane. The monsters, the guilt you may carry. It's all coming back to you. You need to lash out. At anything. At anyone.

*She'd come to him in the fog, mocking him, certainly not in the form of a cursed imp that he was sure she had been the last time he laid eyes on her. Midna in her true body. And then that insufferable brat had run off, leading him further into the fog. Despite the power that was granted to him, he was a sorcerer, no athlete.

Zant trailed off, still furious, as he slowed to a stop, slumped over so low that his helmet almost grazed the ground. But he could barely walk, let alone run. And the fog was all around him, the buildings half-visible through it unfamiliar and alien.*

[Her laughter is his only response as the fog and darkness around him seems to grow thicker. Out of the corner of his eyes he might catch the turquoise glow of the symbols etched into her skin or maybe the quickest of flashes of fiery hair as she seems to slip in and out of the fabric of reality.

The onslaught to his senses doesn't end there and as something reaches out of the thick mist to touch his shoulder and there are scents in the air that will no doubt stir memories of her in his mind. Just when it seems like the assault when end he is met with absolute silence.

And then in the distance a voice...]

he's stopped for the moment, resting his feet on the edge of an abandoned bus stop bench, gazing into the fog. he came to find jason and he can't leave until he does; it's just like before, just like with shaun.

[Of course, when it isn't raining, there's that mist, which isn't any less foreboding. Not here, in this place that he's been running from, but somehow only winds up running back towards.

[So he tries someplace different this time. Someplace he doesn't go to often. There's no way that the bus station is in service -- hasn't been for some time. He goes to check the place out, anyway.

[Shinjiro doesn't know why the kid would've have come here. The place isn't exactly welcoming. It's surrounded in thick, cold fog and the town itself seems like it's hours away from dying. He wonders if he should have so easily trusted the tip of a complete stranger, but then again he hadn't had much of a choice. Something in his gut told him he didn't have time to waste, didn't have time to double-back to the Dorm and wait for a solution that wasn't guaranteed to come.]

[No matter how many times it happens, Jay can't help but panic whenever those mornings come when he wakes up somewhere he doesn't recognize, the memories of the past few days wiped clean from his mind. Not even his camera can offer any hints as to how he got here, in the woods outside a town he is sure he's never heard of before.

It doesn't take him long to find and follow the road back to civilization, away from the trees that loom tall and skeletal above him. He's got his keys in his pocket, so he knows his car probably should be around here somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it.

There's a strange feeling of unease crawling down his spine, and it takes him a few more minutes of wandering the streets in silence before it hits him:

Or opened stores.
Signs of activity.

Anything.

The whole town shouldn't be dead.

He calls out, hesitantly and just a bit shakily:]

[ The ghoulish, horribly misshapen thing steadily stalking towards him doesn't seem especially inclined to listen. Its pendulum head swings back and forth, back and forth, like the tolling of a silent dirge bell, and one contorted arm reaches out and swipes at him, as if trying to pull him into a loving embrace. Perhaps forever. ]

[ Unarmed, ashen-faced, the boy stumbles back further into the room. What else can he do? There's nowhere to run, no place to hide. In seconds it's going to be on top of him. And without his ability, he's powerless against it. ]

[ How hard was it to complete a prison transfer and NOT run off the road? Minatsuki was incredibly unimpressed. So there had been a tiny earth tremor. It was nothing unusual, considering the geography.

Except that when Minatsuki climbed out of the upturned prison van, handcuffs still attached, she was in a different geography entirely. No sign of the cops, either. She wasn't sure yet if that was a good thing or not. ]

Idiots. [ She mutters. Why the hell would they leave the car in this weather? By the time they returned, she could be anywhere.

It was then that she noticed the figure in the distance. She looked down at her chains, and then back to the empty van. If she was going to make a run for freedom, now would be the time to do it. She ran towards the figure, the silhouette transforming into a young girl before her eyes.]

Hey! Hey you!

[ She has to stop for breath a meter away from the girl. Wow, she got tired easy. She holds out her hands in surrender, showing that she's not dangerous, despite appearances.]

[It stinks. Everything stinks like sulfur. Like bodies, but he tells himself no. He tells himself no, this is a haunting that's out of hand. That's it. None of these has any power over him, over the power of Christ. Everything's fine. He's just praying and running and trying to find Frank. They can't get their mark alone, not like this. They need to get out, they need to get help--and then they can come back and get the girl out.

[They are in way over their heads.

[He pauses in the road for a moment. Where is he? Where is Frank, they were--he knows this spot! He has to be close. When he hears shouting, Gerard takes off for it. He's not sure what he's going to do, but he's going to do it hard. In the alley, he has to jump red-rusted barrels and bags (they're not bodies, they're not bodies, they're not bodies), and he gives himself a scare when he crashes into a broken fire escape. But he keeps going, and he shouts for Frank as he gets closer to the commotion.

[What he finds, though--once he's followed the sound down the alley, up the fire escape, around a sulfur-stunk corridor--is not Frank. It's a seraph, but it's wings are snapped, all four dragging behind it. It's a seraph, but it's face is demonic--a snake, a monkey. It's an angel, but it shrieks at him like a harpy, and Gerard turns to bolt back out. A hand fisting into the back of his shirt stops him, though. He cries for Frank again, very differently, when a chain wraps around his neck. Frank, Frank, Frank, help.]

[He wasn't sure what triggered it; the thing that he had to beat away, or the pounding in his skull. He had come here as a young man, with his father and mother; before things went bad. Before...before it went bad.

And he decided to come again, and things went to hell in a hand basket. He was shaken, and pressed against the nearest chain link wall, the hands holding the plank shaking. There were so many things here...

And why were they making him think of things he wished he didn't have to do?]

[For the first time in a long, long while Nariko is aware of how human she is. The fire's gone, the Darkness is gone, and she wonders if it's a fucking punishment for the past seventy-two hours of her life. It at least stayed long enough to heal the broken rib, but her face is something of a mess, though that's about the worst of it. If it's really punishment maybe she should be more worried about it. And maybe she should be sad about that but Nariko is more focused on putting as much distance between herself and her old life as possible. She got into her jeep, filled up the tank and just drove for hours, favored the back roads versus the more convoluted freeway.

She can't remember when this fog started, exactly, but it makes driving damn near impossible. It's so thick that going anything more than fifteen miles an hour feels like a death wish, and strangely enough by the time she comes upon the sign that reads 'Welcome To Silent Hill', her engine sputters, it groans, and then it promptly dies. For a little while Nariko sits in her beloved vehicle, represses the desire to cry angrily, and then pushes herself out of the car. A quick inspection tells her that it's not going to work - she's got an emergency kit of course but the whole fucking engine is dead. Which doesn't make any fucking sense since she put it together herself, this whole jeep is her pride and joy!]

You've got to be fucking kidding me!

[But there's no changing the fact that it's useless for right now. Nariko grabs her bag from the passenger seat and starts walking. The closer she gets the more she can see the outline of what looks like a town. She can find a shop and get the car fixed and keep going, even if that means walking for the next half mile or so. She's so concerned with getting there, that Nariko probably wouldn't even notice walking right by someone she might actually be happy to see.]
