YOU ARE NOT MY ENEMY
A slave/reluctant master romance(?) meme


The seed of the idea has existed for ages, perhaps as long as there has been the concept of enemies among humanity - so, a long time. It goes as follows:

You are in an unfamiliar and dangerous territory, most likely the home of your enemy. Whether there is a war raging in the background or just barely-bandaged hostility is irrelevant. Your safety does not depend on that. Instead, you are an example. Your freedom is forfeit. A prisoner is what you are...no, you're a slave. And you're given to someone for service or for entertainment.

You're prepared to hate your new "master." Who wouldn't? Slowly, however, you realize that things aren't as they seem. Your master is no cruel owner; in fact, they don't even want to own you. But they are as much of a pawn in this scheme as you are. Still, they show you kindness and their subtle rebellion fans the flames of your own. Over time, your feelings towards them begin to change. It may be some sort of Stockholm Syndrome or it may be a true emotion, yet either way, something fragile and perhaps even beautiful is growing between the the two of you. Could this be love? If it is or if it isn't, there's one certainty: if you are found out, it will be the end, most likely, of you both.

This is the situation your character finds themselves in. Are they master? Slave? How do they accept their fate? Their new feelings towards their "master"/"slave"? All of this is up to you, as well as how this all ends for the pair.

Of course, there's a precedent for it ending badly and bloody, for obvious reasons.

ATTITUDE

1. Willing: You'll take the past of least resistance and try to keep your head down.
2. Unwilling: Well, "unwilling" is sort of implied in general, but you are especially rebellious and refuse to be tamed. You throw any kindness you receive back in the giver's face. When you begin to feel something for your "master," you reject that as much as you possibly can.

ENDING

1. Good: The idealized, happy ending. You both get away from the system that keeps you chained and live freely together.
2. Bad: The realistic ending. Your little affair is unearthed and your heads end up on the chopping block.

"Wine is fine, Sir."

"Red or white?" he asks.

He has quite a selection of alcoholic beverages. Sherlock might have noticed by now what one of John's coping mechanisms was.

Not quite an alcoholic but coming rather close to dependant.

"White seems suitable for the pasta?"
He questions, extending the tablet to John, which recommends a white wine.

[captainwatson]

"Good point." he smiles and sets the table.

They could eat in front of the TV but this seems nicer.

Sherlock watches him set the table, but the pasta is ready to be drained and mixed with the sauce. Master shouldn't do that...But it's not his place to say. "Sir?" He starts cautiously.

This immediately reminds him of things he doesn't want to be reminded of. He's not hungry anymore.

"You okay?" He asks, seeing Sherlock pale a little; "What's wrong?"

[desecrated]

"Sir doesn't... I mean. This. Just the popcorn is extraordinarily nice, Sir. I'm grateful."

He's not sure how else to breach it.
"Come on, Sherlock. Look I made your favourite. You need to eat."

The last meal when he was free. Followed by another high. Waking up in the dark.
"Do you wish me to sit and eat with you?"

Two rules war against the other.
You don't get to join them at the table.
You set the table. Anything they want is on you. You are theirs not your own.

"Yes...but only if you're comfortable." He says, "I'm never going to tell you to do something that you really don't like."

[desecrated]

He dishes up the pasta, it's so odd and unusual. "It's. Not uncomfortable. Sir."
Just very different.
Master always orders things that aren't comfortable. It's part of life.
"If you sold me ... that would be uncomfortable."

[captainwatson]

"I definitely won't be selling you." John smiles and finishes setting the table.

The food smells delicious.

"You're getting much better than me at cooking." He complements.

[desecrated]

Sherlock blushes. "Thanks Sir."
He's not used to the praise. It's was different than "good boy" or not being punished.

[captainwatson]

John smiles back. Sherlock is rather cute when he blushes, he can't help but notice.

"So, before...you know, did you ever have someone you made dinner for?" he asks, carefully; "Girlfriend?...Boyfriend?"

[desecrated]

Sherlock shrugs. "Not really." Don't ask him about Victor. No one knows about that. Best not make it obviously a sensitive issue. Master could use that to his advantage.

[captainwatson]

"Oh. What did you get up to mostly? If you don't mind me asking." he asks, forking the pasta.

[desecrated]

"I contemplated detective work."
When I wasn't being a drug addict.

[captainwatson]

"Wow, really?" he is interested; "Did you ever solve any murders?"

[desecrated]

"One or two." He looks a little shy. No one wants too clever of a slave.

[captainwatson]

His interest is peaked.

"Tell me about a good one. Please."

[desecrated]

"Seven years ago or so. The... Chelmsford Cutter. I didn't want the press for it. Headache."

And it didn't bode well for a drug addict to be more clever than the police.

[captainwatson]

"That was you who solved that?" He's really impressed now. A lot of those killings took place near the street he grew up on; "How did you work it out?"

[desecrated]

"Killer made a mistake. Got arrogant no one else could catch him."

[captainwatson]

"But you did? Was it dangerous?" He wants details. He likes detective stories.

...And detectives.

[desecrated]

Sherlock swallows. "I liked it at the time." Misses it. But slaves can't really help the police. Not proper.

"The killer liked cutting his victims skin and keeping it. Mud from different areas of London told where he'd been."

[captainwatson]

"Did you get any sort of reward?" he asks, feeling it's not right for a hero to be a slave.

[desecrated]

"Satisfaction no one else died. And the reward offered went to the Yarders for equipment."

He doesn't see he should have gotten one. He would have just spent it on drugs anyway.
