Nominally, his job is Cynric Invorian's head of security. Most of the time, that means he's somewhere within shouting distance of his employer.

Sometimes, though, he leaves for days at a time. Partially for legitimate business reasons and partially for reasons Cynric is better off not looking at too closely. But they've always had an understanding.

Tonight, he's come back without any fanfare though it's entirely possible one of the AIs gave Cynric a heads-up. Julien has just gotten very good at pretending the AIs aren't around. Which is impressive considering that Cynric is practically the godfather of that technology.

The man in question will find Julien stretched out on his couch, half undressed and dozing.

[ Nate tends to live on base with the rest of the Avengers. But there will be weeks at a time - when things are relatively quiet - that he'll return to an apartment registered in another name. In New York. The city he tried his best to save and now can't get away from it.

Or the people in it. One in particular he had made it a point to convince himself there was nothing there worth preserving. They lived in two different walks of life even as they were on the same side and more or less doing the same thing. Just in their own way.

So far, it's been a quiet night. Sirens down in the streets, off in the distance. The sounds of traffic and life on the sidewalks. The sounds of a bustling city that rarely sleeps. Even during blackouts. Nate is fine with quiet and calm. He so rarely gets that in his line of work.

It's because of the quiet that he hears it, though. Something, or someone. He slowly pulls the gun out of the crack between the couch cushions and waits. Before he's getting up and turning towards the window, gun up and aimed. He almost fires. Until he sees who it is.

He'd recognize that "man in black" anywhere. Slowly, he lowers the gun. ]
