That he automatically perceives not just the proceedings of all criminal trials in progress but the thoughts of the prosecutors involved in them as well -- and can alter those thoughts with very little effort, something he's been using primarily to subtly help otherwise competent prosecutors rethink minor pointless mistakes before they can make them -- made clear that beyond being nonhuman, he's superhuman. That he can remember thousands of years of trials and records dating from before his change, knows every law and everything to be known about prosecution, and feels the heartbeats of all prosecutors in the world within him and can individually distinguish them, among many other things, make it hard to argue against the irrational impression that came with his change that he now is prosecution...

But did this ridiculous situation that oughtn't be possible in the first place really have to come with any prosecutor who perceives him becoming obsessed with the idea that he's a god, too? It's been driving them to erect silver statues of him in courthouses and prosecutors' office buildings and burn offerings of paperwork and tea, actions which at least have some incidental benefits for him, and to waste their time on elaborate rituals and praise and praying for help they don't actually need, actions which don't help anyone involved at all -- and unlike prosecutors' other thoughts, their faith in him won't yield to his new power. Worse yet, their tendency to flock him when he tries to visit anyplace he could do ordinary work, combined with the lack of any leads concerning the "god" of defense or anyone else who could evenly match him in court now, make the massively heightened desire to prosecute that came with his transformation extraordinarily difficult to address. If he couldn't live vicariously through all other prosecutors' work, it would drive him mad.

And that's not even getting into the fact that he has no idea how or why this happened in the first place, nor where to begin investigating such a thing.]

*Technically he's a half devil rather than a true deity, but much like his father, he's often revered as a god for his noble efforts and displays of raw power in protection of humanity against his demonic brethren. He's worshipped by those who dedicate their lives to fighting against evil and those who seek protection from creatures of darkness.

Less commonly told legends describe him as a promiscuous drunkard who shouldn't be allowed to manage his own life. As such, he's also considered something of a patron deity of people who regularly make bad decisions.

Even less commonly told tales mention the fact that he hates being looked at as a god and thinks it's dumb to worship a demon. Those stories tend to get glossed over, buried and forgotten about by the churches.*

Almost as soon as this city's temple to the god of prosecution was completed, grievances and pleas for help came pouring in from it. Expectations of his aid from this place were nothing completely new to Edgeworth since the local prosecutors' prayers before then combined with what he'd observed in the courtrooms already suggested something actually was not quite right with this city's crime, but apparently once the general public was given access to a place to address him (not that they needed one, but its presence did call attention to the options), they saw fit to metaphorically turn up the volume. Had the temple here been built with that very aim in mind?

Edgeworth had appeared in a flash in said temple late in the evening, when it happened to be empty and most law-abiding people -- and more to the point, most prosecutors -- would be off the streets, particularly in a city and in the known crime-ridden district therein where he hoped to find some further leads. The prosecutor-god wasn't exactly inconspicuous in his usual suit, but it wasn't as though most criminals knew how to actually kill him. Shooting him successfully would hurt, yes, but ultimately it's just handing him evidence. Bullets from the shadows were to be expected.

Blood-propelled claws from the shadows, on the other hand, weren't. Nor was being swarmed from all directions by half a dozen partially-armored lizardmen with souls of a sort he'd never sensed before immediately thereafter; not automatically knowing how to make sense of things he's never perceived before had apparently worked against him badly enough this time to allow an ambush to be set without him realizing that was what he was noticing. As such, Edgeworth is now crying out in pain as he struggles to make his body react anywhere near as quick as his mind in order to dodge pouncing melee swipes from the beasts' rapidly-regrown claws... and not being a warrior even now, he's not doing a very good job of it. This suit is obviously ruined between holes, tears, and large bloodstains, to say nothing of the depth of the wounds beneath it...]
