Kissing Scars
![]() |
Despite the romanticism surrounding the emotion, it can be difficult to be loved completely — not just the beautiful parts of us, but also the sad parts, the injured parts, the hidden and less-than-pleasant parts. There are marks on us, both physical and mental, that we'd often rather forget. The mental ones can just be easier to hide. As for physical scars, they can be off of our minds some of the time, but that's exceedingly hard to do in more intimate, close moments. Whether it's to your dismay or otherwise, your partner is not looking away and ignoring your scars. To the contrary, they're providing attention in a way most heavily associated with tenderness: kissing. It may be an accidental slip off target, or they may be trying to show you that what you've done and who you've been don't matter to them now. Does the gesture touch you? Make the walls come up once again because of the memories that are dredged from somewhere you'd rather no go? A mixture of both? The wound has long closed, yet the pains remains; these days, however, there's someone who may be willing to help you bear it.

He was right, about her not wanting to go through something like that again. Especially thinking about how Sun had just lost Blake, it made it even harder to want to do anything that would put her in that position again. But she also was well aware that with how he'd been acting lately, actually respecting her and just being her friend instead of constantly trying to swindle her into going on a date with him, she'd actually started to appreciate his company. The idiot had made her think she would probably miss him a little whether she let him have a date or not.
That he was still going to like her, that he was going to like her whether he could be with her or not, that was.. a little unnervingly touching. Weiss looked a little uncomfortable for a moment, then sighed. ]
One date. One. If I don't like it, I don't have to go on another. And just so we're clear: it's that you actually listened to me. You kept asking me out before regardless of how I felt and how many times I said no. This time, you showed that you actually cared what I had to say and you've actually gotten to get to know me instead of just hitting on me because I'm pretty.
[ Weiss closes her eyes, looking irritated as she adds: ] I'm probably going to be annoyed if you disappear from this place anyway.

He supposed he could thank his reliable habit of impulsively stating his thoughts, regardless of how confident he felt. He was just glad he'd managed to do so without falling back on his pick-up lines. He was sure that wouldn't have gone over well with Weiss.
So he didn't regret it, but he did visibly seem to brace himself for whatever response he'd receive from Weiss. He tried to make sure he wouldn't be too disappointed. Judging from her expression, her answer probably wasn't the one he was hoping for. Oh well, he could handle it, as long as it didn't make anything weird between them for longer than a week.]
Date...?
[He doesn't immediately react to her answer. He just sits there, staring dumbly, but when he reassembles the words other than 'date' into sentences in his head, his eyes light up and he literally stands up just to jump.]
Weiss! I-- Of course! One date. And even if you don't like it, I'll make sure you have a good time. It's the least I can do, since you're agreeing. I understand. I wasn't being fair to you before, so...thanks for giving me this chance.
[He's still practically fidgeting in the same place with nervous excitement, but his smile softens and he looks at the floor.] I can understand you wanting to date Jaune Arc before you run out of time.

You realize if I don't like it, it's because I'm not having a good time, right?
[ That just seemed like an odd thing to say to Weiss, a quirked eyebrow poignantly emphasizing her question. ]
And I'm... sorry. That I was so mean about it before. I'm not entirely convinced you didn't deserve it back then but you don't deserve it now.

[An apology from Weiss? His frown is more perplexed than usual, before he ends up holding his arm and looking to the side.]
Don't worry about it. I was being a jerk, so I should be sorry too. That makes us even. I'm just grateful that you're giving me a chance now.

Was that what you wanted to do? Confess?
[ It was a little odd that he'd asked first, but after she'd rejected him over and over she could understand why. ] Where do you want to go?
no subject
I want to take you somewhere nice. Then, I thought we could wing it from there. [He has a few things in mind, but it seems more romantic to keep her guessing a little. Or at least better than implying he's been agonizing and researching for this for hours]

[ She raises an eyebrow at the vagueness. But he said nice, so at least she knows how to dress. Probably. There's a lot of uncertainty here for Weiss, namely because she doesn't know Jaune very well even if she's started getting to know him better. ]
Did you have a time and date?
no subject
[He's learned more about Weiss than she has about him. He's been debating over telling her how he got into Beacon. While he dreads her potential reaction, he wants her to know this is how much he respects her.]
Is tomorrow too soon? Maybe around 3?
no subject
Tomorrow's fine.

Great!

[ Honest question. She's not saying no, but she wants to know what his thought process there is. ]

[ Weiss looks like she's definitely trying to decide if that's creepy or not. But she's.. trying to be nicer, trying to give him a chance. ]
One kiss. You have to actually complete the first date if you want more than that.
no subject
[He beams. He lets Weiss be the one to make or ruin his day, but right now she's made it.]
All right. Thank you.
I'm not sure how not to compete a first date, but-- [Glancing down, he gingerly takes Weiss' left hand in his. He carefully watches her expression and tries brushing his lips over her scar.] I'm really looking forward to it.

I can't believe you had the chance to kiss me and you went for that. [ She didn't look displeased at all, though. ]
no subject
You mean after basically begging you to go out with me since we met? I'm being serious, Weiss. I really like you.
no subject
[ Weiss puts her hand on his shoulder softly, then uses it to balance on her toes to give him a light kiss on the cheek. Asmall token. ]
Typically more than I care to admit but this time I may be hoping I was.

I hope you can be glad about being wrong for once.
no subject
Don't make me regret it.
