2 - AU Shenanigans

[ultimately, his fate had been decided the moment that the two succeeded in destroying the Grail. one year had come to pass since the end of the war that threatened to tear the world of man and magi apart, and emerging from it all in a bid to live out a life of peace were the victors, Inaba Himeko and one legend made reality, Cloud Strife.

magic still continued to exist, but with the Grail system in its entirety dismantled, the only thing anchoring the blond to this world was his former 'Master' whom he had grown fond of. if he ever had the chance to go back and change the fate of his planet, would he? his family and friends whom he failed... could he do it without the help of a miracle?

without that miracle supplying him a foundation, he had begun to grow weaker even with Inaba's new method of contracting Cloud to her. it was a fool's version of making him her familiar, keeping him only with the knowledge of knowing that without the Holy Grail, there wasn't anything for him to go back to, even as a Heroic Spirit. a cheap imitation of the command spells that bound them to a battle beyond their comprehension. something was wrong...

sooner or later, the blond would fade away into obscurity, the only memories of him to remain in this world coming from the stories of his games, and lingering within the heart of one girl. the only possible means he could otherwise conceive gaining more prana for himself was to consume the souls of others...

[the strong smell of sesame filled the kitchen air as Cloud observed the meal being made for Inaba and himself, stirring the ingredients before adding a final splash of pepper into the mix. he'd come to get a little better at this with all the spare time he had. what did Cloud have to do anymore now that he didn't have to fight? this wasn't such a bad route either. with a small little nod and hum of satisfaction, he went to grab a bowl to begin to serve out the rice and stir fry]

Inaba! Stir fry's ready to g-

[the next sound to fill the otherwise quiet household was that of shattering glass as the empty bowl surrounded Cloud's feet, his eyes widening some as he didn't so much concern himself with the mess he made so much as looking at his own hand...]

... ... ...

[golden speckles of light rose up from his fingertips, an act that had Cloud furrow his brow, a frown marring his otherwise soft expression. he was already reserving so much of his magic already...did he need to use less now? a sigh as he closes his eyes, taking a deep breath and focusing and his hands returned to normal. kneeling down to pick up the shards of the broken bowl, he tried to ignore the inevitable as he cleaned up as best as possible before Inaba came out. at least he was concentrating well enough by this point to pick up physical things again]
