Don't be. I can't believe it worked.
[He reached out and affectionately gave her am a squeeze, before focusing on outside matters.]
What was the ETA for the rest of PD to show up?
[Jim may or may not be thinking of going after the guy. Now was the best chance he was going to get.]
no subject
Should be there now by all accounts...
[She hovers near the door, trying to listen, brow furrowing.]
Don't hear much, just the usual restaurant din.
[Just then, a sharp, stabbing pain through her rotator cuff taps her on the shoulder to announce itself in a most unappealing manner, and she winces--]
FUCK. [Glancing at it, she sees blood beginning to seep through the tourniquet.]
Gonna have to get me to A&E once we get word my team are on it.

[He's clearly stuck between a rock and a hard place, trying to decide his next plan of action as he stands there fidgeting. Glancing slightly between the door and Louise, he finally nods.]
You stay here; this is the best chance we got for snagging this guy.
no subject
Don't think you'll have much trouble in that regard.
[Referring to herself, of course, in being a compliant 'patient' once he returned.]

[Or less, preferably. Standing against the wall, gun remaining in hand and glancing out the window, he's able to see it looks like it's turned into a hostage situation. The sniper was standing in the front, gun aimed at the few remaining workers and customers in the restaurant, while looking outside. Jim certainly hoped that meant the team was there, but he couldn't see that far out.
With an inhale, he nods and creeks the door open, staying low to the ground when he sneaks out. He's trying to remain unnoticed as he creeps closer to the lobby. So far the sniper hasn't spotted him, but the hostages have. Raising a finger to his mouth to keep them quiet, he's getting himself lined up to shoot the guy and finally does so, connecting with his shoulder to the arm holding the trigger for the gun. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth as payback for injuring Louise.
When the guy reacts, Jim rises to his feet to shoot him in the thigh and narrowly misses getting shot himself by the sniper's accomplice and manages to get him in the gut.]
Lose the guns and get down!
[He at least manages to kick the gun away from the closer accomplice and kept his own aimed at the sniper.]

Wiles would have to try a little harder next time--that is, if he wasn't caught by then. The young, posh, self-fashioned drug lord had built an army, it seemed, but it remained to see if the handsome Scot would get sloppy.
For Louise's part, she'd propped herself up against the other side of the door, away from the window, listening to all of it unfold, and at first, the gun shots jolted at her in terror, especially as Jim didn't speak up straightaway after he'd fired.]
no subject
We're safe; it's over.
[It was loud in the lobby as the large squad swarmed in, double checking everything and even barging past Jim in the manager's office.]
It's clear. It's only us.
[He sighs and offers Louise a smile before turning the lights on and helping her slip her jacket over her shoulders to walk her out.]
C'mon, let's get you to the medics.
no subject
Had I known you'd be this swift, I'd not have worried; you didn't even need me backing you up.
[She scowls slightly, irritated that her own prowess had been put out to pasture-] Just a right third bloody wheel I was, then..
[As they walk out the door, Louise's DCI looks up from his clipboard and gives them both a nod.]
...And make sure she STAYS at A&E, this time, would you, Gordon?
[She rolls her eyes and her upper lip curls only slightly as she allows Jim to keep walking her along.]
no subject
What's the story of you not staying in the A&E?
[He had a few of those stories himself, which made the smile on his face grow more in amusement of the situation.]
no subject
Let's just say there've been more than a couple of times I've refused to go when he thought I should've. ['He' meaning DCI Lestrade, that is. She continues, muttering the words as if they're rhetorical, or to herself.]
Load of bollocks, really. Anyone could have seen that I was fine. Would've been a waste of emergency's time.
no subject
Have you always been so stubborn? It's nice to have a coworker show concern.
[He may or may not be trying to egg her on, given he's been in similar circumstances quite a few times, more than he cared to admit.]
no subject
[She means it in a flippant, not serious way. The subtle lift of her chin as she says it should mark it permanently.]
Tell me about yourself.
no subject
What do you want to know? Been a Homicide Detective for the GCPD for a while now. Grew up there and lived most of my life there.
...Some might say I'm married to the job.
[He was holding back a load of information, unsure why he was so guarded.]
no subject
No hobbies? Favourite music...food...dislikes, even?
[She looks at him gamely, a sarky expression crossing her features.]
Surely I've not been tasked with having to deal with the most dreadfully boring detective the city of Gotham has to offer?
[The small smile that tugs at her lips matches the vaguest twinkle in her eyes.]
no subject
London may be one of the largest cities in the world, but the crime is nothing compared to Gotham. Really, some seriously fucked up shit there. Hence why I had to come here in the first place, though I should've known I'd be tracked; it isn't the first time.
[He offers her a smile, just in time for the doctor to return to inform Louise she needed to go to surgery to fix some torn ligaments and to obtain the bullet, which was still embedded in her shoulder. Jim had his suspicions of such, since he didn't see an exit wound.
When the Doctor steps off to make arrangements, Jim placed a hand to hers.]
You've made it this far, I'm sure things will go fine.
no subject
Crime here is every bit a fucked up as they come, Gordon, I can assure you, and I'm going to be a right useless cow until this atrocity heals up--
[Her words were becoming a bit slurred, but the moment his hand was atop hers, the syllables froze at the contact. The other charge nurse lifted the curtain to begin to wheel her out, but before she could, Louise slowly turned her hand over so that their palms were touching for several brief moments, the warmth of the heat between their two hands both comforting and exciting her all at once. But then, the movement of the gurney jolted them apart, and she waved half-heartedly as she was wheeled back into the operating theatre.]

