Jill had been a bit surprised when she had been asked to be a TA, while she was aware that she wasn't a bad student and she managed to place on a very decent place among her peers, she never thought it was going to end with her being offered the position. But as surprising as it was, she had accepted the offer because the teacher that had offered it was one of her favorites and she had managed to Ace that class without much trouble (which was probably the reason she was offered the position to begin with).

Since she had started as a TA, she was seeing Professor Todd more often than what she had when she had taken his class, since the professor she was helping with was in the same department as him. She always made sure to greet him politely or help if he needed it (which wasn't often), it was, she supposed the after effect of that last of class when she...had gone back to his house and well it was what it was, at least it wasn't awkward and that was great.

The only downside she supposed was that sometimes her duties (grading most of the times) made her stay a bit more late than usual and it always made her nervous when she had to leave during the night, some fears never truly died after all. She had just gathered all her things and was making her way down the hall, at a bit of a fast pace, when she saw Professor Todd ready to leave as well. "Professor."

Their time together over the winter break a while ago had been short, but pleasant. Their little secret had stayed safe and neither had had problems after it, least of all him since wraith often had quick "flings" with one another.

Still, this year's batch of students were either too dumb, too stressed, didn't care, or a combination of all of the above for the quality of work was nothing like what Jill and her classmates had impressed him with. Nothing he could do, he told his students on the first day and once a week for a month at the start of term that if they couldn't keep up and they didn't want a poor grade, it was better to drop out rather than hang around.

It'd been a long day and he was looking forward to getting home for the weekend, relaxation with a few books or a new movie seemed to be in order.

At the call, he turned to find Jill making her way towards him. "Good evening" he greeted.

She smiled a bit, feeling a bit less nervous since it was a good distraction to speak with someone at the moment. "Evening, sir."

No one was around at the moment and even if they were, it's not as if it was rare for a student to speak with a professor was it? It was something normal and she held to that a bit. She stopped near his side, her fingers sliding a bit against the strap of her messenger bag. "It's rare for you to stay this late."

"I had a lot of work to take care of. I'm heading home now." he answered.

He lifted his head a bit, listening to the noise of the basketball game going on in the gym nearby. Sports had confused him quite a lot during his first bit of time here. After all, you didn't get to eat or kill the rival team. So what was the point of running, kicking, throwing, or dribbling a ball up and down a court?

Humans loved their sports though and undoubtedly there'd be much celebration tonight, so it was best to get moving before the hordes of winners or home losers swamped them.

"Heading home yourself?" he asked.

She nodded in understanding, it was the same reason she had been forced to stay so late after all, even though she had a sheer hate for it. "Ah yes."

Jill had forgotten the blasted game was today, not that she was interested on it since the only sport to draw her attention was her own and basketball had nothing to do with track. She moved to slip her cellphone from her bag and sighed. "Roommate is probably in the game, so I need to get going before it gets even darker."

Slipping her phone back on her bag, she looked up and shifted the strap of her bag a bit. "If I'm lucky I won't have to wait long at the bus stop."

While they were no longer teacher and student, it was still frowned upon to have relations with other staff members, so they had to be discreet about...things.

Her old professor nodded and walked out with her. Only when they were outside did Todd ask, "Want me to drive you home?"

Or, if Jill wanted, come back to his place. He wasn't opposed to having company for the night. But if she wasn't interested, he wouldn't feel hurt.

She might have felt just a tad bit relieved at the offer, it was more than likely with the game going on and all she might have found people that used the game as a valid excuse to get wasted and she will rather not deal with that.

"If that's not an inconvenience for you, sir."

Todd shook his head, getting his keys out and leading the way to his car. "I need to make a stop at the grocery store anyway and your place is not far from one."

He'd visited her place once, to drop her off after their weekend together, but he knew the way and he did need to go to the store to pick up food for the weekend.

“Well in that case I accept the offer and I thank you for it, sir.” It spared her from dealing with the dreaded public transportation and what not. She followed him to his car and since no one was around, there really wasn’t a need to be that subtle about it.

Todd got in after her and started it.

"How's the teacher's assistant job coming along?" he asked, pulling out and heading for the main road. "You must be keeping busy if you haven't had time to come visit me" he teased.

The road was fairly quiet, the game at the college keeping most locals there, the rest heading out for dinner or late errands.

A deep sigh escaped her lips at that question. "It's going there I suppose, I can't complain much I guess." Or maybe more like she shouldn't since this was a good learning experience or something.

"Well then I apologize for my lack of visits, sir, I guess I will need to make up for it somehow, right?"

"No need to. Your job and studies are far more important than pleasantry visits." he replied "While I enjoyed our time together, you have no need to feel obligated to visit because of it."

"Although, while I didn't have a position open, I'm surprised you didn't try and get one under me. You did well in my classes after all, prefer a different subject?"

