HOW TO PLAY:
1) Post a comment below, detailing your character and canon. For best results, DO NOT LEAVE THIS COMMENT BLANK; pick a role, or an AU, or write up a little on what you'd like to explore with your character.

THE ROLE.
1) Criminal. (The one who committed the act.)
2) Law enforcement. (Cop, FBI, prison guard.)
3) Witness. (What did you see?)
4) Victim. (Probably not applicable in the case of murder. … Probably.)
5) Lawyer, judge, or paralegal. (Participant in the legal system.)
6) Private security. (Unaffiliated, but with an interest in keeping your client safe. Or in getting your target caught.)
7) Other. (Let your imagination go wild.)

THE CRIME.
1) ROBBERY. The crime of stealing via force or threat or fear.
You need the money. You're desperate. You have the gun, the convenience store is right there, and everything will be better once you've finished the job.

Or maybe you've been hired. Provide a little intimidation, and someone else will take care of all your problems.

Or it's a thrill. Rolling across the country, robbing banks as you go. A Bonnie & Clyde crime spree, and it can only end one way.

2) BURGLARY. Illegal entry into a building for the purposes of committing theft.
Non-violence, for you; you're just going to break in, take this one thing. Maybe a television, to sell for the cash. Maybe some jewelry, a computer.

Or maybe you're a master thief, dangling from a wire into a museum. Sliding through the air ducts of a skyscraper in search of a particular little item.

3) GRAND THEFT AUTO. The criminal act of stealing a motor vehicle.
You know your cars. And you can steal one in under 60 seconds. Better hope you don't get tripped up with one of those newfangled security systems.

4) MURDER. The act of killing another.
He had to die. He had to, and the guilt of knowing where you buried the body, of knowing that the police are coming after you -- it's starting to wear down your sanity.

5) SERIAL MURDER. A crime involving the killing of three or more people over a period of more than a month.
You have a drive to kill. Again, and again. Nothing satisfies it, nothing stops it. Maybe you hate yourself. Maybe you hate the human scum who only exist to go under your knife.

Or maybe you're a professional hit man. You've killed dozens, you know how it goes. It's just business.

6) CONSPIRACY. An agreement between two or more persons to break the law at some time in the future.
Mafia, Yakuza, crime families who keep their operations quiet under pain of death, dishonor, betrayal of the family. You're part of one of these operations, whether as a patriarch or a peon.

7) FRAUD. Intentional deception made for personal gain.
Blackmail. Cover-ups. Insider trading -- the marks of corporate crime. Perhaps you're a CEO who thinks they can do whatever they want. Perhaps your business is on the rocks and you just need a little time to make your golden parachute before you ditch it.

Or maybe you meant to destroy it. Maybe you're a professional con man, and you're stepping away from your latest conquest with plenty of cash in hand.

8) KIDNAPPING. The false imprisonment of another person against their will.
Do you do it for the ransom? For the money? For revenge?

Or is it a hostage situation, with dozens of prisoners, for some sort of political gain?

9) TERRORISM. The systematic use of terror, especially as a means of coercion.
For a religion, for a philosophy. But -- are you a terrorist, or are you a freedom fighter? It might just be a matter of point of view.

10) WILD CARD. For any crime not mentioned above.

She kills. On a contract basis. Her talents as a hunter are put to use carefully and methodically. She's good at it, now. The first few times she killed out of panic, but now it's a routine.

Laufeyson. Crime family as old as ice, and as sharp as obsidian. He wears black gloves, dresses in a long coat, and always has a scarf. He's poised to inherit the family operation, even though he's smaller and slenderer than his brothers. He is the eldest, and the cleverest.

And here he is, alone, at an exquisite hotel bar in an exquisite city, drinking something amber-colored and exquisite clasped in his gloved hands.

And he's lonely.

II: SERIAL MURDER (a killer).

He kills because they are happy. Because happiness seems a crime, against him. It has been a long few years since he left home, a long downward spiral.

He kills with knives. Used sweetly, intimately, and slow.

He kills because he was made for it. (He was, wasn't he? Bad blood always comes out in the end.)

He kills for power.

And he kills because a part of him hopes, someday, that someone will notice.

III. KIDNAPPING (hostage negotiator).

Loki is the best they have. He no longer remembers how he fell into this life, but it is true that he can coax secrets out of the most stubborn, sweet-talk the desperate, change fortunes with just a word or two. He has the best success rate of defusing hostage situations of anyone in the city.

The few cops who work with him, for the most part, deeply dislike him. He's unpredictable. He's unstable. He sympathizes so well with the hostage-takers that they wonder for his sanity.

He likes it that way.

Killing Zucco turned out to be just so easy that he set his sights higher, on other bosses. He got other members of the circus to teach him new skills, like knife throwing, skills that he put to use in deadly ways.
He stayed with the circus, travelling around and taking out the worst of the criminals he encountered, but eventually...well eventually he just killed anyone who got in his way.

Wally cared, and he had kept a secret for most of his life. He was fast. Really fast, even at processing stuff mentally, and when he looked through the files concerning the cases, he was able to trace it back to the first victim, Anthony Zucco, and an incident at Haly's Circus. That's where he was, now that the circus was back in town, He was prowling around in the dark, trying to find clues, though from where or from whom, he didn't know. ]

Which was why she was hanging around a shitty apartment building in the middle of the night, walking down a hall and look for the door labelled 302. Natasha had ditched the cop clothes for the night, instead slipping into a black dress and heels - something more likely to tempt. She had her story down - she'd been sent here by someone she met at work, told that this apartment was for sale.

Then, she'd try and keep the conversation going from there and get inside; possibly to collect DNA.

[Jim did always trifle himself with matters of crime and law enforcement. It seemed a bit mundane compared to the laws of nature. That was, until, an associate of his (even in this universe, he doesn't have friends) was murdered in his "impenetrable" house. After three hours at the crime scene, the brilliant officers at Scotland Yard declared it a "suicide"; it took Jim ten seconds to disprove that.

He liked the thrill; the thrill of the game, the thrill of drawing out the solution of a problem. It was the type of thrill he only came across once or twice in his career as an astrophysicist professor at Durham University.

Currently, Jim is lounging on the couch of his flat at 221B Baker Street, completely motionless. He's in one of his moods again. The type of one where he's lethargic, unwilling to move, speak, or do anything. At least, it's better than his other mood; a complete mad genius, science mode, where he spends days awake blowing things up or writing up nonsensical formulas and ideas. John and Mrs. Hudson do not like that one.]

[Pirates these days might not have the same romantic aura that middle class America likes to ascribe to their 17th century forebearers, but they were still a fact of life in many parts of the world, and for one woman who had managed to carve out a place for herself where life was cheap and women all too often seen as more material for barter than human being, some of the romance of being on the high seas still held true.

Certainly she might be an amoral criminal who had no problem killing those who got in her way, or using others to her own ends, but she also did her best to avoid hurting those who truly did not deserve it, looked out for the crew under her care, and avoided trades like slavery and contract killing. Where she lived, that qualified her for sainthood. Of course, if it's your boat she's raiding, you might disagree]
