A home is where you find one.

unexpected domesticity shipping meme.
you never thought you'd have a home, at least not one you can call completely yours, no strings attached and no one lording above you or controlling you. you may not have even known what a "home" truly is, or thought you wanted one. now, there is a touch of domesticity in your life, no matter what things are like otherwise, because you have a home, though you may not have a house proper.

most importantly, you now have someone to share this new facet of life with - a partner. similar to you or completely different, relationship unspoken or unrealized, heavily romantic or understated, they are slowly but surely becoming someone indispensable to you. you never could have seen this coming. and, of course, with domesticity comes a certain amount of intimacy, perhaps even the ultimate physical intimacy...you may be open to that already or you're working up to it when you'd hardly considered it before.

whether your situation is for the long term as it stands, could end at any moment, or a mere disguise you're using to lay low, you're getting comfortable. how does that make you feel? will you it accept a new lease on life - or will you sabotauge yourself before someone else does?

Comment with your character, preferences, what tone you want your thread to take, and whether or not your open to smut.

Daddy could probably jump much further than Mommy could at the moment, anyway. Daddy was the better choice. But Rey was more than happy to cheer them both on, and that had to count for something.

She slowed down while he pushed higher, still holding tight to the chains with one hand, raising the other to 'cover' her eyes when Matt gives the command, although she peeked through spread fingers in order to watch them take the leap.

This time, there was no holding her breath. She couldn't even if she wanted to - the moment they touched down, literally, she was laughing, shoulders shaking from the force of it all. "Landing gear is down, I definitely think it's time to feed my fearless astronauts."

"Sounds like a plan to me." He picked himself off the ground. Matt was practically rolling around in the grass laughing at the prospect of torn pants. They weren't, of course, but the thought alone was very funny to a three year old.

On the way there, they made sure to remind their son about restaurant behavior, which was pretty much the same as doctor's office behavior. Food was something to be eaten, not played with or thrown across the table.

They were seated at a little booth, and Ben blocked his son (and the booster seat) in. He didn't need to look at the menu. They'd both been there countless times over the years. "Want to split one of those thin crust supremes? Just like old times?"

They could always get it boxed up if Matt proved to be too fidgety. But so far, he was quietly absorbed in pushing the buttons on the table jukebox.

Well, to be fair, it would have been pretty funny to Rey, too. But she was glad that no accidents were had, because she actually was, for once, hungry enough to eat half a pizza by herself.

First, though, once they were all buckled up and safely on their way, was a reminder about rules, which Matt seemed to understand, even though they could never really be sure that he'd end up following. They'd had enough restaurant meltdowns to know that sometimes, a little reminder went a long way.

He didn't put up a fuss, though, when he was securely placed in his booster seat, nor when Ben took the seat next to him. He didn't act out when the waiter arrived to take their orders, and Rey was extremely grateful for that. It seemed like maybe this was going to be a dinner success. Still, she was absolutely prepared to make a hasty exit if necessary, takeout in hand.

"Oh, yeah, definitely. And the mini cheese pizza for Matt."

Sometimes, miracles happened. Once Ben cut up the mini-pizza into little bite-sized sliced, Matt had worked up enough of an appetite to actually sit there and eat it! For a good twenty minutes!

"I might have to switch my routine around if he behaves like this all the time." Ben whispered across the table. If he did some of the chores earlier in the day and took Matt out to play late in the afternoon, would he sit through dinner more often?

Then he laughed into his slice of pizza.

"Who am I kidding, it'll be an entirely new routine pretty soon. And doubled."

The reality of it all was just starting to peek through the shroud of excitement.

"Wow... Everything is going to have to be doubled. We still have everything from when Matt was born, but is that even going to work?" he scratched his head. "They make double-strollers, don't they?"

And this day, despite the surprises that have come their way, had turned out pretty well. Rey could overlook the one public tantrum, as long as the rest of the night ran smoothly, which seemed a distinct possibility since he was eating so serenely, not a hint of disturbance to be found.

She'd just taken a bite of pizza, so instead of laughing, all she could do was offer a softly amused breath in return. A change in routine was certainly worth a shot, although -

"It's - it's a bit much, I know, but I'll have my leave, we'll be able to find a routine that works" she replied, nodding. It was easy to sound confident, although Rey was beginning to feel anything but as the weight of everything was becoming more and more apparent.

