DON'T MAKE ME TURN THIS CAR AROUND! Alas, you're the parent or the disgruntled friend who has had it up to here with all the fighting in the back. 6. OMG, I WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS LANDMARK! I dunno about that, all I know about you is your name and that you like to threaten poor drivers with getting cats. I wouldn't call it a great experience so far.

[Oh, shoot. He really hopes he's joking, the rain is only getting worse so inside is even more appealing than it was before. He thinks Daichi's joking, but there are some strange people who pick up hitchhikers so his certainty is more like eighty percent than a hundred.]

Alright... [ hmmm what to ask ] So where are you from?

Around about. My dad moved around a lot, when I was growing up, so I don't really have somewhere I can say I'm from.

How about you?

[ huh, maybe thats why this guy is so okay with hitchhiking. ] Miyagi.

So... if you're not really from anywhere, how about where did you start your trip?

[molifier]

[He's always been good at getting to know people and assessing them, which was helped by all the moving.]

I spent a little time in Miyagi, it's nice. [In a quiet, small way.]

I started up in Hokkaido. Sometimes I think I only started travelling to see if I imagined things getting warmer than freezing.

Yeah, I like it.

[ it's all full of friends and home and good memories, plus it's not nearly as loud or overwhelming as the cities he's stop through so far. ]

Oh yeah? And hows that working out for you?

Pretty well, I'm not worrying about my toes falling off anymore. I think I would have been able to keep them even if I'd had to spend the night in the rain without a ride. I am a little attached to them.

[Because he has a secret no one must ever know: the only thing he likes more than bad dad jokes is baiting them out of other people.]

[Daichi's laughter is distressingly cute. And he has to force himself to look out the windscreen rather than at him so he doesn't stare.]

Just because it's easy to do something doesn't mean you should!

I'd apologize, but I'm not sorry.

[ wipes away a tear from his eye. why are terrible jokes so funny? it is a mystery. ]

I'd never accuse you of being sorry. [Suga shakes his head, laughing at his own joke shouldn't be that endearing.]

I wouldn't have worried about making a good impression if I'd known you laugh at your own jokes.

Hey, I am the one driving. [ but other than that he can't really argue with suga there. ] Besides, you can't tell me you never laugh at your own jokes?

Never!

[He pauses, with a tiny smile.] Not unless they're really great. And that one most definitely was not, even taking into account driver privileges.

Honestly, it's way easier to laugh at my own jokes when they're terrible. Like, laughing at how bad they are.

[molifier]

[Suga fights back a bigger smile.]

See, he admits they're terrible!

But you might have a point. There are limits though, and you should keep an eye out for them.

Unless you want to put a toe over the line. [Sure is bringing it back to that terrible joke.]
