PROMPTS
- 1. the proposal: how will you pop the question? is it something you've been rehearsing for weeks, or something unexpectedly blurted out during an argument or drunken spur of the moment? something simple or something grand? however you do it, let's hope they say yes!
- 2. the planning: whether it's something you've been dreaming of forever or something you never even considered before, it's time to get all those little details ironed out. venues and flowers and seating charts, oh my!
- 3. bride/groomzilla: your soon-to-be spouse isn't normally like this, you swear... it's just all the stress getting to them, they won't stay like this! ...hopefully.
- 4. let's elope: disapproving family or friends? not a problem if you run off to vegas, or where-the-heck-ever else.
- 5. destination wedding: aruba, jamaica...♪ make it a wedding no one will ever forget by having it somewhere beautiful and exotic! or maybe you're getting hitched away from home because it isn't yet legal where you live.
- 6. shotgun wedding: no long engagement for you. gotta make it quick while your dress still fits over that baby bump!
- 7. arranged: maybe you've known them since childhood, or maybe you're just meeting them for the first time - either way, your spouse has been chosen for you and now you're tying that knot.
- 8. bridal shower/bachelor party: strippers? strippers.
- 9. cold feet: days, hours, mere minutes before the ceremony, your mind is racing with "what if's" and you're having second thoughts. let's hope someone can find you some warmer socks because...
- 10. today's the day! : time to walk, dance, skip, or fly down the aisle!
- 11. wedding disasters: what happened to your veil?! who let your crazy ex inside the church?! it's raining on your outdoor setup and your minister is sneezing on everyone! luckily your videographer never showed up, so there'll be no evidence.
- 12. jilted: you've been left at the altar...or you're the one doing the leaving.
- 13. traditions: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. jumping the broom, breaking the glass. a white wedding dress, or red. throwing rice, peas, or red beads. every culture has its own traditions!
- 14. always a bridesmaid: you know the cliché. always in attendance, always there for their friends, but never having that special day of their own. but maybe their luck will change! after all, there's always a chance they'll...
- 15. catch the bouquet! : but be careful out there.
- 16. sunrise, sunset: you're the father of the bride, or mother of the groom, or vice versa. or anyone else who raised the person getting married today. and you're asking yourself, "is this the little girl I carried? is this the little boy at play?"
- 17. the reception: band or dj? the chicken or the salmon? are the guests getting happy and wasted or bored and wasted? is the happy couple in their own little bubble or already forgetting what marital bliss feels like?
- 18. wedding crashers: whether or not you're following the specific example set by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, you're getting in on that free food, booze, and dancing.
- 19. the wedding night: where would this meme be without the most obvious smut option?

being close to haru makes makoto want to say something. to confess, to ask if he's really okay with this, to protest... anything to show his disapproval of what they've been heading toward. now that the day is upon them, though, he's set his concerns on making it through the day without ruining this for the people involved.
makoto glances up at the sound of his name, his fingers come to a stop on haru's tie as he meets his eyes. he sees that look, he knows that look, and it makes his chest tighten a little to know that he's making haru worry. ]
You're about to get married. You shouldn't look like that.
[ he offers a soft smile as he gently straightens haru's tie, hands dropping back to his sides once he does. ]
What is it?
no subject
things have been lonely. haru ins't exactly sure how to express it, or if he could, but without makoto, there's something missing. he's felt that more and more for the past year. everyone keeps telling him this is his big day, but right now there's nothing else he can focus on but makoto. haru doesn't really care one way or another if there's a girl waiting to marry him somewhere in this building.
haru's expression is unchanging. he's always been a little stubborn, after all, and when it comes to matters involving makoto, haru can get serious. ]
What happened?
[ and why are you pretending i haven't noticed? maybe it's too late to ask now, but when else has he been able to get makoto alone? ]
no subject
You'll have someone else after this. [ the words spill out without any real thought, a mishmash of an excuse and what he really wants to say. ] You'll be living together, you'll spend most of your time together. After this, I won't be able to spend as much time with you. I just... I thought it would be better if we slowly spent less time together.
