Nominally, his job is Cynric Invorian's head of security. Most of the time, that means he's somewhere within shouting distance of his employer.

Sometimes, though, he leaves for days at a time. Partially for legitimate business reasons and partially for reasons Cynric is better off not looking at too closely. But they've always had an understanding.

Tonight, he's come back without any fanfare though it's entirely possible one of the AIs gave Cynric a heads-up. Julien has just gotten very good at pretending the AIs aren't around. Which is impressive considering that Cynric is practically the godfather of that technology.

The man in question will find Julien stretched out on his couch, half undressed and dozing.

It's impossible for d3cl4n not to buzz this sort of thing into Cynric's ear, of course. For all the programs may or may not have something genuine in the depth of 'feeling,' it's clear that each of the CHIVES o/s had less of a rough rush through their systems when the CEO was properly relaxed and happy--and it was impossible not to notice the way 'relaxed' and 'happy' got forced whenever Julien had been disappeared for more than a day or two.

Tonight, Cynric's shoulders are properly relaxed again as he lets the door shut gently behind himself. His fingers reach to brush gently against the nearest panel in the wall, almost compulsive and certainly meant to stop himself from reaching too abruptly toward the man sprawled out on the couch.

"You can't be comfortable."

At the sound of Cynric's step outside the door, Julien had already come more fully awake...he just hadn't bothered to actually move yet. Cynric's comment has him cracking an eyelid open, "comfort is overrated."

But mostly he'd neither wanted to sleep alone in his own bed nor encroach on Cynric's without the man actually there. The couch was a compromise.

"Working late again?" As if working late weren't the natural state of things.

There's something comforting to having his systems alert him the other man is home. There's something much more comforting about actually hearing the other man's voice in the same space again.

"I was going to."

But the trains of thought that usually keep him up until he passes out at a screen had been slightly derailed by the entirely human element of having Julien back in the city.

Pushing himself up into a sitting position and moving to fully tug his tie off, Julien raises his eyebrows at Cynric.

"Why am I not surprised?"

Probably because he's the one that usually ends up dragging the man to bed for at least a couple of hours of actual sleep.
