THE GOD MEME 1.2.1
THE GOD MEME 1.2.1

You don't know how, or why, but you now have the power of a god. Scratch that, you are a god, with all the responsibilities (or lack of) the job entails.
How To Play:
♦ Post as your character, and write down the name, canon, prefereces, etc.
♦ In your subject line, include 'god/dess of...' with whatever you prefer to post. This can be anything: god/dess of knowledge, god/dess of french fries, god/dess of wank. Whatever you think your character is most suited to be.
♦ Optionally, describe how they came to be that deity. Have they always been a god? Were they just made a god? Did the head god make them a god for shits and giggles? Did the previous god of, say, tigers make them god/dess of tigers before hightailing it for vacation?
Replier options:
♦1♦ Fellow god/dess of the same pantheon
♦2♦ Fellow god/dess of a different pantheon
♦3♦ God/dess of the same thing, same pantheon
♦4♦ God/dess of the same thing, different pantheon
♦5♦ Supplicant
♦6♦ Disbeliever
♦7♦ Clergy
♦8♦ A Follower Of Some Other God(s)
♦9♦ Mortal (Former) Friends And Relatives
♦12♦ A celestial being, like the Abrahamic angels and devils for example.
♦12♦ A celestial being, like the Abrahamic angels and devils for example.
♦11♦ Other — whatever I haven't thought of
lbr if you're going to choose anyway you don't need RNG to give you permission

They're pretty weirded out by the whole thing and don't feel fit to the station, but they'll do their best.

Abe is not exactly a monster, in the sense that he did not have monster parents or clear connections to the group beings generally referred to with the lay term 'monsters'. Definitely not human either, genetics confirm it. He was just found sleeping in his tank, no memories and no past, just a fish with an odd brain. It's an uncomfortable position to be in. Abe would much enjoy being part of human society, but on the other hand he did like the thought of an entire race of creatures that wouldn't give a second look at him.
And now the monsters are out. And that's going to have to be a thing that's dealt with, on a lot of fronts. Abe still hasn't worked up the courage to go out and meet any of them, wondering if they'll ostracize him too...maybe to them he looks freakish for seeming too human. So Abe does what he does best, and he reads.
An entire wealth of folklore and mythology to revel in is almost enough to take him away from his nervousness. He pores through an old text some monster (lizard woman? did they call them 'women'?) had scanned in and thrown up on the internet, looking over the fresh gods the monsters had made for themselves down in the darkness.
The scanning monster had attached little notes in the margins about something new, and Abe squints to try and make it out. Horrid handwriting...
plz tell me if you want stuff changed /o/
He'll be able to make out that this god is the newest--made as soon as they walked out of their mountain prison, though the word 'god' is used far less than the term 'Angel'. The King declared 'them' so, the being who freed them before parting ways once they climbed down the mountain, and they were never seen again.
There was no way they should've been able to without dying before the barrier fell, and yet they did. They must've had some sort of special power. And not a single monster was harmed despite their travel through the entirety of the treacherous Underground.
Eventually, the scribbling will devolve into being entirely unreadable, except for a single word near the very end: Frisk.
no this is perf i just gotta sleep now
Abe should really know better than to read aloud works relating to gods. But the handwriting is as frustrating as the subject matter is fascinating, and most of it isn't occult in its own right.
"F'nsh? Frisk? What?" he mutters, trying to enlarge the page to get a better look at the writing. The word seems out of place and he's sure he's misreading it.
o7
And Frisk doesn't hear it very often, is the thing. Every monster thanks them sometimes, but that's just during more solemn holidays, such as the anniversaries of the barrier breaking, or of the humans whose SOULS had been lost in the Underground.
More likely is their friends mentioned them. Papyrus and Sans, Undyne and Alphys, sometimes even Toriel and Asgore despite the pain it brings to both. Talking about experiences with them, or reminding each other that Frisk's success was worth it even on the hardest of days. Or a certain flower alternatively praising them and cursing them.
They haven't shown themselves to their friends, though they do their best to help. It would be...uncomfortable. And it feels unfair, with the other lost children of the underground left dead or worse.
But they don't know this voice, this SOUL. They can't resist getting a closer...look.
The room fills with the scent of the ground after rain; dead flowers; a breath of fresh air after only knowing stale; butterscotch and cinnamon.
Re: o7
Abe's SOUL is, despite his appearance, quite human. It's...complicated.
He tenses as his physical senses taken in the flowers and cinnamon, and his paranormal ones detect the presence of something stronger than a refreshing breeze. He tenses and then flexes his fingers, seeking out more information psychically but keeping his body still. You never know what gods will do. Or angels. Some of them can be very touchy.
(To quote a dear friend, oh, crap. He should really have known better.)

They do not touch him. He will, however, feel something sort of standing behind him--seemingly peering over his shoulder, if it were a human body doing so. Pretty much exactly what Frisk is doing, trying to see what happened for them to be called.
If he chooses to glance back, he'll see a faint red outline of a heart shape, the echo of their own human SOUL they refuse to get rid of.

