☽✩ the werewolf pack (au) romance meme ✩☾

There are many supernatural beings that congregate in groups for survival or protection or just for companionship, not unlike humans. Witches have covens. Vampires have nests. But none of those have connections that can compare to the bond of a werewolf pack.
You should know. You're part of one, either born a werewolf or turned. For humans, blood is thicker than water; for wolves, the pack is to the bone. Of course, with humans, romantic relationships can complicate closeness of other sorts. That's not the case with werewolf pairings, as they tend to grow out of natural pack dynamics and are viewed as just another facet of life. The only difference is that werewolves tend to treat relationships, even potential would-be-mates, with extreme seriousness.
After all, you'll fight for your pack, so you'll fight for your mate, won't you?
✩ how to play ✩
☾ Comment with your character, preference, and information! ☽ Reply to others. ☾ RNG. Also, please note that while the words "alpha" et al. are used, this isn't a meme for that AU.
✩ prompts ✩
☽ Born: Your parents were werewolves. Any children you have will be wolves, too. ☾ The Turning Process: Like any transformation, the after effects of the bite are painful. Luckily ☽ With Who Turned You: You're romantically or sexually linked to your "creator," so to speak, probably because you have nowhere else to go. They seem to treasure you, though, no matter how much they hide it. ☾ Alphas: Both of you are top of the pack. ☽ Alpha and Beta: It's a classic case of the leader and the second in command: a perfect team up. ☾ Omegas: You two find solace in each other even when you're ☽ Closer Than Family: The romantic and platonic lines are blurred. You honestly can't ☾ Outside Threat: Your pack and your loved one is threatened. What won't you do? ☽ Reluctant: You don't want to be with anyone, but it's expected and they're the closest in the pack to you... ☾ All I've Ever Known: All you've ever known is the werewolf existence, the pack, and them. Of course you would never want to lose that. ☽ Can't be Together: You two should not be considering a potential pairing, either due to your status difference or because your alpha has proclaimed there will be no inter-pack mingling. ☾ Everyone Else Was Taken: You had no other option; everyone else was paired. ☽ Protector: Every pack has an instinctive protector or nurturer. You've lucked out and ended up with them. ☾ A Natural Closeness: It doesn't matter to you what you're defined as. You've always been close and you'll stay that way. ☽ Affection: Werewolves show their love in different ways that humans. Nuzzling and licking aren't considered odd at all. ☾ Fall into Step: The two of you have your pack positions and proclivities and they're the same in your relationship. ☽ Reverse: The submissive in the pack becomes a dominant in the relationship and vice versa. ☾ Two-Man Pack: The rest of your pack is gone, and you two have to stick it out. ☽ Rogue: You were once a lone wolf, but a special person brought you into the fold. Understandably, you're attached to them. ☾ Kin but Not: "Family" doesn't mean exactly the same thing in werewolf society as it does in human. There are fewer taboos between "siblings." ☽ Disciplined: You're a rule breaker, and your partner has to reel you in. ☾ Living Straight: Neither of you wants to hurt humans...yet there's always that urge. ☽ Bad Duo: Killing people and raising hell are your specialties. You're a real supernatural Bonnie and Clyde. ☾ Unrequited: Even werewolves can have feelings that aren't returned. However, it's an even more fragile scenario, given that you must still be pack after this. ☽ Got Your Back: Together, you hunt and fight. Always together. ☾ Love Outside the Pack: You've found love outside the pack, which is the ultimate sin. Everyone who isn't pack should be your enemy! The other person in this thread can be a human, vampire, etc. ☽ Life Mates: Wolves mate for life. Needless to say, this is not something you should go into lightly. ☾ Heat: The obligatory smut option. ☽ Fight for the One: Someone wants to challenge you for your mate. There's no question as to whether or not you'll fight for them - but will you kill? ☾ Leave: One of you wants to leave the pack. Will the other come along, or are ties too strong? ☽ A Brutal End: The life of a werewolf, especially those who let sentiment cloud their judgement, can be painfully brief. ☾ WILDCARD |

that being said, kaoru's best as a beta, since he doesn't have the ability to call shots as much as he has the ability to follow through with everything thoroughly. i'm willing to play the reluctant alpha or an omega too, though! ]

I don't know what this is or what prompt this is.
That's the point. They thought they could tame us, but our roots are deep, deep and old. Older then those that came before us.
He got this lecture years and years ago after Garrett fled, leaving him broken and bleeding to terrorize the Wyoming wilderness before coming back and beating sense into "you young pups". He taught him how to wear SHIELD's collar and when to turn, but when Skye became a vampire at Coulson's behest and was revealed to be a vampire queen...
And then after everything else that happened.
Grant Ward likes collars less and less.
That's what his little pack is about. His little section of Hydra. No rules except his, no collars, no leashes. No silence, no loss. His family was around him now and nothing would break it.
Each one of SHIELD's goons that he kills is balm to his soul. His pack did good work tonight. Now he'll go home, drink, and sleep.
There's still blood on his face from his kills as he opens his apartment door - and holds his hands out at his sides watching them thicken into claws.]
...You might as well come out.

