A TWO-WEEK RULE

= With the exception of scheduled memes (see list below), you are not to post any memes that appear on the last two Round-Ups.
Give each meme two weeks before posting them again.

Also remember to avoid using images that are too graphic or if you do place it under a cut with proper warnings.

Please do not post more than one meme a day using one journal / sock account (Added March 12, 2017)

I would prefer this post NOT to be used for asking questions about the comm. We have a Report Problems/Concerns post at the Mods' journal. Even if your question is not exactly problem, it's best to comment there as then you'll get the quickest reply from one of the mods.




Be aware of these rules, because if you - as a player - start rping in a meme that is against the rules, you might lose your thread after the mods delete the whole thing.

We do not want to delete memes where you already play, because that is punishing you, not the person who broke the rules. They know this and intentionally go against the rules because 1) they want you to suffer from their stupidity and/or 2) if we don't delete the meme because we're being nice, they think they've outsmarted us. For the same reason, they do not reply to messages we send or have completely unabled PMs.


So players, for your own sakes, do not indulge the rulebreakers.

Let's keep to a schedule for the popular memes:
* TFLN - Friday (AM and PM timeslots every other week!)
* Smut Picture Prompt meme - Saturday
* Gen Texting meme - Sunday (Midnight Texting once/month, on the 3rd week, with other texting memes allowed for the other Sundays.)
These 3rd Sundays for 2024 are: Jan 21, Feb 8, March 17, April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21, Aug 18, Sept 15, Oct 20, Nov 17 and Dec 15.
* Sexting meme - Tuesday
* Picture Prompt (integrated or not) - Thursday
* Classic Word Association meme - on 14-18th of each month
* Reverse Smut Picture Prompt meme on the 2nd week of each month (starting Dec. 2018. It does not affect the posting of the regular Smut Picture meme)

* Covered in Blood - Sole posting right belongs to dousing

Hey! I'm not a mod or anything, but "OTA" stands for "Open To All." Generally this means that the person saying they're "OTA" is amenable to any prompt on the meme and, if it's applicable, any shipping configuration (m/m, f/f, m/f). Some people might specify that they're only interested in certain shipping configurations, or that they aren't interested in smut, or they're only interested in being tagged by canonmates (that is, characters from the same canon as them), but someone saying they're OTA is saying they're down for whatever!

I usually post picture prompts adjacent to TFLN but Thursday works for me if everyone is fine with it being posted in the evenings (EST block)

Hi, I don't know if this is the best place to ask about it, but I'm running out of options.

Is there any meme or something of the sort here that allows players to share the games they are in or to show off new games? Because the places I used to go for that seem to have closed down and I've been trying to look around for what's new, because I'd like to join a new place, and I... can't find anywhere with that information (that is not rpanons which I avoid like the plague). If you're not familiar with that community, you should note that (as the name suggests) it has mostly anon comments. That means discussion can get... not so pleasant at times. If you don't mind that, I believe you can get a decent exposure to your game there and you can also ask for other places to advertise.

Would it be possible to utilize the tagging system better?

For example, each time the 'hurt/comfort' meme comes up, tag it as such? Same for the mid-fuck meme, roll calls, enchanted forest, and all the common ones.

I know there is the weekly round up, but I feel like this could still help even more people out, and besides...a person can't ever be too organized, right?

The AU picture prompt is included as part of the Thursday picture prompt memes, though lately, it's mostly been the general, or the shipping version.

I'm not sure if there are dedicated posters for those memes off the top of my head, if you wanted to contact them and see if they could put up the AU version this coming week, or if the non-picture prompt AU meme could have a prompts option added (for images, video or audio prompts).

This might not be possible, but would it be an option to ask people not to post memes that have a bakerstreet schedule in their own communities and link to that post here?

It means that those memes, which usually see high interest, cannot be reposted for another week on bakerstreet and it pushes people who do want to play them to RP in non-bakerstreet communities. I understand that these communities are trying to increase their own popularity by posting well-liked memes and linking their entries here, but it creates a problem for those of us who don't want to play on those communities for whatever reason.

