YOU ARE NOT MY ENEMY
A slave/reluctant master romance(?) meme


The seed of the idea has existed for ages, perhaps as long as there has been the concept of enemies among humanity - so, a long time. It goes as follows:

You are in an unfamiliar and dangerous territory, most likely the home of your enemy. Whether there is a war raging in the background or just barely-bandaged hostility is irrelevant. Your safety does not depend on that. Instead, you are an example. Your freedom is forfeit. A prisoner is what you are...no, you're a slave. And you're given to someone for service or for entertainment.

You're prepared to hate your new "master." Who wouldn't? Slowly, however, you realize that things aren't as they seem. Your master is no cruel owner; in fact, they don't even want to own you. But they are as much of a pawn in this scheme as you are. Still, they show you kindness and their subtle rebellion fans the flames of your own. Over time, your feelings towards them begin to change. It may be some sort of Stockholm Syndrome or it may be a true emotion, yet either way, something fragile and perhaps even beautiful is growing between the the two of you. Could this be love? If it is or if it isn't, there's one certainty: if you are found out, it will be the end, most likely, of you both.

This is the situation your character finds themselves in. Are they master? Slave? How do they accept their fate? Their new feelings towards their "master"/"slave"? All of this is up to you, as well as how this all ends for the pair.

Of course, there's a precedent for it ending badly and bloody, for obvious reasons.

ATTITUDE

1. Willing: You'll take the past of least resistance and try to keep your head down.
2. Unwilling: Well, "unwilling" is sort of implied in general, but you are especially rebellious and refuse to be tamed. You throw any kindness you receive back in the giver's face. When you begin to feel something for your "master," you reject that as much as you possibly can.

ENDING

1. Good: The idealized, happy ending. You both get away from the system that keeps you chained and live freely together.
2. Bad: The realistic ending. Your little affair is unearthed and your heads end up on the chopping block.

"Slavery has been abolished, though house servants still exist in part. It was either there or Norway. I want to be as far away from her as possible."

He strokes the childrens hair as they sleep.

Sherlock blinks, watching the children. And John.
"You ... really wanted to go away."
Don't leave us too, Master.

[captainwatson]

"For so long. And I won't regret having them but it should have happened sooner." He sighs; "Mary will come after us. She will try to appeal to Interpol, accuse me of kidnapping. I can't prove her adultery without ruining Sophie's life. And her treatment of you won't be seen as illegal...though we might use it to fall at the mercy of the Canadian courts."

Sherlock nods at the statement she'll come after them. He knows that. She might not use legal means.

He winces, wondering if it's his fault John is unhappy.
He's not sure why John is so protective of him and Sophie.
He's a slave, and technically... Sophie could be?
Or is that only if the mother is a slave, too?

"What do you want of me, Master? I'll do it, you know."

[captainwatson]

"In Canada, you won't be my slave. You'll be free...so long as we ensure you're not deported." He tries to think.

He should be able to get a working visa, being a doctor.

But then the best way to keep Sherlock with him would be...

"Marriage." He doesn't realise he says the word aloud.

Sherlock looks like he wants to cry. Marriage. As equals? "Does this mean... you've... forgiven me?"

He looks at Sophie.
Blinking. Not sure what...
He nods because he's supposed to. He's supposed to agree.
He actually wants that thought, too.
How odd!!
He doesn't think that maybe it's a bad idea for a slave to be freed only to be married.

John sighs; "I forgive you for not telling me the truth. You don't need to be forgiven for being raped. You...were willing to pretend that your child was mine. For the sake of my marriage."

[desecrated]

Sherlock looks down and nods.
Shedding a few tears in relief.

John is so understanding. Kind...too kind.

[captainwatson]

"Is it not...difficult? With Sophie? She doesn't remind you too much of what you went through?"

A lot of women have abortions for such traumas.

[desecrated]

Sherlock bites his lip.
"Sometimes. But I'd never want...her to not ...be here. Happy."

"I was worried she'd sell her if I told you anything..."

He didn't really think about it being like rape, exactly. It was compulsory. Required of him.

[captainwatson]

"I wouldn't have let her." John says furiously.

Sherlock nods. He won't defy his betters on the flight. But if Mistress wants something she will have it, regardless of John's protests. At least. Where they used to be. Hopefully Canada will be different.

She could have hid it from John, if she wanted. Perhaps he shouldn't fear her so much, but he thinks there's very little she's capable of.