How exactly it had occurred wasn't recorded: an oversight the scientists bemoaned frequently. No one was sure whether he had been born a werewolf and taken from an existing pack, only to have his true nature revealed later, or if he had been turned at some point during his time with HYDRA. Whatever the case, it was both a blessing and a curse for his handlers. With the combination of the serum and his arm and his werewolf nature, he was far stronger and more capable than anything they had dreamed, but it also made him harder to keep under control when he inevitably acted out.
Pack loyalties helped to keep a damper on things, but even now they weren't absolutely certain where his true pack loyalties lay. The wipes erased his memory, and he would reach out and try to connect with the closest pack, but true pack loyalties lay deeper than the conscious mind, and if he wasn't loyal to HYDRA's pack, there wasn't much they could do except punish him when he lashed out.
And he had, today. He had completed the mission, following all set parameters, and then he had bolted like a stray dog, shifting and escaping out to the dense forest, aiming to lose his handlers and his pack in the trees.
He'd almost managed it. But the tracker in his arm and the chip in his head gave him away, and the pack cornered him in a small cave, snarling and growling and holding his ground.]

It wasn't often that Hydra had him overseeing any of the survivors, and he wasn't entirely sure what to make of it that they were doing so now. Which meant that Rumlow was being eyed with some mixture of suspicion and trepidation, as usually happened when the Soldier wasn't entirely sure how to process something.

[He shouted the rest of the team to go ahead, head out to the extraction point because it wasn't worth lingering around in hostile territory when the agents had been recovered and the insurgents were doing a fair impressed of a kicked hornet's nest at their calmest. The mission was successful as insofar as they achieved the highest objective of getting their people out before they were killed. Everything else?
Got messy only in the way rescue ops like this could. Steve only took a second to confirm that the rest of the STRIKE team was loading up into the jeeps before he turned and unhooked his shield, keeping it at the ready as he darted back towards the row of low, industrial buildings - letting go on the leash that kept his speed reasonable, breathing deep with each breath of his lungs that brought an overwhelming punch of scents: metal and gunpowder, oil, slick thick and coiling; the sweat of men, with anger and fear mixed for full ripeness. There were more familiar scents of his team, down one hallway. The opposite of the one he threw himself down to keep from getting detected as a burst of three men rushed by heading towards the entrance he slipped back in through, all swearing savagely as they tried to regroup. He wasn't primed on the local dialect but he understood enough from the tones that they were determined to give chase.
Steve kept on until he caught Rumlow's scent again and followed it, wishing for the luxury of moving down to four legs but knowing he'll likely need his hands.
He smelled Rumlow's blood before he saw the smear, the pools along with two dead hostiles left like markers. Then Rumlow around another corner where there was at least reasonable cover.
The situation was made even clearer with how pale Rumlow appears - a clammy, stubborn white. Not just injured, wounded badly enough that he was dying right now. They didn't have much time.]
Not exactly the time for a nap is it, agent?
[Asked as he dropped down onto his knees next to him. Steve noticed the missing comm from Rumlow's ear. That explained why they hadn't gotten a response while rounding back and tying up the operation.]

Of course, what no one had expected in turning him was that the lycanthropy would counteract Erskine's serum. At least while he was human, anyway. As a human he wasn't quite the scrawny, hundred-pounds-soaking-wet twig that he'd been before the serum, he still had much of the muscle tone, if not the bulk of it, and the souped-up immune system seemed to still be in working order, as he hadn't gotten sick since the change.
When he shifted, though, and always reluctantly, his wolf form was a massive black thing that often seemed to be half-shadow. Fast, strong and vicious as more than one would-be handler learned the hard way when they got too close.
The night before had been a hard one, Hydra had found, or thought they'd found, where the Widow had been hiding out and had attempted to use Steve to track her down. It had been an exercise in frustration, really, as he'd refused -insomuch as he could- to do so, until he finally couldn't anymore, and when he finally did track down where she'd been, it was just that, an empty bolthole with no sign of where she'd gone.
Though Steve didn't remember that much, which was why, post shift back, he was curled up on the cot in as small a space as he could manage, praying silently that he hadn't actually found her.

For this AU he'd probably excel in a support role, like a beta, though I have no idea what I'm doing because werewolf AU's are new to me! Still, his society shares that closeness. He'd translate well. He's a somewhat older, more experienced character. Age (outside of OOC hard-lines of 18+ characters/players) is unimportant. M/M, M/F, it's all good.
Down for all of the fluff and fluffy smut options; RNG away! Not so down for the contentious/fighting/dubcon possibilities, but teamwork aka hunting and such are fine! Gen-options are welcome alongside smut ones.))

Okay, no. That's exactly how it started. Lydia was always a really good lab partner and Joey was always excited when they got paired together on lab days, because it meant that they could get the lab done in half the class period and then they could both work on the homework they had in other classes. It didn't hurt that Lydia was one of the most popular girls in school and Joey was...invisible. Well, invisible except when she was working with Lydia. Then people noticed her and Joey liked that probably a little too much. So yes, that was how it started; Lydia had been more distracted and on her phone a lot more that lab day and Joey might have — had — been trying to see what was so freaking important. What she saw made no sense, and while she'd been trying to figure out what the hell it meant, Lydia caught her, which led to an invite to hang out at her house after school. Even though it was probably a high school equivalent to hush money, Joey couldn't say no to hanging out with Lydia Martin. So she went.
The rest, well. That's a longer story for another day.
Joey's curled in the corner of the sofa in Lydia's — their, she keeps having to remind herself — living room, fidgeting a little with nerves and trying to concentrate on Macbeth like she's supposed to be, but she can't help sensing a disturbance in the air. It hasn't been a terribly long time since the turn; she still struggles on the full moon. A lot. But her newness makes it too difficult to decipher what the scent is, but it's something. It's Lydia, but it's also something. She finally looks up and across the room at her Alpha and when she speaks, it comes out quietly and nervously, because she still is that quiet, invisible girl on the inside. At least, around Lydia, she is. )
...Lydia? Are you okay...?
