the PURGE MEME.

rick pretty much nailed it: one night a year, the government has decreed all crime legal, from internet piracy to premeditated murder. and that helps... somehow. how will you celebrate this year's purge?

optional options:

1. OUT & ABOUT: you live to purge! or maybe it's your first time participating, since you don't have any repressed rage. (spoken like a person with repressed rage)
   
2. LOCKDOWN: you've both been prepping for tonight's purge since last year's ended, and you're secure enough that you can watch the chaos play out from the comfort of your own home. popcorn or purgenol?
   
3. SEEKING SHELTER: you're not affluent or fortunate enough to afford safety tonight, or circumstances have led you outside your comfort zone. or maybe you're a purger trying to worm your way into a bunker. try and talk yourself into someone's heart and home.
   
4. THE LAST PURGE: you've had enough of this purge nonsense. it creates more problems than it solves! alone or with your squad, you're on a mission to find the fatcats who instituted this tradition and show them what it's really about.
   
5. OUTSIDE THE BOX: wildcard! these options are just suggestions. take the purge sandbox and run with it. combine prompts, toss in twists, keep it interesting. 'cause that movie sucked.

The biggest danger on purge nights was to hospitals. Invariably some idiot would decide to try shooting up the maternity ward or geriatric ward, meaning there were some fairly solid blast doors in most hospitals. And all the ERs were closed. Well, all except one. That one was wide open, and bandaging people up - although outside the doors were about a dozen bodies, most of which had weapons in their hands - and several more hands and forearms. Near the entrance was standing someone wearing full Roman Legionary armour - breastplate, shield, and all, and as Buffy watched from down the road he shield-slammed someone carrying an assault rifle into a wall even as a delicate swipe with his blade cut clean through his partner's AK-47 and both his hands.

[Okay, so: just because there's no laws tonight doesn't mean there's no morality. It doesn't mean you just give up everything good and forget about what makes you human. Because that's stupid, okay. Like, yeah, he's heard the same spiel everyone else has, ohhh, a purge will stop people from committing crimes the rest of the year, which is total bunk, so junk this noise. The purge is the law, but tonight there are no laws, so technically by going out he's following the spirit of things!

Or not. Finn really doesn't care anymore.

[And because after The Incident she was less inclined to go to Hogarth for all her lawyering needs, although Matt was too... morally inclined for her tastes, but the man was a damn fine lawyer. It was by chance that she was in his part of town for the annual purge, and after making sure that Trish was in her veritable Fortress of Solitude that meant she could play hero.]

[ While even Ranka is a little uneasy about how easily major celebrities can affect public opinions, she's also not above trying to nudge her fans when there's a clear moral stance to be made. Usually, she stays out of politics, but the Purge... who even came up with it? For a start, it seemed like getting it all out of the way on a predictable day meant that the rich and powerful could just plan to shelter themselves, and let everyone else suffer an even more disproportionate share of the violence.

So Ranka had gotten involved in anti-Purge activism even when it wasn't popular, and had tried to spread her funds thin to protect a lot of people moderately well instead of buying airtight security for herself, going so far as to oversee some of the efforts as the day dawned.

It left her even more vulnerable for the first few hours, and she knew it, but this was important darn it. ]
