Sentinels and Guides Shipping Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
A Sentinel!AU Meme
There are special people in the world: Sentinels--whose five senses are incredibly enhanced, sometimes to the point of overwhelming and who can easily lose themselves in fugue states--and Guides, the empaths with the ability to ground a Sentinel and focus them. Meant to be the protectors of the Guides, for every Sentinel there exists a guide that is their perfect match. In some universes, when matches are made, a Sentinel and Guide form a soulbond to fill the feeling of emptiness.
How easy was it for you to find yours? How are Sentinels and Guides treated in your universe? Or maybe you're one of the normal, unremarkable people. Do you fear Sentinels and Guides? Despise them?

Prompts
oo1. The Meeting:
How did you meet? Was it at an event organized specifically for finding your other half? By accident? Did you follow a mystical calling to them? Some other way?
oo2. The Bonding:
Do Sentinels and Guides in your universe soulbond? How does it go down? Is there a ceremony or do you just retreat to the bedroom?
oo3. Rejection:
Sometimes Sentinels or Guides propose a match but it's just not perfect. You don't feel the pull or maybe you think there is someone better or maybe you're already claimed. Maybe you were claimed and someone better came along?
oo4. Protection:
Sentinels are meant to protect Guides, any Guides, but it's even worse when they feel their Guide is in danger. They go feral; blind to anything but stopping and killing whoever threatened their Guide or the bond. Maybe someone attacked your Guide or you haven't bonded yet and you feel threatened or maybe you're the one doing the threatening. Whatever the reason, Sentinels in a feral state are dangerous and only their Guides can stop them.
oo5. Lost:
Sentinels often lose themselves in their senses. Either you're a Sentinel who has lost themselves or a Guide that has stumbled on one or a friend trying to draw them out. Unbonded Sentinels will find it hard to escape without a Guide. Or maybe you're bonded already which means you just need yours to come home.
006. Persecution:
Sometimes normal people or the government fear the power of Guides and Sentinels. Guides are empaths, feeling the emotions and sometimes passing thoughts of others and it can make people feel violated. Sentinels often have enhanced strength, which can make them dangerous. So they scorn them, hurt them or in the case of governments, regulate them.
oo7. Death:
Unbonded Sentinels and Guides eventually lose themselves to the empty cavern inside them. Torn apart from the inside by the feeling of something missing. Breaking the soulbond of a Sentinel and Guide is agonizing and horrifying, leading quickly to death for the remaining partner.
oo8. Old-School:
Guides used to be treated on the same level as slaves. Unable to work unless their Sentinel said. Not allowed out on their own. They used to wear collars and couldn't own land or inherit money. Maybe the old ways haven't completely fallen out of style.
oo9. Unbonded:
Nothing is worse than being an unbonded Guide or Sentinel. Always looking for your other half to fill that empty feeling but you probably have friends that aren't your match or who are trying to set you up with someone. Maybe you're skeptical about the whole love at first sight thing and haven't been looking.
o10. Wildcard: Some mish-mash of the above or anything else you can come up with!

Poe shrugged, "We can go meet Stumpy too, if you want to. But the fish are definitely harmless."
Kes nodded as well, "Actually harmless, not just docile. They're plant-eaters mostly, keep the lake clean of algae bloom."
no subject
"Why not? Nothing like a little adventure, right?"
Which, considering present company entirely what they were discussing was nothing like adventure.
Somewhere in the back of his mind Hobbie was just waiting for Resistance TIEs to come screaming down from the sky or for Stumpy to have hit an angry teenager phase or something.
no subject
He'd finished with his own dinner, using another roll to mop up the last of the soup from his bowl, glancing at the front windows, "Still enough light if you want to go now. Or we can go in the morning."
dammit, I knew something felt wrong when I typed "Resistance TIEs".
"Let's go and see, it's what we're here for, isn't it?" Well, sort of.
Hobbie raised his eyebrows, "unless you want to tackle the dishes first." Not that he really expected that to be the case. And if it was, well...Hobbie was a pretty good dish-drier.
lol, been there, though they've probably got at least a couple they cobbled together from parts
Poe laughed, slinging another quick hug around his father's shoulders before heading for the door, holding it open for Hobbie, "Not going to let him think twice about that, let's go."
no subject
"I forgot how it can feel like you're swimming through the air around here."
no subject
Which was, of course, what prompted the curious head-tilt, "Really? I never noticed." There was an easy amusement behind the statement, because he knew that most people found it unbearably hot and damp.
no subject
And if he believed that, Hobbie had some beachfront property on Alderaan to sell him too.
no subject
Poe took a slight detour past the orchard so that he could pick up some fallen fruit for Stumpy, since much of it would end up in the trench anyway, he had no qualms about making that process faster.
Surprisingly, the trench didn't actually smell like garbage. It smelled a little like standing water, but that was all, there were signs warning not to swim both due to the danger of debris and the danger of being mistaken as a snack. Apparently even just the one Dianoga was enough to clear the organic matter before it could start to decompose and stink the place up.
There was little more than a hold back fence at the edge, nothing that would actually keep anyone out, only knee-high as it was. Poe hefted one of the fruits he'd picked up, winding up and lobbing it out into the water, "Might be sleeping," He commented, "But we'll see."
no subject
Pause, thoughtful expression.