[ there are so many things he could add on, but he goes quiet instead, convincing himself once more that there's no point in saying anything about how he feels so late in the game.
and then he hears a knock on the door of the room they're in, a signal that haru needs to head to the alter. makoto's breath catches in his throat in a painful way as he looks at his best friend. ]
I should get to my seat.
no subject
maybe he wants to be angry, but he can't be. haru only feels a growing sense of desperation. it feels like he's going to lose makoto any moment now, that this marriage is going to be the end of his best friend and him. haru doesn't want that. it was hard enough dealing with the idea that makoto was moving to tokyo for university before they decided to go together.
he completely ignores the knock, it doesn't matter right now. they can wait. ]
No-- wait. [ eyebrows knitting together, haru reaches out for him, makoto further away since taking a step back, but his hand stops short. what does he do to fix this? he speaks his name with almost a sense of urgency. ] Makoto.
[ what aren't you telling me? ]
no subject
You need to go. [ he reaches for haru's hand and wraps his fingers around his wrist, giving him a small pull in the direction of the door. if they stick around in here too much longer, makoto knows he'll say something he'll end up regretting. ] This can't start without you.
[ then he lets go of haru to move to the door, hand falling to the handle as he looks back at him once more. makoto wants to promise that they'll talk later and that he'll explain himself then, but he won't. even if it's just a case of his own unrequited feelings, he doesn't want to saddle haru with the knowledge before or after his wedding. ]
Ready?
no subject
coming to his senses, he allows his hand to drop to his side when makoto lets go, but then takes another step back and stands up straight. he intends to stand his ground, wedding be damned. something is still wrong, something is wrong with them, and that's more important than everyone and everything in this wedding put together. it might be selfish, but that's how he feels. he'll fight makoto on it if he has to. ]
Then it won't start. [ he challenges makoto with his eyes, deep blue and piercing. ] I'm not going. [ he can't drop this. why can't he drop it? haru's hands curl into loose fists. he doesn't know, he doesn't understand all of it himself, but this is something he can't let go, and he can't forget what makoto's said to him already. ]
no subject
You can't just not go. [ makoto almost sounds desperate, like he's reaching the end of his rope. he is, in a sense, and he doesn't know how much longer he can remain in front of haru without admitting the truth. it's one thing to keep things to himself around anyone else, but keeping something from haru is both incredibly hard and something he hates doing.
with a quiet sigh, he smooths his hands down from haru's shoulders as if there's any part of his jacket out of place. then he resorts to something he's been trying to avoid: the empty promise of continuing this same line of conversation later on. ] We can talk once this is all done, can't we?
no subject
when he opens his eyes again and then opens his mouth to speak, instead of stubborn or mad, he just sounds wary, almost hurt. he doesn't want to be. this is his best friend. this is someone he'd choose over water, if he had to make that choice. heaven forbid he ever does. ]
... How do I know you'll still talk to me later? [ makoto has hardly talked to him all this time, so why would he later? haru looks down and away for a moment. he won't, will he? that's what that knot in his stomach is telling him. so, he'll just have to try one more time, he'll meet makoto's eyes once more before he runs out of ideas. he lowers his guard, lets his shoulders droop, and when he speaks makoto's name, it's almost a plea. ] Makoto...
[ please. please tell me. ]
no subject
there's another knock at the door, but makoto ignores it this time as well. he's busy meeting haru's eyes, watching the way his shoulders slump as if this is his last ditch attempt to fix things before they both leave the room and things change for good. he wants to resist, wants to keep things on track to avoid wrecking anything, but the sound of his name does him in. ]
I love you. [ makoto can feel the knot in his throat as he mumbles the confession, eyebrows furrowing as he lowers his eyes to stare somewhere off to the left of haru. ] I couldn't figure out how to tell you then you ended up engaged and I thought it would be selfish to tell you after hearing that. That's why I've been spending less time with you. I didn't want to tell you the truth.
