All I want for Christmas is you

...or something like that. The winter can be cold and lonely, but if you have someone to share it with, it can be the most wonderful time of the year. This meme is pretty simple and straightforward: shippy situations for all your cold-weather needs. From the cute to the hot to the sweet to the cool, it's all here for you. Don't be shy! Get your Christmastime/holiday wonder on and tag someone completely new! It's like a gift you didn't know you wanted!

1. Date: Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you're stuck indoors. Go out and do something! Maybe this weather means the restaurants won't be so packed...

2. Ice Skating: Get on your feet and do some ice dancing! Hopefully, at least one of you knows what to do.

3. Playing in the Snow: It's not just for little kids. Make snow angels, snowmen, or indulge in a snowball fight! You can always warm up together afterwards.

4. Shopping: With some company, holiday shopping can be a bit more bearable. Unless, of course, one of you was dragged along against your will.

5. Baking: Cookies, cakes, pies, and candy! This is the season for making sweets, and two sets of hands are better than one. Then, enjoy your hard work.

6. Holiday Confession: Sure, it's not as traditional as a Valentine's Day confession, but telling someone you care for them around the holidays can be just as romantic.

8. Naughty or Nice: So have you been a good boy or girl this year? If not, you'll get punished. Of course, Santa may not be able to come, so your lover will step in to dole out the "coal."

10. Just Love: Nothing kinky or overly sexy here. The two of you are inside on a cold day, and you just want to be together. Throw some logs on the fire and have a romantic evening by the fireplace. If you want to get really fancy, throw down a few furs and lay naked on them.

11. Thank You: Thank you notes for gifts are so cliche. Tell your significant other that you love your diamond ring another way.

"Oh did you have to? Every time someone says something like that..."

He shakes his head. Really, it's just asking for trouble.

"I think I'd enjoy 'one night' of a peaceful rest."

River smirks to herself, then glancing up at him out of the corner of her eye. “Really? You wouldn’t get.. bored?” She says the word like it’s taboo. Boredom and them, don’t seem to get on very well. “However would we keep ourselves entertained?” she asks, shaking her head as though this is some terrible tragedy they haven’t accounted for.

He smirks in return. "We can always find something. But, with 24 years... Rest doesn't have to mean boring. I have a lot of reading I've been meaning to do."

What? He likes to read.s

"Oh! Reading!" River teases in return, because twenty four years of reading isn't exactly going out with a bang. "I don't think I'll be able to handle all that excitement." She's playing with him, of course, as told by the cheeky grin on her lips.

"Look, you're the one who asked if I was 'born boring, or if I had to work at it.' Obviously, it's a bit of both."

Because he can tease her right back.

"Mmm, til I came along," she suggests cheekily, aiding the banter with a playful little bump of her hip into his. What? She knows she makes his life more interesting. She enters with an explosion of hair and 'spoilers!' and off they go on their next adventure. That's what she loves.

"Careful. I've got an old body now. You might throw my hip out of joint, if you keep that up."

Because, well, why not joke about ages.

"And we have yet to see how boring or not my live is with you in it. I mean, I have this whole personality that you're just getting to know."

River raises a playful eyebrow. "Shall we find out?" she teases, because that's what she does, and there's no hiding that smirk on her face.

"Well, you are rather different to your last body, I'll give you that." Where he was youthful and bouncy, he's now grizzled and grumpy. Still, she likes to think there are some traits that'll always carry through.

He takes a step closer to her again. Because to him, her question is as much a request as it is a dare. His voice drops a little. As he approaches. "I was a fool back then. I hope I've improved."

And his lips twitch a few times before deciding to spread into a smile.

River raises a knowing eyebrow, letting him take charge of the playfulness for a moment. She's learnt already that it might be a little rarer in this body compared to the last, and she's not going to shut it down.

"I'll let you know," she murmurs in response, giving him a considering look up and down before she playfully shrugs.

He comes closer to her, not quite close enough to touch her. Mostly, he's teasing her now. Because he can.

"Will you? I shall count on that..."

It's working, especially the whole almost touching thing. River is quite the tactile person, especially around the Doctor, and it's inevitable that she starts to lean in just a little.

"Oh, absolutely," she promises, voice that little quieter, for their closeness.

"Well, then I shouldn't keep you waiting..."

And with that he turns and takes off towards the TARDIS without a look back. He really can be a tease when he wants to. Though, in this case it's more just him.