I'm wondering if the shipping picture prompt meme could be combined with the smutty picture prompt meme instead of with the gen picture prompt meme, schedule-wise? So
* Smutty or shippy picture prompt meme - Sunday
* General picture prompt - Thursday

My reasoning is that
1. it's not like the general picture prompt meme has ever kept people from shipping on it, so it is double-purpose and limits no-one, while the limitation to "shippy picture prompts" does limit its purpose and makes it even harder to play gen on this comm. So essentially it wouldn't change anything for shippers but would be positive for non-shippers
2. and, less importantly, that's the divide with the texting memes (gen texting vs sexting), too, so it works already for another meme type you have scheduled.

What are the odds that the period for reposts will ever get expanded? I've noticed several memes that get posted on a weekly basis despite getting very little play every time, and maybe making it every two weeks would help freshen things up a bit or at least give older posts more time to be noticed.

I'm so sorry I missed seeing your question. I didn't deliberately ignore it.

I do get your concern and I agree it's not the best idea to keep posting memes that stay almost empty. However, limiting the number of memes is not going to automatically make the comm and the other memes more active. Some players just won't bother with memes that are days old. It would need a change of attitude.

Right now the first page shows 30 memes and it usually covers about four days. Those who are willing to play in older memes will probably scroll through at least two pages which would be worth a week, approximately. I could be wrong but at the moment I doubt it would help activity if we limited the number of memes so that the first page would cover a week, for instance.

I'll ask what the other mods think, though. I'm not saying an outright 'no'.

Would it be possible to combine the (reverse) one-line smut meme with the (reverse) one-line shipping meme? They're almost the same thing and players could clarify in their top-levels if they want to ship or smut (or both).

I don't have anything against the idea but some players feel strongly about keeping smut memes separate from others.

But we could at least have a test period of a month or two when they are combined.

Hey mods!

For the last year or so, I've been posting the smut picture prompt meme and, out of personal interest, have tested the waters re: posting times. Midnight on Sunday, Sunday afternoon, sunday morning, evening, etc - I've tried them all, to diminishing results. What I'm getting at without trying to be tldr is to ask if we could try posting it on Saturdays for a probationary test period. I feel like that might gain more traction, as currently, Saturdays have no "big" memes like TFLN on Friday or Gen Text on Sunday.

Hi — we've been posting the shipping prompt meme on Tuesdays and the general pic prompt meme on Thursdays for a few weeks now. Unless you're still unsure on whether to allow this schedule on a permanent basis, could you change the text on the 'regularly scheduled memes' post to reflect the new arrangement?

Right now, it's still saying '* Picture prompt (integrated or not) - Thursday', which can confuse posters.

Just thought you'd like to check in with the fact that bakerstreetmods is apparently suspended. I periodically check the reports posts (sometimes people request memes) and it seems I can't access the concerns/reports post because it's from a suspended user.

EDIT: I should clarify that since the comm itself isn't suspended, whomever posted is suspended, and therefore we can't access the page. Since korofel is struck out, I'm assuming it's them, so you might want to repost the post.

I'd like to request permission to be the one to post the next werewolf pack au meme. I was going to post it today, but then I saw the animal pet person one up and thought I might get it taken down since 'werewolf' is covered in it, but not exclusively so and I've had another meme taken down for it being too similar to one already up. Someone else might try to put it up in a day or so, but I've noticed that most versions seem to have missing bits (if you look at the omega option, it's cut off mid sentence). I've edited the one I post to fill them out, but it's not *my* meme and try as I might, I couldn't google any instance of it being completed.

(Last version was posted on the 29th of March, so it's falling in the monthly posting range.) I just don't want to go through editing/picking gif/posting and having it removed, then having someone else post the non-fixed version again.

Apologies for replying so very late. I don't know if you already got an answer somewhere else from the other mods but for the most part if you follow these two rules, yu are good to go:

- Please do not post more than one meme a day using one journal / sock account (so technically you could post several memes a day as long as you switch journals)

- Do not repost a meme that is less than two weeks old (check the rules in this entry for exceptions)