no subject
I--
[ how little time there actually is left is made evident by one more knock at the door, and this time around, it opens. whoever is there is more than ready to take haru away and out of this room to start the ceremony. haru is left still staring open-mouted at makoto. his heart aches. the men at the door inform him that the ceremony is about to begin, but he can't stop looking at makoto. ]
... I'll stop the wedding. [ he says it matter of fact, like stopping a wedding isn't a big deal at all, like he even has the power to, and honestly haru doesn't care if it is or if he does. yeah, he wen't along with it, but if makoto loves him, then things are a lot different. he doesn't care that everyone or anyone outside the door has probably heard him, either. ]
no subject
when haru opens his mouth to speak, makoto momentarily feels hopeful. then the door opens and he glances over his shoulder, the lump in his throat getting worse for a split second. until he hears haru's solution and wide eyes return to him. ]
But-- [ makoto doesn't know what to say to that and there's no chance to come up with anything. whether or not they've heard what haru said, a couple of men enter the room to usher the two of them out of it so they can begin the ceremony. makoto casts a look at haru as he's nudged toward the door, not sure how he's going to stop this or even why he plans to since they've missed the chance to talk about it beyond that.
but he moves when he's pushed, finding himself shuffled off in the direction of the seating where he settles into a spot near the rest of their friends, still looking around as if haru may not even make an appearance now that he's decided to go against this. ]
no subject
unfortunately for him, all things go according to plan-- their parents plans, of course-- all up until it comes to their vows. do you, haruka nanase, take this woman to to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part? haru finds makoto in the audience again and takes a good, long look at him before he gives the priest his answer, brow creased in worry. no. ]
... I can't.
[ there are some gasps throughout the gathered audience, the priest looks a little baffled and the bride doesn't look too happy, but that's haru's answer. it's not changing. he can't bring himself to answer any other way, now. ]
no subject
a nudge against his side is the only thing that manages to grab his attention away from the alter and it's only long enough to reassure rin, who he's currently sitting next to, that things are fine. he gets a skeptical look in return, but his gaze is drawn back to haru the moment he hears the reading of the vows begin, breath catching in his throat when the priest looks over at haru and...
the gasps aren't much of a surprise. neither is the soft snort that sounds beside him, proof that rin's doubted this from the very beginning.
the parents move forward, of course, to see what the problem is. makoto rises from his seat as well, but he doesn't move from his position, choosing to look at haru as sections of the people gathered begin to murmur and whisper amongst themselves about the turn of events.
all he can do is wait until haru's free to move away from the alter. ]
no subject
after the announcement is made that the wedding will be back on in just a little bit, haru begins making his way down the aisle. he pauses briefly and glances at makoto, holding his gaze for a few moments before he continues and leaves through the chapel doors. no one will think any of it (except maybe their friends) if makoto goes out to talk with him. they're best friends, after all, and who better to confide in at a time like this?
it's good to be outside. the air smells somewhat like rain, but haru likes that, too. he walks a little ways away and around the corner, away from the doors. he hopes makoto can find him here. makoto... it's back to that again. i love you. haru feels his heart skip a beat and, now that he has more time to process it, he feels his face heat up, too. makoto loves him. haru has so many questions that he wants to ask makoto, himself. when? for how long? was he going to try and keep it secret forever, and why would he do that to himself? for haru? and most importantly, a question haru can only ask himself: does he love makoto, too?
his heart thuds heavy in his chest and haru bows his head, hand curling tight into his shirt as if to grip his heart. this is something he has to decide, and now. ]
no subject
exiting the building is a relief, though makoto imagines it's an even greater one for haru. he knows he should be thankful for the pressing that led to his telling the truth, but there's a sense of guilt over saddling haru with his feelings at the last possible moment. it's something that will pass, makoto's sure, but he's sure he's pushed an immense amount of stress on top of haru with his sudden decision to get out of the wedding.
haru isn't immediately in sight, but makoto has the sense to know he hasn't run off. he moves toward the side of the building, peeking around the corner to find haru there. ]
Hey. [ a soft, easy greeting as makoto joins him, as if he's found haru avoiding crowds on the roof during lunch rather than momentarily escaping his own wedding. he comes to a stop close in front of haru, eyes falling to the hand curled into his shirt. slowly, makoto lifts a hand to cover haru's, gently aiming to pull it away from his shirt. ]
I'm sorry. I should've told you sooner.