"Um. Some of it will work, but we're definitely going to need more. A whole lot more, including a double stroller, and oh my God, Ben, this is going to be insane, isn't it?"

His mind quickly raced through everything they had for Matt, and then he started doubling it. From baby bottles and pacifiers to booties and bath towels, they were going to need twice as many of everything.

"...Can two babies sleep in the same crib? Or do we need two of those too?"

And then the real doozy hit.

"Dear lord, diapers... We are going to need a ton of diapers..." He thought it insane how much one baby could poop. Now there was going to be two. Hell, he'd almost settle for enduring his mother's cruel remarks if she'd just bring over a few boxes of diapers.

On the plus side, since they kept as many supplies and clothing and toys from when Matt was a baby, they didn't have to start from scratch. That was definitely a step in the right direction. There was still much to prepare for - and with a move on the horizon, it did seem daunting, but Rey knew (or would like to believe) that everything was going to go off without a hitch.

"At first, I think that's a good idea, but they'll be too big to share that space before too long."

If anything seemed impossible, it was providing the sheer amount of diapers that were going to be needed on a daily basis. Never before has Rey been so grateful that she and Ben weren't cloth users - there would be near-constant washing necessary to keep both babies clean and dry! Yeah, diapers were expensive, but if they started stockpiling now, maybe that would help.

"Yeah, this is gonna ... it's gonna get intense."

Not to mention the double loads of laundry, double loads of bottles to wash, double feedings (because unlike Rey, he wasn't sure he could feed two babies at once), double the crying at all hours...

"Intense... Yeah. That's definitely a good way to describe this." He gulped, and then smiled back at his wife. Their hands met over the pizza. "Still wouldn't want it any other way, or with anyone else but you. We'll make it work. After all, what does Yoda always say. Do or do not, there is no try?"

Matt chimed in on that last part, loudly and with his mouth full.

"Mommy, there is no try!"

"Remember what that means, Matt? It means that when we're gonna do something, we do it. Not just kind of do it. We do our best at it. Right?"

"No try!"

Ben smirked. Maybe he got it. Those life lessons would sink in eventually, but for now, the words would do.

"Are we going to try to save room for chocolate cake?" He whispered. That, too, was either do or do not. But there was a strong chance all three children would be naturally gifted with a sweet tooth.

Double the everything, good and bad times included, happiness and frustration, and the ever-present sleepless nights, too. But for all of the hardships they have and would face again, they've gotten through. As long as they were together, they'd get through.

Intense was the tip of the iceberg, and Rey knew it. But as she tangled their fingers together and offered a reassuring squeeze, certain that despite how daunting this journey seemed right now, they'd weather it, too. "Me and you against the world", she started, interrupted by Matt chiming in, laughing as she glanced at her son, whose recently cleaned face was now messy with pizza sauce.

For being a children's show, it did share some very important pieces of wisdom. Rey could only hope that some of what Matt was learning would stick with him as he grew up.

"Nah", she whispered back, shaking her head. "Someone's had enough sugar for one day. We'll save it for tomorrow, I think." She could wait - Matt could definitely wait, and perhaps the babies have had enough treats for one day. It gave her something to look forward to, in any case, and that always made a long day seem shorter.

"Cake!" Matt didn't want to wait, of course. Cake was fun and delicious and everything in between. His hands hit the table and the unused silverware rattled. "Cake! Cake! Cake!"

"Not tonight, Matt. Mommy and Daddy are full."

Ben wasn't planning on getting another slice of pizza, but a small one did hit him in the face.

"Want cake!!"

"Food is not for throwing, Matt!"

He glanced up at Rey apologetically. He didn't mean to accidentally help start another tantrum. But Matt was so receptive to everything they said and he was getting more vocal by the day, he'd have to watch his words more closely.

When the next small piece of pizza was a narrow miss, Ben stood up. "I'll take him outside. Can you pay and get a box for the leftovers?"

They'd almost gotten an entire meal. That was still progress!

Ben hoisted the angry toddler up and under an arm. "You can let it out on the 'mad bag' in the morning, but you're not having cake tonight!"
