Sentinels and Guides Shipping Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?

Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

That said, it wasn't like he immediately disappeared since it was a tight fit and it took him several moments to wriggle into a position that let his hands have enough room for him to actually be able to move.
Once situated, he started climbing though he kept half his attention forward in case of a 'welcoming committee' and half back toward Leia in case someone saw her before she could follow him.
That at least meant he could ignore the creeping sense of unease that was causing the hairs on the back of his neck to raise. Whatever was waiting for them up there, it wasn't going to be good.

When she was younger she'd thought it was another case of being underestimated, but she'd learned somewhere along the way that it was simply an untrained Force ability -as most of her Force abilities were- and it was something she often used to her advantage.
She did give him a full count of ten before following, finding that it was very much like she remembered the aqueducts being, which made it easy for her to find toeholds, mostly using her legs to push herself up instead of her arms to pull.
no subject
The climb in and of itself wasn't so difficult but it was just as well neither of them appeared to be inclined toward claustrophobia considering the close confinement and the relative darkness as they moved into the Temple.
Eventually he found another grate, shoved it open, and clambered out before turning around to hold a hand out for Leia.
"Service corridor, doesn't look like there's anyone back here."

Despite the insistent cold feeling of darkness he sensed that suggested he was only fooling himself if he thought there was anything remotely normal to be found here anymore.
"Well," he added, "let's find you an artifact. Archives are this way."
no subject
"Lead on." She replied, another small smile twitching into place and sliding away again just as easily. She was already sending out feelers, in a way, getting a sense of the shape of the place, the size of it, that sort of thing was part of how she so easily went unnoticed, just making it seem like she belonged in a place, regardless of where it was.

But this was different.
The evidence of just how different first came when they turned a corner to see blaster scoring on the walls and up ahead of them something in a crumpled heap on the ground. In the dim light it was hard to make out but that might have been the brown of Jedi robes.
Either way, Anakin's pace sped up significantly until he came to a stuttering halt before the body.
"No..." he murmured before he crouched to brush the edge of the robe's hood away to reveal the fallen Jedi's face, one he didn't recognize but lined with age. "...most of the Order is out on the front. Most of those here are the old...or those too young to be apprenticed to a Master."

She was no stranger to death, either, she had, after all, been the direct cause of plenty of them, and the indirect cause of countless others, as happened when one was a general, but this was different.
"There are probably going to be more." She said quietly after a moment, even though she figured he already knew as much.

retributionjustice for those who'd died here."We should keep moving," he added, "and be careful. There were guards outside, there could be more left in here."
no subject
And so she nodded, shifting her grasp on the blaster against her shoulder, falling easily into step beside him, letting herself focus on the space again, hoping to avoid any surprises.
no subject
There were more.
And with every body, Anakin's fury ratcheted up just a little more and drew darkness a little tighter around him. It would be impossible for Leia not to tell how he was being affected even if she weren't his Guide and even without the Force but his focus on getting them both through the Temple safely, her especially, allowed him to ignore the coming storm for the time being.
Maybe she wouldn't notice.
Until they do come across a patrol and Anakin sees that these weren't just any clones that took down the Temple. No, he recognizes those armor markings all too well.
For a moment, all she gets from him is sudden, blank, shock. They were his men and he'd trusted them with his life and they'd served him unquestioningly and now-...?
They catch sight of Anakin and Leia at about the same time, raising their blaster rifles in a single movement. One of them, however, raises his hands in a placating gesture, "General Skywalker, sir. We have orders to take you to the emperor."
[ooc: rolling with the idea that order 66 had a special provision for anakin since palpatine would've still wanted to make use of him, etc, if he managed to get back to Coruscant.]