[ or completely kept it to himself, but he knows haru won't like hearing that. ]
no subject
makoto's hand on his, he slowly uncurls his fingers from the fabric of his shirt, hesitating before letting it drop to his side. having makoto so close does nothing to help the way his heart is racing, but haru makes no attempt to distance himself from him. brow creasing slightly, haru studies makoto's face. he wishes makoto wouldn't apologize. haru doesn't want him to. it would have been good to know sooner, but it doesn't change anything aside from the fact that he just would have tried to back out of the wedding earlier. makoto is still at the top of his list; the wedding doesn't even come close. it was never that important, but now it's even less so.
they can't stand in silence forever, not when time is ticking away once again, and haru figures he better start talking, difficult as some of the things he wants to know and say may be. it takes him a moment, haru stuck thinking on things of the past, signs he might have missed and things he's felt for makoto over the years. he'll start with what he wants to know most, how long makoto has been keeping this hidden away. ]
How long...?
[ how long have you felt like this? ]
no subject
he knows he's possibly playing a bigger part in that than the wedding itself and he wants to tell haru that they can talk later. they'll have all the time in the world once he's finished freeing himself from the ceremony he's expected to return to, so they can put it off. haru doesn't have to come up with any reply or answer for the confession right now.
makoto plans to voice that, but he's met with a question that leaves him quiet instead. how long? it's a good question and he doesn't even know if he can answer it properly. even so, he tries anyway, opening his mouth then closing it once then twice before he finally speaks. ]
I don't know. [ the truth first, then he can elaborate. ] I can't tell you how long ago the feelings started, but I know when I realized how I felt. When we argued at the festival, when I tried to convince you to make a choice and I told you I was going to Tokyo... I realized how I felt right after that.
It was probably during our second year of high school. I think that's when my feelings changed and I didn't realize it because I've always loved you in some way. But I guess it was that year that I started to feel like I didn't want to lose you.
no subject
i didn't want to lose you. chest tightening, haru feels his heart skip another beat. makoto didn't want to lose him, and yet, if he got married... what makoto told him back inside the chapel, about having someone else, about spending less time together-- makoto's fear was coming true. it was coming true and makoto wasn't going to tell him how he felt until haru had pushed it out of him. guilt starts to overtake him, too, considering that he didn't even notice, didn't even make the slightest connection. he's supposed to be makoto's best friend, and yet... ]
You were never going to tell me...
[ that much, he's sure of. with how hard he had to pry, makoto probably intended to keep it a secret for the rest of his life. haru doesn't like the thought of that and it shows in his expression, lips curved into a small frown. ]
no subject
somewhere along the way, he's accepted that he'll have to lose haru in some way and that's how they've ended up in this position. every option he's been faced with has been selfish in some way. keeping his feelings to himself is selfish because haru deserves to know. distancing himself from haru is selfish because he deserves an explanation. confession to haru is selfish because it leads to this, to haru stressed and likely looking for an answer to give. in the end, he's managed to check every box when it could've been avoided by just admitting his feelings much earlier. ]
No, I wasn't.
[ makoto's guilt mounts at the sight of that frown. ]
I never wanted to put you in a position where you felt like you owed me an answer to something like that.
no subject
besides, haru wants something else, too. he doesn't want makoto to go away. he doesn't want to spend less time with him anymore, or ever. he doesn't want to get married to some girl he hardly knows. the more makoto goes on, the more he's sure of it, that he must love makoto, too, and that what he wants is him. he didn't know it before, but he knows it now. all that loneliness, feeling like something was missing, nights where he couldn't fall asleep and when sleep finally came, his dreams only consisted of him-- haru didn't know how to interpret it, but this has helped. as stressful as it might be, it's opened his eyes.
still, he doesn't know how to convey it. soon someone will come looking for them, he's positive of it, but for right now it's still just the two of them. ] Owe you? [ haru takes a daring step forward, tilting his chin up to look straight at makoto, eyes narrowed. ] You're always doing things for me. You need to take what you want every once in a while.
no subject
what he's told gets a small laugh from makoto as he stares back at haru. he lifts a hand like he intends to let it rest against haru's cheek, fingertips brushing against it, but he loses the courage for it before he can do more than that and he lets his hand fall to rest on haru's shoulder instead. ]
How am I supposed to take what I want in a situation like this, Haru? [ you're what i want is the meaning beneath that, which he thinks is obvious. but taking haru isn't an option. it's something that he needs to decide on himself, something that he needs to work out without makoto beside him to influence his response, should he decide to give one at all. ] I wouldn't try to force you to give me a reply no matter what.
