[Contrary to popular belief, Kara doesn't have more instincts than the average human. She just has different ones. Which she isn't always very good at listening to. But ever since Adam had shown up and she'd, well, kinda fallen for him a little bit, or more than a little bit, she'd felt like she was being watched. And not by Winn, at least no more than usual, and not by James, it was someone else, someone really good at not being spotted.

It couldn't be Ms. Grant. Obviously not. Why would Ms. Grant want to watch her? She'd already managed to wiggle her way out of the Supergirl suspicions, so it couldn't be that, and if it wasn't that, what other reason would she have? It was definitely Kara's imagination that Ms. Grant wasn't turning back to her desk as soon as Kara turned her back, but was watching her walk away every time she left her office. And if it looked like Ms. Grant's eyes were on her through the glass when Kara glanced up, she was sure it was just...concentration. Thinking hard. About something.

[ oikawa hears it from their teammates first.

he tries not to think about it, about iwaizumi receiving chocolate from a girl, about him "being smooth" and making her blush. he tries not to imagine it during practice, to ignore the way that kindaichi gives him a hearty slap on the back because he's "the man". of course iwaizumi gets chocolates. why wouldn't he? oikawa's serves are a little too vicious, a little too concentrated at some invisible target. he laughs it off in that innocuous way of his, rubs the back of his head and croons out excuse after excuse.

it's an easy enough facade to keep going until the team starts to filter out, showers having been taken and pads tucked into lockers. it isn't unusual for oikawa to wait for iwaizumi, especially since they walk home together more often than not. what's unusual is the deliberate way he isn't looking at him, attention directed anywhere but him since the start of practice.

it's not a great feeling, the thick weight that coils tight in his chest, sticks to his ribs in a way that leaves a bitter taste on his tongue. what's worse is the way his muscles are wound so taut with tension that it almost surprises him that he can move with the ease and grace he does when it finally comes to a head, when he crowds iwaizumi against the lockers across from theirs. ]

Was she cute? I bet she was cute. [ he hates the way his voice sounds, sugar sweet and toxic. iwaizumi's the most important person to him, so why can't he just be happy for him? funny, how there are hundreds of reasons that spring to mind and he doesn't want to voice any of them lest they become real. ] It wouldn't have been such a big deal if she wasn't, you know? So, congratulations, Iwa-chan.
