1. Soothing touch - what better way to sooth your lover than to make love to them and show them that no matter what other people say, you're not going anywhere.

3. Won't let you go - you need your lover to realize that you won't let them go, no matter what.
4. Back together - you broke up for a bit, but whatever it is between you two, you can't stay apart.

4. Recorded - you're not really interested in this forbidden love affair, but you must do it or you'll face some tough consequences.
5. Insult - you're cornered by those who disapprove of your relationship, hearing how filthy you are.

Ending
1. Left alone - you woke up to your lover trying to slip away in the night because of the strain of the relationship. Do you let them go or try and fight for it?

4. Parting ways - both of you have decided to part ways. It's just so much easier.

[He laughs a bit, not surprised but airy, as he looks away again and idly picks up his fork.

One moment she's the intellectual, the next she's -- something else altogether. He'd almost worry he's in over his head with this. But that's one of things about this whole unlikely situation that he finds...excites him.]

If you had told me a year ago - a few months ago, even - that this would be happening, that I would be doing this, I'd have never believed it.

It's not often in life I find that I'm happy to be surprised by the entirely unexpected.

I have found that the entirely unexpected has been both exciting and interesting. [Hermione replies softly. She too could have not imagined this situation just a few months ago. But he excites her in a way that is quite intoxicating]

So much of what I have done, have tried to do, has always been planned... [He trails off, though.] But perhaps the less said about my youth the better. Under these circumstances, it isn't always nice to be reminded how long ago it was.

I can understand that. [While she didn't have other people planning her life, Hermione still thrived on having a planned-out schedule]

Hmm. [His only response is that acknowledging sound - he picks up his fork and slowly, purposefully begins to tuck into his food. Though he keeps glancing to her all the while.

He's been driving the conversation for a bit - now he's curious to see what if anything she might have to say.]

[Hermione is content in the silence for a moment. It allows her to collect her thoughts. And to also study the man across from him]

In my free time, I have been working on creating a few new spells.

Have you? Really?

[His interest genuine, he lifts his gaze to watch her keenly, prompting her to go on, though he still pokes at the food before him with his utensils.]

No easy task, I imagine. What sort of spell-work have you been designing?

There were many spells that I found useful during my last year at school. I have been working to register a couple of them.

[She wonders if his appetite is still weak after everything that had happened to him.]

And I would like to register that potion that I created, when you needed it.

[At that reminder of what had happened to him, he feels a slight conflicting of emotion. It's strange and terrible to think what very nearly became his fate.]

Do you think it will be repeatable? That potion. The ritual, at the time, seemed rather involved. Complex.

There were a lot of emotional ties to the potion and the ritual. [Hermione agrees softly] But I created something so beautiful. And I just want to see if it is possible to duplicate the results.

I am taking my time. There is no rush this time.

No. There isn't.

[He agrees, just as soft.]

It would be nice, I suppose. For those who did not want to be transformed to have an option. Some way back, from that unfortunate state...

[This is sounding dangerously like social activism, for him. Or worse, charity. Caring about society's unfortunates. He feels instinctively nauseated at himself.

He can't voice any of it aloud, because he knows her reaction would not be a happy one. But he can't hide that he is having conflicted, clouded thoughts.]

That was what my original thoughts were. [Hermione knows that typically, such ideas of helping others would not be his first thoughts. But it is nice that those thoughts did come to his mind now. Even if it was difficult for him to express]

Magical abilities are so precious. I would not want anyone to suffer as we did, by not having access to their natural abilities.

Besides, we both came out of our experiences stronger magic users.

That's one way of looking at it, yes. I suppose that we did.

[She was the one who did all the heavy lifting - true, a lot of the earlier research was his. But in the end he had been literally unable to cast the spell for himself.

He finds he will never be able to take his magic for granted again. A comforting, easy notion of god-given superiority has been in him destroyed.]

It's so important to you, isn't it? Being able to help other people?

I know how hard it can be to have to fight for respect in our world. [Especially as a Muggleborn witch]

And because of my intelligence, I always struggled to get along with most people.

I had help, which made me stronger. I like being able to help others. Support them so they too can find their own paths.

I see.

[He can't entirely control what his expression is doing now: he had a brief look of derision and disdain at her mention of 'help'. Charity, of course, of course - he's had so many years of looking down at those that need charity.

But he has respect for her, at least, her passion - and a better understanding now, if a highly reluctant one. He makes his face relax again, but in his inner turmoil his look is more tired than he would like.]

You want to pay it forward. That is...admirable. Truly.

[He gives an odd, quiet life. Chuckling at a private joke that's not very funny.]

You know what a favorite saying of my father was? 'Life isn't fair'.

That's what he always brought up, what he went with, whenever someone mentioned to him that he had been born...blessed, with his money, and his privilege, and his connections. Whenever they tried to hint that maybe he should give a little more, spread it out. Take pity on all those beneath him.

'Life isn't fair.' It's the only explanation he ever needed.

Life isn't fair. [Hermione can't argue with that fact. There are people that were lost in the war, that she still struggles to understand why they were taken. Even with all her efforts to protect those important to her, there were those who got hurt. Her relationship with her parents are still strained because of the magic she had used on them.]

There are people who are born to privilege and are given respect, because of that privilege. And those people who struggle to earn respect.

But unfortunately, those who gain respect from privilege... when you take away their money, their power, their connections -- they lose everything.

You had to experience that. [And Hermione is sure that Lucius' father would have never helped his son]

You walked in the shoes of those who had to struggle.

[The less said about his father, just now, perhaps the better. Lucius is shaken a bit by the realization this is the first time he's spoken about his parents with her. The first time in years maybe that he's really thought about his parents at all.

He wonders if Hermione, being the way she is, will press the subject as one of interest.]

There are those who would say I had deserved it. [He can't stop these words, which escape him in a resentful mutter.] I know that there are, that they would.

I'd imagine the inclination of most, of many, would have been to point and laugh. That you found it in you to actually have sympathy instead was - unexpected, and even remarkable.

Perhaps, instead we should consider the circumstance as a learning experience, so you could become a stronger, more experienced Warlock.

[Hermione takes a sip of her beverage.]

There are many who would have used the ingredients that were supplied to create a number of other potions that would have done you harm.

I guess you were lucky it was me.

[His expression changes rapidly, again.]

Yes. I was lucky.

I was very, very lucky.

[He reaches across the table, again seeking her hand.]

For all that I have suffered...in a way I have been very lucky, of late.

I consider myself lucky too. [Hermione grasps his reaching hand, with a gentle kindness]

I am glad I have gotten to know you in a new light.

...Are you, though? Are you really?

[It probably sounds odd, but. He has to know. He has to hear her say it.]

I am very lucky. [Hermione reaches out with her free hand to touch his face. A brief gesture of her affection, even with the lack of privacy]

[Right now, he isn't thinking about their privacy. If his feelings aren't entirely happy, and aren't entirely focused on her, they are also not neither of those things.

He smiles a bit at her touch. Not pulling away, but focusing on the feel of her gentle skin.]

You know, in the time that we have been sitting here, I have said multiple things that I could have never foreseen myself saying to anyone. Or even thinking to myself.

It seems like as long as I can remember, it has always been important to me that I keep my thoughts...controlled. To the point that I aren't always aware of my...my own feelings. It's been safer. More powerful.

[But it's made more than a few things harder too.]

You don't have to hold back around me. There is still a power to being free with your thoughts and your emotions.

I wonder how powerful you could be, if you did.

Interesting. You equate being emotional with power. Suffice to say, that's not how I was raised.

It's never been what I have believed.