The Angel is a creature of Mercy. Walks through an entire mountain of hostile monsters and forgives them each in turn, never kills but never dies. They're probably not the smiting type, which is comforting.
Abe can already sense its presence with his hands, but he turns anyway in order to be respectful. "Hello," he says in a quiet voice, and bows slightly in respect. All right. God in the library. Not the first time this has happened, actually. "I...can see you there."
no subject
Oh. Huh. Someone knowing they're around when they're not showing it? Weird. Or maybe they've slipped up; it happens. Gods are not perfect, as much as mortals want to think. Frisk is kind of exasperated but not surprised.
Hello, Frisk replies. They're not talking quite yet, simply slipping the thought into his mind, clearly not his. No poking around, though.
In contrast to his formal bow, their next words are simple and almost casual. You alright?
They are the god of Mercy, aren't they? This not-monster may need their assistance.
no subject
"Ah, yes. I'm quite fine, thank you." Abe's far more used to outside images and words creeping into his mind, and Frisk won't find any resistance yet. "You are...the Angel?" Speaking Frisk's name summoned them, they'd prefer to avoid doing so again. He raises a hand in greeting, wishing he'd gotten down to the part where it listed appropriate worship measures for the god of Mercy. Perhaps they hadn't gotten around to codifying them yet.
no subject
They are now, at least. All of Monsterkind sees them as such, and gods are more influenced by their worshipers than most care to admit. They sort of think that title's deserved by another sort of kid, but there's nothing for it now.
Even without their name being spoken, their outline coalesces. It's still fairly human, though there's an even-lighter trace of wings and horns.
no subject
"An honor to be in your presence." Another small bow and so many questions to ask. He's nearly bursting with curiosity but he's got himself restrained, calm, polite as one should be to a deity.
It's the closest he's come to being in the presence of a monster.
no subject
If you're fine, why'd you call my name?
no subject
"I was studying monster beliefs. Despite my appearance I am very much not a monster, and I had no idea of their religion, or their gods." He gestures to the book behind him. "Someone put this on the internet, and I was curious. I've never had a chance to speak with a monster in person."
no subject
Yeah, you don't have a monster SOUL. You look sorta like Undyne, though. If you really like your--studying and stuff, she'll probably enjoy talking to you! She likes people who care about stuff a lot, even if she doesn't care about the stuff herself. Monsters are cool.
no subject
It looks...human. Almost like a child. Not at all what Abe would have expected.
"She does sound friendly--I'm in a similar place. I love to learn." He touches his chest, pose beginning to relax. Can't smile, but his body language smiles for him. "I'm not quite sure how I'd find her, though." Or introduce himself with 'hey a god said we should hang out let's talk about theology'.
no subject
"--but she, um. Actually...might...be really too excitable to be the first you ever meet." They barely even notice their shift to audible conversation.
They are quite human, look quite young, though they've given themselves--or were given, they're not sure at this point--dusky wings that catch the light and seem to glint too-bright-blue for just a moment. They've got horns, too, arcing back from their forehead, and those were Frisk's choice, modelling after the Boss Monsters they know.
"What kinda stuff's on there?" they ask, peering over his shoulder again.
no subject
Okay, so there went the human theory. But Angels rarely responded to human logic, Abe could consider himself lucky Frisk didn't have four heads or was a wheel of fire causing problems for his countless piles of books. He steps aside slightly, gesturing towards the scanned documents and then running his fingers over it to 'turn the page'.
"These seem to mainly be cultural notes. I was starting with deities and rites, I believe she's included something about death rituals in here as well...it's where I found your name."
no subject
"...yeah. They think I'm dead. I sort of am, I guess--oh, it's Alphys! She posted the stuff!" Their tone shifts from mildly subdued right back to excited again. "Thought she was just sticking to science only, but it's good humans are interested enough in this stuff for her to think of putting it up."
no subject
"There are some humans who oppose monsters living on the surface, or at least want them to live far away from humans. But happily, there are many who think otherwise." Let's not get the Angel down on humanity here, all right? Abe flips pages, showing off the text and the notes Alphys has made in the margins. He knows nothing about her beyond the little headshot she'd posted as her icon, a lizard-like face with glasses and a somewhat goofy smile. Abe had downloaded the document but not reached out to her directly.
First contact with a monster, whoever they might be...it's scary. He wasn't one of them, just as he wasn't one of the humans either. Would they reject him the way most of the world outside the BPRD did? Or could they at least connect across shared interests, they way Abe could with a select few humans more interested in his knowledge than his strange body.
"The person who wrote this, you knew them?" he asks, and tries not to sound excited. (And fails.)
no subject
"Yes! Alphys. She's Undyne's girlfriend. An' the Royal Scientist. Or used to be." Got fired by the Queen, but Frisk doesn't feel like explaining that part. "Think she's just a normal scientist now."