Seeing that Louise seemed to be still under all the medicine, Jim settled himself in the chair next to the bed, arms crossed under his chest and was fast asleep despite being uncomfortable. She had made it through fine, and with an officer standing guard on the floor, he finally could relax.]
Hiya, sweetie <3
JIM.
Her lips twitched in the vaguest of smiles as she spoke, her voice still thick and hoarse from the pain medication she was given.]
Surely you can't be comfortable sitting like that....'M surprised you're even here. Thought you'd've gone home ages ago...
Hii~
You're awake?
[He searches for a clock to see it was nearly 5 in the morning.]
How are you feeling?
[Probably better than him given he wasn't comfortable at all, making a motion to stand up and stretch his legs. He hadn't changed out of his clothes from the previous day, either, making it evident he hadn't seen his hotel room in some time.]
<3~
'T'would appear that way, innit...?
[The vaguest of twinges caught her by surprise as Louise attempted, rather clumsily it might be added, to sit up straighter in the bed, and she slumped back down in a heap.]
Sod it.
[Reaching for the small cup of water on the side table, she shakily took a sip, parched as she was, and held the cup in her lap as she spoke.]
You look dreadful.
[The words, even as she said them, were tinged in a sly, deadpan sort of humour--enough for Jim to know that's not how she truly perceived him at the moment.]
no subject
[He was certainly glad she wasn't sensitive, given the clip rolled off his tongue before he could catch himself. He clearly had gotten too used to Harvey being around.]
Take it easy, partner, you're not going to be using that arm for a while.
no subject
[She tried to chuckle, appreciating his quick wit and sarky humour, but all that came out was a hacking cough. Embarrassing.]
...And don't bleeding remind me.
[If there was anything Louise hated more, it was feeling helpless and not in control of her surroundings....No. Scratch that. What was worse? Having to drag about, useless in her work, being something of an albatross round the necks of her colleagues.]
Suppose you'll be getting off then, won't you? Head back to the States? Can't say 'm not surprised something of this utterly delightful ilk has happened whilst you've been more or less under my watch.
no subject
[If it weren't for paperwork, his job would be a lot easier. That alone will take a couple days, and the processing, questioning, and coordinating bringing the goon back to Gotham. Jim figured he'd be around for at least another week.]
I haven't notified my own people yet.
[He had fallen asleep faster than he intended.]
no subject
[Louise rolled her head back to the center of the pillow, letting her eyes cast towards the ceiling.]
You'll notify them today, yeah? Let them know your temp partner's been sent to hospital?
[There was a vaguely defiant grin which tugged at one corner of her mouth as she said it.]
no subject
[Jim was suppose to check back in daily, which he had been failing on and already been getting threatening e-mails and messages on the hotel message inbox.]
Don't worry about them; that's my job.
[He gave her a smirk in return, reassuring her.]
You should get some rest, the boys out here aren't going to let anything happen to you.