"Can dianoga develop refined garbage palates, you think?"
no subject
He shrugged, slinging another fruit out into the trench when the first one sunk, testing to see if it had given in under its own power, or if it had been pulled in, "But I don't know, not the kind of tests I'd want to be in charge of."
no subject
"Be a waste of good food," Hobbie agreed, "your pet doesn't seem to mind, either way."
He wasn't about to actually lean over the trench to get a better look, but Hobbie did squint a little at it, "I think we've got company."
no subject
Stumpy didn't heave himself out of the water of the trench, not exactly, but it did, definitely stretch, looming upright, definitely full-grown. Poe, for his part, was still grinning, shifting his weight a little to lob another fruit at the creature, one that was caught deftly and stuffed into its beak.
It was obvious that it was missing limbs, though it was large enough now that what had once been knotted scar tissue was now only visible by the lighter coloration and the gaps where another tentacle should have been, though given as how it kept moving, that was more difficult to tell.
no subject
Then he let out a bark of laughter and waved his left hand a little. "Maybe you should've gotten it a metal arm too." Hobbie was probably lucky he'd ended up getting called Hobbie instead of Stumpy himself.
no subject
"Don't know that he's not making himself one with all the scraps down there." He replied with a shrug, still smiling crookedly as he offered one of the fruits over to Hobbie, "You want to make friends?
no subject
Hobbie accepted the fruit and looked at it speculatively. "A guy could always use more friends in the galaxy." Even if the friend in question was a trash-eating monster.
With a shrug, he tossed the fruit underhanded toward Stumpy for him to catch.
no subject
Poe finally laughed, "That's a good sound, I know it doesn't sound like it, but it is, happy yelling."
sorry it took so long!
no worries man, it happens
He gave a shrug then, "Might be, doesn't seem to bother him if it's been sitting for a while. Honestly I think it's the company." Though many of the settlers talked to the Dianoga like it was some sort of community pet, it got excited about it every time.
do you want to let this go? or timejump them forward a bit? I'm good either way!
"So now that you've shown me around the sights," so to speak, "what do we do next?" He glanced up skyward. "Guess it's getting pretty late."
I say jump and if nothing else sticks we can let it go - did you have a plot point in mind?
He nodded at the rest, "Head back and try to get some sleep, I think." He'd save meeting his mother, or at least the Tree, until the next day, even though it was on the same side of the house as the guest room, and chances were good Poe would just slip out to talk to it in the morning, right around dawn.
here we gooooo~
Which was fine until some point in the middle of the night when he suddenly found himself snapping awake. Understanding of where he is followed a half-second later, and then awareness that what woke him up was the sound of someone trying too hard to move surreptitiously outside. He thought.
Definitely something wrong. Or surely Kes would have mentioned they were expecting company?
Either way, he didn't bother changing from his sleep-clothes. They're dark, that'll help. Maybe he should wake up Poe too, he thought. But finding the problem and neutralizing it seemed of more immediate importance.
He paused by the door that led outside and listened, hard, before slipping quietly out and into a patch of shadow. Now that he was outside he could smell the bastards too. Trandoshan, he thought, and something else. Maybe more than one something. For a moment, Hobbie regretted not bringing a blaster with him. The Trandoshan would be a problem without one.
So he settled on finding one of those 'something elses' and found himself a human obviously dressed to be camouflaged in the darkness setting explosive charges on the house. Killing him would've been a quiet affair if Hobbie had accounted for the human's lookout first.
Instead he now had one dead interloper and another lighting up the night around him with blasterfire.
Perfect. Just kriffing perfect.
no subject
He startled when the firefight broke out, rolling from bed to the floor, landing as quietly as he could, though he didn't have to worry overmuch, given how much noise had just erupted outside.
He was unsurprised to find Kes at the bedroom door, offering over a blaster with a quick, quiet explanation of: "Your uncle Dimas got hit first, got the word out before the power went down." The man wasn't actually Poe's uncle, but one of Kes' squad-mates. Poe was equally unsurprised to find that they had a warning and communications system in place, only surprised in that it meant this had happened before and he hadn't known about it.
Kes eyed him a moment but nodded once, "I've got the front, you get the back, find Hobbie before he gets himself caught, let's not have to deal with a ransom today." Poe just nodded once, accepting the blaster and giving BB-8 sentry duty on his way out the back door, keeping alert for the pull of Hobbie's presence at the back of his mind.
no subject
Hobbie at least had had the sense to take the dead assassin's blaster and start firing back as he sprinted for better cover.
It wasn't overly difficult for Poe to find him between that and the sense of anger rising in him that this scum had come at them like cowards in the middle of the night. Had endangered his-. Poe.
By the time Poe gets to him, Hobbie had taken out another of the bounty hunters with a few well-placed shots. "You always late to the party?" he said by way of greeting since cracking wise was preferable to a great many other things at the moment.
no subject
He twisted aside, eeling himself up from behind their current cover, picking two of the raiding party off himself before dropping again, which was when he asked: "What tipped you off?" Because if it was something Poe should have noticed himself, he was probably going to kick himself later for not having noticed.