[ around the corner, the chapel doors open and a female voice calls haru's name. makoto glances over his shoulder then looks back to haru, giving his actions only a moment's thought before he grabs hold of one of his best friend's hands to quickly pull him off in the opposite direction, toward the back of the chapel. ]
no subject
he understands the meaning behind makoto's words, but he doesn't know what to say in return. you're not forcing me, is what he wants to say. i want to answer. but haru's mouth only opens enough to make a small, quiet strained noise before he gives up. how does he convince makoto it's okay? someone wanting him is a foreign idea to him, he's never had anyone tell him they love him that didn't extend further than as family or friends.
glancing toward the direction of the voice that calls out for him, haru frowns again. he doesn't really want to go back. he hasn't come up with an idea yet. before he can say or do anything more, makoto's hand is in his and he's following him without resistance. he has no idea what makoto is planning on doing, taking him back here, but he trusts makoto.
at the back of the chapel, he looks at him, eyes questioning. he doesn't let go of makoto's hand, not yet, whether he's forgotten or just doesn't want to or a little of both. ]
Why are we back here?
[ the obvious answer would probably be because makoto knows haru wants to end this, that he isn't ready to go back. but still, does he have a plan? ]
no subject
To give you more time. [ makoto glances down at their hands and curls his fingers around haru's to give him a small squeeze, a reassurance that he's not going anywhere this time. ]
We can finish talking once we're home again, in private. I promise. But you need to figure out what you're going to say to get out of this first.
[ because no amount of conversation about the two of them and how they feel is going to matter if haru can't find something to say to free himself from the ceremony he's expected to rejoin. even if nothing comes from his confession and they just remain friends, makoto can't leave him to get married now that he's said he doesn't plan to go through with it.
but his thoughts are churning in a way that doesn't lend to offering any good suggestions for escaping it. makoto doesn't have experience with this kind of thing. it's not as if he's attended many weddings, much less seen people try to get out of them once they've reached the alter. ]
no subject
as for getting out of the wedding, would it be as simple as telling the truth? now that makoto has told him how he feels, and now that haru is discovering how he feels, too, what all of this over the years has meant, that's what it comes down to. but haru doesn't know if they'll buy it. that's all he can come up with, though, that and the plain, straight up refusal to go through with this wedding.
looking back up at makoto, haru studies his face, like he hopes to somehow find what to say that way. separating himself any further from makoto isn't an option. the last year has confirmed how much he doesn't like that. maybe the truth is all he has. ]
... I know what I'll tell them.
[ haru hears his name again, and looking in the direction it's coming from, haru notices it sounds closer to them. at least he had a minute or two more to think about this, thanks to makoto. again, haru's eyes fall on him, lips slightly parted like he means to say something else, but can't find the words. ]
you didn't write too much! ;;
makoto glances over haru's face in return, wondering how it's going to happen, how he'll get himself out of this. he finds himself wondering what he'd do in haru's shoes and realizing he honestly can't say when he feels the way he does.
the statement haru makes gets a blink from makoto, a look of surprise at how seemingly easy it is for haru to decide what he'll say with the time away from everyone else. he considers asking, but stops himself, simply nodding instead. ]
Alright.
[ he, too, glances off in the direction the voice is coming from, knowing it won't be much longer before they're found. when he gaze returns to haru, he notes the way he looks and that nothing is being said, giving him a small smile after a moment. ]
You should go say what you need to say, Haru. [ there's another squeeze to haru's hand and, in a bold moment, makoto pulls their joined hands up long enough to brush his lips against haru's knuckles. then he lets go, nodding off in the direction of the side of the building as an urge for haru to get things over with so it's no longer weighing on him. ]
ahh okay ;; also sorry if i rushed haru's decision i get... excited sometimes...
there wasn't any rushing. and excitement is good! you never have to apologize for it. <3
okay ;_; you're too nice <3
