unexpected domesticity shipping meme. you never thought you'd have a home, at least not one you can call completely yours, no strings attached and no one lording above you or controlling you. you may not have even known what a "home" truly is, or thought you wanted one. now, there is a touch of domesticity in your life, no matter what things are like otherwise, because you have a home, though you may not have a house proper.
most importantly, you now have someone to share this new facet of life with - a partner. similar to you or completely different, relationship unspoken or unrealized, heavily romantic or understated, they are slowly but surely becoming someone indispensable to you. you never could have seen this coming. and, of course, with domesticity comes a certain amount of intimacy, perhaps even the ultimate physical intimacy...you may be open to that already or you're working up to it when you'd hardly considered it before.
whether your situation is for the long term as it stands, could end at any moment, or a mere disguise you're using to lay low, you're getting comfortable. how does that make you feel? will you it accept a new lease on life - or will you sabotauge yourself before someone else does?

[There it was, the shock and horror, so familiar! Giggles bubbled in Henry's chest, waiting for the recoil. But then she thinks instead, holding them tighter.
Woah.
She really wasn't a human, after all.]
Not really. I mean... I don't really look back enough to have regrets. But I know killing hurts you, and other monsters, so I just killed plants instead.
[And to keep her from finding out about his violent impulses, but since she's trying, then Henry can do the same.
ASGORE. A name she warned them about before, a monster who would kill humans. Understandable, to Henry's eyes, since they learned a bit about the barrier and how it came about. Did Toriel think he threw his life away by killing?]
Mm, but he's not killing for the fun of it like me. It'd probably take a lot for a monster to kill at all.
[What a strange human...it panged her heart to hear such giggles. Not because of their glee, but how similar they felt to her other child. Her adopted one.]
Plants? Well...I can't say I like killing whole-heartedly...but it is a step isn't it? Yes. I think so...
[With Asgore, the queen felt his murders were much more than just the act. It was cowardice. It was refusal to find another way. She couldn't deal with that simpering obstinacy.]
For some, yes. But with others...it takes a push to drive them. And once they go down that path...they must make their own choice to stop.
It's up to him whether he wants to stop. Just like you.
ikr. ut has killing as a Choice where fe's recurring theme is about the reality of war and fighting
[Henry listens quietly, chewing over what Toriel's saying. She doesn't seem too horrified after that initial reaction, which is. Nice. Weird, but nice. She didn't push them away, or call them names, or yell at them, just. Quietly talking, like Mustafa always did.]
Well I'm not gonna kill monsters, and snails don't always cut it.
[Nyahaha, cut!
A choice to stop... Well, even some humans had such pacifist ideals, even lived them. If a push was required for a monster to kill, then no wonder Toriel was so upset at first. Monsters - and Toriel - clearly found killing much more horrifying. Even if Henry didn't feel the same, they could understand how others felt.]
Okay, so murder is less common here, and more difficult, so it's seen as a totally bad thing... Weird, haha! I don't want you or anyone here to be sad, Toriel, so I don't mind using plants and my own blood for my dark magic, and I won't kill any monsters or humans down here.
Unless they're trying to kill. Then I'll murder them first.
[There was being pacifist and then there was being just plain stupid. Henry was not one to die for ideals, or they'd be worm food already.]
[It's a sad reality on the battlefield, but this place wasn't that, so Henry could do things her way and still be safe]
I dunno, I was never as good at scrying or augury. But if someone's coming at me with a weapon to stick in my ribs, well, I'm not gonna invite them to tea!
[Henry giggles, but pats Toriel's arm because the chances of that are pretty slim.]
[She felt grateful she could steer that conversation into something more manageable. Of course, it would be easier if the human would stop surprising her with such harsh curves.
She sighed...the subject already hard for her to approach.]
[Human or monster, it seemed Henry would always be full of surprises.]
But you have seen them fight, right? They're not like monsters: when humans fight to kill, then death is usually the only way to stop them. Maybe if it's just one or two humans and a lot of your allies, but even assassins are hard to keep alive and still defeat.
On a battlefield? Impossible. If your opponent won't kill you then their ally will. Just as my friends would save me from death.
So if someone is trying to kill me? Of course I'd kill them first, that's what a human has to expect when they try to kill! Otherwise they'd never take the risk. Unless you're really, really good at it, being nonlethal just ends in dying, so there's death either way!
[That should explain things, right? Toriel wouldn't be the kind of person to demand they die. Civilians usually had the hardest time with the realities of war, but Henry would patiently explain it to her for as long as it needs! Henry snuggled closer, sure that they would be understood, even if Toriel didn't agree with it.]
this is really interesting bc undertale and fire emblem have very different approaches to murder

If only she could find that funny. She never wanted to excercise that last resort option. Kill or be killed, she didn't like that.]
Yes! It's...very much like that. I just want your own safety, after all--
[That makes her own heart run cold for a bit.]
Do you think it would ever come to that?
[Of course, there's always the possibility, but she wanted to think there was another way...]

Then…
[Toriel always tried to think of a way to stop violence from happening.]
We'll just have to make sure you won't get in that situation, right?
no subject
Sure thing!
Have you ever seen humans fighting each other?
[Just a bag of curveballs today, but since they were on the subject, Henry wanted to get things out. What are proper transitions.]
no subject
She sighed...the subject already hard for her to approach.]
Not...exactly...close, though.
[She thought back to her other human child.]