“Oh no, it wouldn’t have anything to do with our time together, I did enjoyed the visits asides from that, so it’s not as if I am obligated to do so due to that.” He was interesting and she always learned something from their talks so it was a win/win situation for her.

She looked at him for a few seconds, before she shrugged a little bit. “Well I would have liked that, but there wasn’t any position for your class and I did got offered this one at the end of last term, much to my surprise.”

"No, I didn't. I prefer working alone in this sort of work. Perhaps if I should decide to change jobs I'll take on an assistant in order for them to take my place." he replied.

But it would likely not be for some time, as his classes were booked full all the time. When someone dropped out, another quickly took their place.

He drove a little while longer before stopping the car in front of her place.

"Here you are." he said, "I'll wait until you've gone inside." There'd been some nasty news going on in the neighborhood recently, it was best to wait until she was safe inside rather than drive off and leave her alone.

There was a small nod at that comment, it did made sense for him to act like that. After all, the way she saw it, it really didn’t look as if he needed a lot of help to be able to handle his work, and a TA might only get in the way.

When stopped in front of her place, she started to make sure she had all of her things with her. “Thank you so much, sir.” She moved to unbuckle her seat belt. “I really appreciate you doing this and I hope you have a much more exciting weekend than me.”

"No major plans except to catch up on some reading..." he replied with a smile, but then noticed a shady figure not far away down the sidewalk.

"Don't get out." he warned before she could open the door. "There's someone over there."

He could get out and confront the man, chase him off, but technically he wasn't doing anything wrong and the wraith needed to avoid trouble. The man could easily lie to the police and say the wraith attacked him, and be believed.

Driving around the area until the guy left would likely raise suspicions among the neighbors.

"When does your roommate return?" he asked.

She froze at the tone of his voice and alright his words didn’t helped at all. Jill took a slight glimpse at the shady figure on the sidewalk and she couldn’t help the reaction she had to it, her breathing quickened a bit and she was sure she had gone pale.

After what had happened the last time she had seen a damn bloody shady figure, she wasn’t keen on repeating that once again. She curled her fingers into fists and pressed her nails against her palms, to focus on the here and now like a therapist has once told her.

“…Sunday. She’s going to spend the weekend with her boyfriend.”

"You'll be all right." he assured her. "I can stay until she returns, or you can stay with me and I'll bring you back on Sunday."

He'd prefer his place, but they were already here, and his place was nearly an hour away. Besides, she'd have to go up and get clothes for the weekend anyway so it was probably best he remain here with her.

She took a deep breath and nodded, last she had heard that person was still in jail and not likely to get out anytime soon and spiteful as it sounded, she hoped he rotted there.

The offer surprised her a bit, but then again maybe it shouldn’t have, right? She looked at the shady figure that was still lingering around and looked back at him. “Wouldn’t you…feel more comfortable in your place?”

He gave a slight shrug. "We're already here." he pointed out, pulling the car up into the spot usually occupied by her roommate's vehicle and got out. He pulled his bag out from the back seat and closed the door, coming around to her side and waiting for her to lead the way up to her apartment, throwing the stalker a look.

Jill slowly nodded and waited for him to get out of the car, trying to ignore whoever the person once that still hadn’t moved and seemed to be looking at them now, she could feel their gaze on her and it only helped to make her a bit nervous. She tried not to look to hasty into leading them into the apartment she shared with her roommate.

It was a rather big one, since it was able to have two separate rooms for them and she had to thank her roommate for that since this place had belonged to her parents and Jill had been lucky to be able to find the place and help with the rent. “Thank you.”

Todd stuck close beside her until they were out of eyesight of the man and they went inside.

It was a cozy place, plenty of room for two. He expected a pet of some sort, but he supposed not, the life of a student and teacher's assistant was rough and would be unfair to leave an animal alone for long periods of time.

He went to the window and peeled the blinds back just enough to see down onto the street. The guy was still there, perhaps waiting to see if the wraith was only staying for coffee. No, he'd stay until her roommate came home on Sunday. Shame he couldn't get a good look at him, then he could file an anonymous report.

Todd turned to Jill, fixing the blind back into place, "I don't know about you but I'm hungry." he grinned. "Got anything except ramen and leftover pizza?" he joked, as students tended to go cheap for their diets.

She took the time to put her coat away in the small closet they had near the door and then moved to put her bag on the couch, she didn’t missed when he went to the window and she was sure the man was probably there, which made her a bit nervous about the whole situation and it will be something she might need to discuss with her roommate once she returned.

A small smile appeared on her face. “Surprisingly enough we do. Our coach insists that we need to eat more than that, so we try to keep more than just that.” She moved towards the kitchen, before stopping and turning to look at him. “Unless…you prefer to order something?”

He shook his head. "No, I trust you'll come up with something." he said, taking a look around the place, locking the door in case the fool was bold enough to try and come up

The wraith eventually picked up his bag and sat on the couch to check through his schedule for next week while she made them dinner. If she wanted help, she need only ask.