Her next realization was that her usual alias of Breha Olos would be useless here, because Breha was a far more recognizable name, and it was better to give people less reason to look into her connections instead of more, especially when things were already going wrong.
She straightened, a little, and stayed close, though for the moment she refrained from bringing her own rifle around to bear, though she was ready to at a moment's notice.
[ooc: makes sense to me!]
no subject
Leia Olos would likely work just as well though in this case she's with him so she was going to be scrutinized regardless.
Anakin's grip tightened on his lightsaber though he made no moves yet. They were outnumbered and he knew just how good his men were and he needed to keep Leia safe. If she weren't there he likely would have already leaped into violent action.
...or would he? They were his men after all.
That was a question he didn't want to examine too closely. "I didn't come to see Palpatine, Jesse. I just came to get some of my things. None of you had to see me." Anakin didn't try to put any Force compulsion into his voice. He was nowhere near centered enough to try that particular trick and there was a certain amount of sharp focus on the mission he was getting from the squad around them that suggested they wouldn't be so easily swayed anyhow.
The clone he called Jesse glanced at Leia, "and her, sir?"
Anakin's response came like the crack of a whip, sharp enough that the men could be seen suddenly straightening their shoulders and shifting back just a hair. "She's no Jedi and not your concern."

She even let her own posture relax a little, still alert, but managing to look more at-ease, some of the rigidness drifting away from her shoulders and spine. She was still keeping track of the troopers, and still had ahold of the strap of her blaster, but mostly she was watching Anakin, waiting for a chance, or a sign, or both.
no subject
Anakin had been holding in quite a lot of emotional energy as they'd traversed through the Temple and it was already straining a little at the seams. Leia, at least, would sense it as he suddenly came to a decision. Like the exhale before pulling the trigger.
Then he threw his arms out and Pushed all that energy out through the Force, scattering the troopers in all directions like ragdolls. Some might not get up again but it was better than starting a firefight.
Not that he had too many more moves like that one in him for the near future. "Come on," he said to Leia, "they've probably already reported us. We're going to have to run."
no subject
She didn't wince when they were scattered, though any other time she probably would have. Instead she just nodded, "Lead the way, I can keep up." And she could, at least for a while, she wasn't as young as she used to be, but most of the time that hardly mattered.
no subject
He just hoped no one would have expected him to head for the holocron vaults.
"Here," he said finally as he came up short beside a large door. "They're back here."
no subject
Though she was puzzled as to just where they were, shaking her head a little, brow creasing, "And what are 'they', exactly?" Holocrons, intact ones at any rate, had been a rarity even when she was a much younger woman, and while they weren't entirely unheard of in her current day and age, they were usually a case of 'something that used to be'.
no subject
Seemed a reasonable artifact to help her get back where she belonged and he figured she could use it in the future.
"The trick is that only Jedi Masters are supposed to be able to access these."
But with the way things were going, he wasn't feeling particularly guilty about breaking in and taking what was needed.
no subject
Her brow creased at the statement, "I'm going to guess they don't have any sort of security measures to prevent non-masters from getting in, just dire warnings about what will happen, right?" She'd gotten into plenty of places like that in her youth, one more shouldn't be a problem.

She shook her head then, edging closer to the doors just to see if she could tell for herself, "Or do you know?" She'd managed to spring the reactionary ones before, there was no real reason she wouldn't, given her lineage, and while she wasn't extensively trained, she could trigger an internal latch easily enough if she knew approximately where it was. She'd only managed a combination tumbler once, and she knew that had been more luck than skill.
no subject
The Jedi liked the idea of having two for all these kinds of things. The Sith too, if one thought about it.
"Can you do that?"
no subject
she was a little surprised to find that she meant it, and that she was going to apologize to her brother when she got back to her own time. She had spent decades unable to forgive Vader, or even to acknowledge who he was, or had been, and now?
Well now she was about to do what amounted to breaking and entering and some kind of petty theft with the man who would -presumably- be her father.
no subject
Is it really theft if he's a Jedi taking a Jedi artifact from the Jedi Temple? In a way couldn't it be considered artifact preservation considering what is to come for this place?
Anakin was very good at justifying that weren't strictly the right thing to do. Though in this case he had no qualms at all.
"Okay," he said, "let's do this before anyone else shows up."
Since she said she got the idea he was going to give her the benefit of the doubt and raise his hand toward the door, inspecting it with the Force and feeling out what he was going to have to do to pull it free. Opening himself to the Force there in the middle of the Temple also opened him to the painful echoes of all the death around them but he just gritted his teeth against it and powered through.
If Leia took note in the Force she might sense the great mantle of power he carried but more concerning would be the Darkness seeking to surround him and slip past his currently rather shaky defenses. Despite what he'd learned from what she'd told him, it was obvious he was still in danger.
Just as well they only had clones to worry about and not Palpatine as well.