River's left hanging, mouth slightly agape when he sets off back towards the TARDIS. She looks after him for a long moment, before she blows a sigh and follows in after him, shaking her head. Maybe still something of a fool at times.

Stepping inside behind him, she closes the door, watching him go ahead. Just taking a moment to witness him, this new body, in its rightful home. She smiles rather nostalgically.

As well she should. And she might even note that he's giving it a little more welly than usual. He still hasn't quite gotten over the fact that he has the TARDIS back after so many years separated. Besides, he has an audience.

"I have a little place... I hope you don't mind."

After all, changing his clothes wasn't the only reason for his delay in meeting up with her for dinner.

When the materialisation sequence completes, grins. "Shall we?"

She does notice, and she smiles to herself at the thought. She rather likes the fact her presence might warrant a little more of a performance - he knows she likes it after all, 'hot' was the term she liked to use.

"We're going somewhere?" she then asks, her eyes lighting up a little. "So much already! You really are spoiling me."

As the TARDIS lands, she glances at the door, before back to him. "Hold on, do I need to change again?" she asks, because several outfit changes in one day is perfectly alright with her.

"Oh, this isn't for spoiling. This one is for practicality."

He shrugs. He did think of what they'd need to remain planet-side.

"You don't need to change. Not yet. You might want to later, who knows."

He makes his way over to the door and holds out his hand, hoping she'll take it.

River raises a curious eyebrow as he comes towards her, but her smile widens like she's sharing a private joke with herself.

"Who knows," she muses lightheartedly, before glancing down at the hand he offers her. Her smile softens as she goes to take it, her hand easily slipping into his and taking hold without a moment's hesitation.

"Lead the way," she tells him, nodding at the door.

He gives a gentle squeeze to her hand and grins like a loon. He opens the TARDIS doors....

The TARDIS is parked in a little garden next to a medium-sized family home. He pulls out a key and hands it to her.

"I'll let you do the honours."

Nope, he hasn't seen it. That's not really how he works.

Following him out of the TARDIS, River is intrigued to find herself stepping out onto grass, before she soon notices just where they are. The surprise on her face is evident as she slows besides him, hand still in his as she gazes up at the house before them. Her mind is already trying to work out what's going on, when a key appears into view.

Blinking, she looks at it for a short moment, before turning to look at him.

"Doctor.. ? What is this?" Because surely it's not for them, even though all evidence is pointing that way, and the beginnings of a smile on her face suggest she's realising that.

He shrugs and makes a sweeping gesture to the house.

"What do you think it is? You didn't think we'd just be nomads during our twenty-four year night, did you?"

"Well, I thought.." she fades off, glancing back at the house, before at him. She'd assumed the TARDIS would be their home during their time here, it was certainly big enough, and had everything they could ever possibly need. She'd not thought otherwise. But now, stood in front of a house that's now their own, she's a little overwhelmed.

She blinks back the beginning of tears, laughing a little at her own behaviour. "I just.. I've never had a house before." Not like this, not properly. And she'd certainly never think she'd have a house with him. It was a life she thought she'd never had, and she'd been okay with that, she'd accepted that just as she'd accepted so much about her life that was different to others.

The Doctor tilts his head in thought as she mentioned never having a house. "I thought..."

He shrugs a little. Doesn't matter what he thought. River clearly hadn't considered it a home. Not like this.

"I... Have I got it wrong? I thought if we were going to make a proper go of it, we should do it properly..."

And he's thinking he's messed it all up again. Honestly. What good is it to look sort of his age if he still gets it wrong all the time?

If he's thinking of her time on Earth as a child, she's never considered that to be a true home. It'd been a means to be close to her parents, and bide her time til she could meet, and murder, the Doctor. This.. is very different. Having a house like this, a place to share with him, when she's spent so much of her life either in a prison cell or moving from place to place, is something very special to her.

When he worries, she quickly turns to him, her eyebrows lifting. "No, no!" she insists, laying her hand on his arm, trying to soothe any doubt. "You haven't," she assure him in a softer voice, a smile spreading her lips while her eyes glisten still with happiness.

"I just never thought we'd have anything like this. You really are full of surprises, sweetie."

He smiles fondly at her correction.

"Good! Then stop moping about and go open the door."

Right, well. His compassion didn't last long in light of excitement.
